Yesterday i sadly read, that Morris Pert - the drummer in the blue shirt - passed away in April 2010 at the age of 63!! So R.I.P Morris! Your music and performances will outlive!
Emotion pur. Hat noch jemand Erinnerungen an seine Konzerte?
Many thanks for this lot. (I mean ALL of it!) Until I discovered youtube, I believed that Mike Oldfield was simply a brilliant and talented musician who spent his life mixing stuff in a recording studio. (Sorry, Mike!) I never believed anybody could do this stuff live - that's remarkable - and not a score in sight!
I thought it was Kenny Everett>> LOL Brilliant all three parts, I'm a great fan of Mike Oldfield since 80's Listened to his music while i was down the Falklands in 83 & 85. Class Pure Class Music better that the rubbish out now. If you like this then you will ilke Jean Michel Jarre as well. Trev
@genesisrock43 yes, and although i saw the film in the eighties, i got the music record only a few years ago. He/she did not only compose the theme, but a wonderful record for the movie, with more/other tracks than used on the movie. So there are two editions: the soundtrack with tracks you hear in the movie, and the more interesting Clockwork-Orange record with more tracks and a booklet with interview.
Morris Pert is still around and he haven't changed that much, still got the side-burns, but has turned grey, though. Anyway, this was a great performance!!!!
i, in my excess of time on my hands, wanna start a core spirituality based on the KEYBOARDIST'S SHIRT that embraces all creeds, denominations and shoe sizes... well.... i can lucid dream can't i???
Had this version on DVD since it came out. The video is not in sync with the music and I think this version, though great with the Vocoder and drum machine, is not as one the ball as the Knebworth 1980 one. Pert, though a gifted percussionist, really seems to be hitting wildly and Mike Frye is almost inaudible. The point of Ommadawn is the *rhythmic* ending with a continuous beat. That is given here only by the drum machine and Pert is not playing along but simply being avant garde. Of course, Oldfield is brilliant here, no surprise, but still the drums are badly miked (applies to the whole concert) and the percussionists not playing the rhythm is a sadness.
i loved listening to Mike Oldfield and JMJarre in the 80s, but it's Mike Oldfield i still hear, more and more again. Jarre is so boring against that. i think the mathematic spheres s of Jarres sounds were fascinating then (if i had heard of wendy carlos, i had prefered his music). My feelings, my opinion.
zhaleh sez that morris' sideburns could/should cause some kinda matter/antimatter detonation cuz they are SO NOT OF THE 80s and these hairy exttrustions SUPPOSEDLY existed in the aforementioned decade...so there
Oldfield is The Master! Best guitarist, best tone! Nobody sounds like Mike!

Brilliant! I saw this tour in the US. Mike only played 3 cities in the US. Saw him in Phialdelphia. That should be Pierre Morlen on percussion as well
On the album this part was performed (if I recall correctly) by African drummers from Jabula. Awesomew!
No digital sound, super atmospher! Haré Krišna!

Anyone else thinks the drummer was an inspiration for creating the Muppets' Animal?

A gentleman is not a gentleman without his side-whiskers, as the old adage goes ;)
There's a little piece of Incantations right at the end. Cool!

Mike would be nothing without rhythm! ;-)

I'm not a fan of drum solos, but it's worth sitting through for the guitar bit at the end (4:20+).
Maggie Reilly
