Colin Firth is still the best Mr. Darcy of all time - he's like fine wine, the older the better 😊
Yes but there is a big difference between men and wine....
Absolutely! Wine doesn’t leave a trail of washing on the floor nor does it open the fridge every 5 minutes to see if food has magically appeared out of nowhere😂
@@daisy8297 As to the main differences between men and wine I must say that your list is too short.
Me and my mum even agree that he’s the best one too
In my opinion, this is the best film adaptation of this Jane Austen novel. The cast is beyond praise
Except it wasn’t a film. It was a six part television show.
Colin was my favorite
Es la que más me gusta, también!Sus personajes se parecen más a los de esa época, mujeres y hombres,más rellenitos.
Still my favorite
The best version of this movie!
To me, Jennifer Ehle became Elizabeth Bennet, she was absolutely perfect, better than I had imagined the character Eliabeth, when reading the book.
I agree, she was a great Elizabeth, absolutely the best.
Everyone was so perfectly cast- hard to pick a favourite but I must say Alison Steadman’s squawking Mrs Bennet really brought a lot of life and comedy to every scene she was in 😂
This was definitely the best production of ",Pride and Prejudice " ever. It was trurer to the book snd the acting was supperb of any account American or English. This is a classic that can always be
shown. They all deserve an Oscar .
RIP Benjamin Whitrow, who was the best Mr. Bennett ever ⭐🧡
“He simpers and smirks and makes love to us all. I’m prodigiously proud of him.”
Colin Firth is the best Darcy ever
What stands out to me was the perfect casting and acting, e.g., how with simply an expression Colin Firth showed pride and then puzzlement over his attraction to Elizabeth at their first ball.
I knew the moment I saw him Colin WAS Darcy.
Fun fact: The actresses who played Georgianna Darcy and Lizzy's Aunt Gardiner (Joanna David and Emilia Fox) are mother and daughter in real life
I loved everything about this series, absolutely everything, and one little thing that stood out for me was precisely Julia S. playing Lydia, with her cheekiness and raspy voice. She was infuriating and hilarious and no other actress playing the Bennet's youngest daughter ever came close to having her charisma. That raspy voice! Loved it.
Don’t forget the grating annoying laugh! Her portrayal of Lydia was sheer genius!
The one thing I didn't like was that she clearly was so very much older than the character. At times, it was cringing to see this mature woman play a teenager.
@@carmenl163It didn’t seem obvious to me, I thought she pulled it off splendidly.
@@carmenl163I disagree Julia Sawalha had already had plenty of practice pulling off a teenager while in her mid twenties, albeit a more sensible one than Lydia, as Saffron in Absolutely Fabulous. It's called acting. Only Jennifer Ehle was physically anywhere close to the age of her Character. But all of the girls pulled of the younger roles.
@@annamae859 That's not acting. Otherwise all child actors would be replaced by adults. Men would play women and black facing wouldn't be a thing. Costumes and sets wouldn't be necessary.
Acting is about ensuring that everything resembles as much as possible to a certain fantasy situation.
I can’t get enough of this version and cast of Pride & Prejudice. Mr. Darcy!
Most of the actors are fantastic 😍. But Mr. Collins is so ridiculous, self-satisfied, and patently stupid, I have high praise for his portrayal!
I know right? Couldn’t stand that character. Wanted to throat punch him. The actor did a fabulous job. ❤
Yet the same actor gave a chilling portrayal of Adolf Hitler in Valkyrie a few years later.
Yes, Forgot to add he's totally unrecognizable in other roles! Great character actor!
Oh yes, he makes you cringe every second of his appearance :)
Austen was *so* good at writing scathing portrayals of inappropriate aspirants to heroines' hands. Wickham the slimeball, William Elliot the money-grubber, and John Thorpe the boorish lout leap to mind. But she excelled at clergymen. I sometimes wonder if she had specific men in mind, as some of their quirks and turns of phrase seem so true-to-life. Goodness knows, she would have had ample opportunity to observe her father's colleagues. I wonder if any of them recognized themselves in her novels and blushed? Nah -- the curates and vicars Austen depicted were so lacking in self-awareness, they wouldn't have seen themselves in their satirized forms.
This was the very best of all time , and I'm 81 yrs. Old. This should be shown over and over again. This is absolutely a classic . Director and actors
did an absolutely a superb job. They should winn an award no one has been able to surpass them in this story.***************************************************
Bob, I agree the Pinnacle of perfection... So well cast, so well shot...The Perfect, Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett
Yes - the casting, sets and costumes were all perfect! I could literally watch this again and again. The most wonderful costume drama ever!
