High Barbaree (1947) Tornado Scene
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 лип 2024
- Tornado scene from the 1947 film, High Barbaree, starring Van Johnson and June Allyson. As with Cabin in the Sky the tornado footage was recycled from The Wizard of Oz. Prop recycling is a common practice in Hollywood, even today.
FUN FACT: Van Johnson (star of High Barbaree) worked with Judy Garland (who was in The Wizard of Oz, film from which the tornado footage was recycled from) in the 1949 musical, In the Good Old Summertime.
June Allyson (star of High Barbaree) was originally cast in the lead of the 1950 musical, Royal Wedding. But due to her pregnancy at the time she was forced to resign from production and Judy Garland (who was in The Wizard of Oz, film from which the tornado footage was recycled from) replaced Allyson. But after not showing up to set Garland was replaced by Jane Powell.
I know it’s not the same universe but the familiar look of the tornado always gets me thinking “Meanwhile several miles away”

"Hey Look"
"I never saw anything like This before"
"It's A Tornado"
**Crash**
Typical Brit visiting America.
“My word, a dust devil” 🌪️ 🧐
That tornado, backdrop and sound effects were all from The Wizard of Oz!
+Jonathon Morris thats exactly what it says in the description. The tornado was also used in Cabin in the Sky, check out the video its on my channel

Jonathon Morris-The tornado scene was also used in "Cabin In The Sky"-(1943)
@@hempelchamp The guy literally stated that it was also in that film. Bro!
Me agin
Yep
Boy this Tornado must have some anger issues to be in 3 different films, destroying everything in its path. LOL
Ok I know it's in the wizard of oz and this movie what's the third one
@@charlieclark9552 I think it’s Cabin in the Sky.
The making of a tornado back in 1939 was very interesting problem for a special effect but buddy Gillespie and his special effects crew did great job on building a tornado funnel cloud made out of Muslim paper.
He’s a highly gifted actor for appearing in three movies. I hope they paid Mr. Tornado some epic royalties for his appearance and covered his anger management sessions.
@@ronaldalexanderrolleston4361 You didn’t happen to mean Muslin by any chance?
Most of these old movies include the tornado from The Wizard Of Oz (1939) probably because of how extraordinary it is.
The tornado background film was very well made
It's called Media recycling; they took the footage from another movie or recording, projected it, and went on from there. That's how it was done back then.
@@CGHawkatoo yea i was like 11 when i made this comment LMAO
The actor that plays the tornado really gets around
0:10 he is completely oblivious to the tornado until 0:33
Right? "Weather schmeather. LET'S GET STINKO!"
This tornado got around more than the Kardashian and Taylor Swift
Yeah but nothing leaves a bigger damage path than the Kardashians
0:04 me acting like I don’t see the trouble behind me
All of the two bridges in Iowa were washed out by this tornado. Damn
*laff*
I think in high barbarians and cabin in the sky and The wizard of Oz all the tornado scenes take place at the same time
When movies from the 1930s to 1950s has better looking tornadoes then many of the tornado movies of today.
“The Wizard of Oz”, “Cabin In The Sky” and “High Barbaree” were all from MGM. That’s why they share the same 🌪 footage.
That’s true it was created by buddy Gillespie the same man who made special effects for classic movies in Hollywood.
Recycled film would be OK, if it wasn't such iconic footage. I'm sure they use stock footage all the time.
0:04 0:05 0:10 0:14 Continuing his life like any other Day being completely unaware that there is a tornado headed in there direction 0:33 0:34 it’s too late to take cover
It seems that more people than Dorothy had the chance to get to OZ I mean it’s the same twister so maybe it will bring them to the same place
0:37 And that, boys and girls and everything in between, is why you don't stand near a window when there's a tornado around.
Just to remind everyone ... High Barbaree is a great movie. HIGH ... BARBAREE.
This has to be the same tornado that hit Dorothy‘s house, then hit in that other movie, and then this movie, so all three of those movies must be connected
The tornado sequence and sound effects all used from the wizard of oz and also Cabin in the Sky!
Hey I never sawn like this before it's a tornado
0:30 did they just reuse the wizard of oz tornado for this movie scene?
Yes
That guy making the drinks gets hit in head with that thing, and dreams he is whisked away to BOSTON ,and meets up with WOODY,CARLA,SAM,FEAISER, REBECCA,LILITH
Even the 🌪 tornado howling sound effect also from Cabin in the Sky and especially The Wizard of Oz
The tornado background was from the wizard of oz
Yeah it is also Cabin in the Sky
+klassicalmuzik sure was. I actually own Cabin in the Sky on DVD. I have to say though that neither of the movies used it to as great of an advantage as in Oz. Still pretty cool to see though.
Jonathon Morris yes I agree. I think they tried to be careful with re using the tornado just in case audiences would recognize the Tornado from Oz. So they where probably walking on egg shells with the recycling of the tornado.
Bro the tornado and the tornado sounds were from the wizard of oz
Whoa!
That guy who was passing the drinks was from tower of terror tv
What no, 'oz' reference? Unusual for this thread.
It sounded pretty similar to the wizard of oz tornado
It was the exact recycled footage of the tornado from the wizard of oz
0:03 Isn’t that the tornado from the wizard of oz?
Yes It Is
that looks like the WoZ tornado
They used the same tornado footage for this movie as they did for the wizard of oz
I wonder if that was an ef 3 twister
Hurry up John yes sir Thursday moon 🌝 weather hey John it’s a tornado 🌪
Who’s that walking through the camera at 0:41?
0:04 0:05 You really should of looked out your window before it was too late
tornado
0:36 "It's a tornado!"
Yeah, no shit Sherlock. (I know this is from a bygone era, but still...)
It’s a tornado he still awake closet
Is that the same 🌪️ from the wizard of oz or is it a different one
What did they do to add the tornado footage to the other side of the window? I am sure they did not have techniques for special effects...
The tornado was constructed on a sound stage, so all I assume was done, was simply construct the interior set on top of the stage while the tornado on the sound stage was activated before filming from the interior set.
They footage of the tornado was projected on a rear projection screen.
Wow
To bad that think that blew into ,,thru the window didn't knock him OUT,like the window frame did to DOROTHY 😅 IMAGINE HIS DREAM😆😆😂😂😁
Why The Wizard of Oz tornado?
Because it was an MGM movie, and studios have always recycled sets, props, costumes and stock footage.
I used to laugh hard at this part when I was 5 im 10 and do not think it is funny anymore 0:34
The oz tornado ediiting...😑😑😑😑