I have it on disk and watch it at least once a year since it's release. I loved all the character portrayals but that Mr Collins was the best. He was so slimy and disgusting. That actor did a great job.
The last time I checked, Crispin Bonham - Carter chucked in acting and became a teacher in a state - government, school, I think.
A rare chap indeed.
P&P 1995 is absolutely the best adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel that I have ever seen. I love the 2005 adaptation as well, but it requires a thorough reading or readings of Jane Austen’s novel, or viewing the 1995 version first, to understand it because there simply isn’t enough time in a two hour film to develop all the nuances of the novel.. The six episodes of 1995 do have the time to develop the story and it is simply said, brilliant. Thank you Andrew Davies for your superb screenplay. And every actor nails their role. Jane Austen would have loved it, I’m sure.🌹
A 2005 évi adaptáció már kicsavarta ..megváltoztatta a történetet..Az eredeti KARIKATURÁJA LETT
I watch this at least once a year, it is a masterpiece, this summary doesn't do it much justice however.
It’s on my once a year list too
Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle were so perfect in their roles. They truly did justice to Austen’s work. One criticism of this video. Telling us someone is alive doesn’t seem like much of an update.
I thought Alison Steadman played her part perfectly.
I've been a jane Austen fan since I was 14 - I'm 61 now - and in my opinion this adaptation is the best. It captured Austen's characters perfectly. I remember at the time there was criticism of Alison Steadman's role as Mrs Bennet, but personally I think she was wonderful. Still enjoy watching this today.
This introduced me to Jane Austen when I was 15 because of this adaptation and have loved all her stories from this moment and made me become an avid reader.
@@dawn5227 It's wonderful how Jane Austen and her characters are still inspiring people today to read!
Colin Firth will always be my Mr Darcy. I'm also amazed that so many of the "younger" cast were a great deal older than the characters they portrayed - and that Lady Catherine was quite a bit younger than she seemed in the production (great make up and hair)
Loved all the characters but Alison Steadman as Mrs. Bennett was absolutely hilarious. Couldn’t have been better cast.
The wheelchair picture in the thumbnail is clickbait and doesn’t appear in the video.
Thanks.
I love Jennifer Ehle. I've seen her in some other productions from past and present. She is a versatile actress, playing many different characters. She was a great Elizabeth. I think her rendition of Lizzie was iconic. Loved her refusal of Darcy scene. She handled it beautifully. Very emotional yet true to her character's pride . Loved it. I try to watch anything I see with her name on the credits.
Clickbait with wheelchair … therefore I won’t give it a like or subscribe. A dishonest trait among many podcasters 😡
Thanks
@@barbmoreau8595 Yes, that was disappointing to see the false picture. Julia Sawalha is doing well. Thank heavens!
Colin Firth is still the best Mr Darcy ever. It is such a pleasure to watch this version. The best cast I have seen
It’s the subtleties. They’re all brilliant with them but it really comes out so well in Darcy. You see what looks like ge I e admiration when Lizzie is talking.
My favorite scene of Darcy’s might be his interaction with Mr. Collins
Colin Firth did an excellent Mr. Darcy best. None of the future adaptation could match this series from 1995.
Love, love, love this series … one of the best TV productions EVER ❤ (IMO)
It is a version of P&P that is unmatched - I watched it many times - Loved the experience each time! What surprises me is that Jennifer Eyle remained in the background of the acting world even after her awesome performance as Elizabeth Bennett while Colin Firth who played Darcy, shot into worldwide stardom immediately with leading roles in classic movies, box office hits, and ... Puzzling!
Is it that female stars have to reinvent themselves more often in order to stay in view ...
I still watch the 1995 series of Pride & Prejudice; Great actors and a pleasure to watch. I preferred it to the 2005 version. I thought Julia Sawalha was brilliant as Lydia.
I'm so glad everyone who hasn't died is "living happily."
I love the book and this is the best because it was true to the book. The cast, acting, costumes and sets are the best hands down, it was really well done by everyone involved, it takes you into the world Jane Austen describes in the book. It is only version I have watched more than once and have continued to watch over the years which from me is very high praise.
I agree that this is the best adaptation ever. David Bamber was outstanding, and will always be Mr. Collins to me!
Agreed, I can't read the novel without imagining him speaking every line Austen writes for Collins.
Love love this version. David Bamber creases me up every time I see him.
All the character portrayals were plain brilliant. An amazing programme/film.
Interesting,y, Jane Austin, the author of Pride and Prejudice, is 8 times great aunt to Anna Chancellor, (Miss Bingley)
I never knew this! Awesome fact :)
Austen
The all-time greatest, best film ever made of this great Jane Austen novel. And my favorite character? Colin Firth's smoldering Mr Darcy! Just can't help it, I guess.
So pleased everyone is living ‘happily’ nowadays
I'm sorry that the actor that played Mr. Bennett died which he was excellent in his part and will always loved him for the wonderful acting he did in Pride & Prejudice.
I’m so glad all those who are still alive are living happily.
I agree this was definitely the best tv or film version of 'Pride and Prejudice' ever! Superb cast!
Lost count how many times I've watched it?
Oh yes, 1995 is the best of all adaptations to date.
I've seen some good Mr. Collins performances in other versions, but David Bamber is the gold standard, in my opinion. And Barbara Leigh-Hunt makes an outstanding Lady Catherine. They both steal every scene they're in.
I love how all of them are living happily at whatever age they are, of course except for Mr.Bennet, Benjamin Whitrow. I love this adaptation.
Yes his quirky sayings and handling Mrs. Bennett so well.
"don't stray from the script!" they're all living happily at whatever age they are now
So many people living happily
Obviously, they haven’t done much investigating into any of the cast’s lives post P&P or this video would have been much more interesting 😁
Mr Darcy Adored British Actor Every role he ever played on followed him through every emotion he so marvelously portrayed. Each role was perfectly distributed. The Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice. Was my first book of hers given for Christmas 1950. At 12. The first 'modern' book.
Best adaptation by far 👏 ❤
Colin Firth, the perfect Mr. Darcy ❣️
Most of these folks have appeared on Midsomer Murders to my joy!
Wonderful to see them then and now, but very little info about their lives, just that they currently "live a happy life". Anyway, thank you for the pictures and update on the actors of my favorite P&P adaptation. My favorites are Lizzy and Mr. Darcy, they were superb, and I was surprised to know that Jennifer Ehle is America, she portrayed Elizabeth Bennet wonderfully.
Nobody can fault this cast, each and everyone of them were true to their character.
Loved it .
It took me about 15 years to come around to this version having been a fierce proponent of the 1980 version with Elizabeth Garvie and David Rintoul. I've watched the 1980 version close to 1,000 times. What irked me about the 1995 version has mellowed over time and the scene between Eliza and Darcy at Pemberly, and his need to return to the piano room later is one of the finest pieces of cinema ever.
Esse filme do ano de 1995, foi a melhor versão, eu já assisti, umas 10 vezes e não me canso de ver. Maravilhoso! Todos atores são, SUPER MARAVILHOSOS! PARABÉNS A TODOS.!!
I particularly like this 1995 production. Nice to see what cast is up to these days!
I think the 1995 P&P is my favorite thing to watch. I have it on dvd (finally!) and could watch it over and over. I have several parts of it memorized. Favorite character? Probably Lizzy. Though I adore Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy I think Jennifer Ehle's performance as Lizzy was wonderful. I love the story because when you really like a man like Mr. Darcy you want him to have the best for the woman he falls in love with. Lizzy is well worthy of him because she is just so cool. I love how she turns down his first proposal because it was so insulting in spite of the fact that accepting him would save her family from that stupid sexist entail. But she had higher principles than that. Little by little she does fall in love with him and then accepts him when she realizes he really is a good man and now she loves him. P&P is my favorite book. Other great performances were Mrs. Bennet ("Oh, Mr. Bennet!") and Lady Catherine. All of the actors were just perfect for their roles.
Wow that’s a lot of people currently living happily. One wonders just how you know whether or not they are living happily.
I’m guessing “living happily” is the opposite of dead?
Yes it still managed to be a bit of a dead end. Nothing about what they did after.
This is a strange video, regarding what the actors are currently doing.
The whole cast was exceptional. The script followed the book which is amazing in and of itself and much appreciated by Austin followers.
We don't see enough of Julia Sawalha on TV any more 😍
She was in AbFab
She was in Larkrise to Candleford
She was absolutely brilliant in Larkrise to Candleford. I'm surprised that she's not used more often.
I love watching her in TIME GENTLEMEN PLEASE with Al Murray.
That was the best production ever ❤
I love this cast of actors. They are priceless. I love Pride and Prejudice. Did you know that the actors who played Darcy and Elizabeth dated in real life? I think very briefly but they did! I just find that so delicious.
It was such a great series, done so well and with none of today's attitudes and cultural references or signalling to prevailing concerns and ideals. Just pure Jane Austen - and done as well as possibly could be. There was a Vanity Fair series too - every bit as well done, and I loved that too. It was the last blast of the 20th century firing off it's final cultural references - without argument and controversy or attempting to identify in terms of modern UK.
I've read that Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle dated but split up afterwards. Sometimes the films or mini-series can be seductive but in real life each individual has their own personality and ego to consider.
This is absolutely my very favorite adaptation of Pride and Prejudice! The cast is perfection except, and don't hate me for this, the girl that played Jane. I just did not care for her and I didn't think she was nearly as beautiful as Elizabeth! Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy - oh my! And Mr. Collins in this is absolutely fantastic! Thank you for this very, very interesting video!
Just a bit bland by comparison maybe.
my favorite version of Pride and Prejudice right here. The old black and white with Lawrence Olivier was good too, but this one is my favorite
I love Greer Garson's Lizzy in the Olivier version
The entire cast of this superb series were excellent. That said, Anna Chancellor has been a particular favorite of mine since seeing her in this version of P&P. Her role in Tipping the Velvet was certainly a surprising departure after playing Miss Bingley.
I'm not sure if you know, but Anna is a direct descendants of one of Austen's brothers.
They were all perfectly cast.
Good to see where this incomparable cast is today!
The sound was rather uneven, though.
This is the BEST P&P adaptation EVER!
Love love love Mr Darcy
All of the interviews with the actors have nothing to do with the series
How does he know everyone is living happily?
😄👍🏼
Love this version ❤
It’s the best production barr none.
My favorate character was Mr. Collins who was acted very well and with humour!
The clips from the present are so very weird. They add nothing, but rather actually take away from this video. They start and stop in mid-conversation and almost all of them have nothing to do with P and P!
Still undoubtedly the best adaptation. Wonderful casts
I gave this a thumbs down because of the misleading teaser. It showed Lydia "then" and "now" in a wheelchair. What was that all about?
My favorite first is Mrs. Bennet then Mr Collins then the rest
For me it is the other way round, Mr. Collins, Mrs. Bennet and then the rest :)
Absolutely fantastic!! I own it and have watched it clise to 100 times!!!! I know every line 😁
Jennifer Ehle is the best Elizabeth ever.
My favorite character was Mrs Benett. I am a fan of Jane Austin. Must have read all her books several time. Of all, pride and prejudice is my favorite. This mini series resembles the book the best. I own the CD ‘s and have watched it over and over again.
It's one thing to be remembered as Lizzy or Jane Bennett, who were the heroines. It's all well and good to be remembered as one of the Lucas girls, who were certainly positive. But Anna Chancellor has to be remembered as the much-despised Miss Bingley, and Julia Sawalha has been burdened with the memory of the awful and ignorant Lydia Bennett -- and half the world wanted to stand in line to slap Lydia.
This is not the role Julia Sawalda is most known for. At the time she was the most succesful of all the young cast.
@@saffronjay3903 From Press Gang to AbFab she is an excellent actress.
I think that playing Lydia must have been a challenging role, trying to emulate someone so stupid, selfish, conceited, self-centered and self-led who not only had no idea of the damage they did but, even if they did, would not care. So the actress did a stunning job in what was a thankless role.
The other thankless roles are those of Mary Bennett and Mr. Collins.
Couldn’t stand Lydia that’s how good an actress she was and still is.
unfortunately, as soon as Anna appeared on screen, I yelled "Duckface!" ("Four Weddings and a Funeral") but never when I've watched the series
It’s just the best film depicting the authenticity on the novel. The cast members all had such an amazing chemistry. It can’t be duplicated.
The 1995 series will always be for me the definitive dramatization with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Furth as the lead characters. I gave up watching this video before I was half way through it. I got tired of hearing that X is living happily at age Y. I wasn't learning anything that I already knew about the actors.
I feel so old now
I find it an amazing coincidence that every actor is either dead or living happily.
Absolutely fabulous , I watch it at least once a year. Colin Firth is the best Mr, Darcy, but the cast in general is superb.🇨🇦
I worked as a nurse before I retired so I don't see the rerun of Pride and Prejudice until around in the 2015 or so. So Colin Firth is still the best Mr. Darcy I think.
Did you ask them if they were actually living happily? Asking for a friend. And must we have the fake scratchy old film effects?
This was nice to watch. Thank you
Alison Steadman should have received an Oscar!
Bingley looks so distinguished now . wow!
Beautiful cast. The 1995 film adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is my favorite. The actors still look good after 28 years and are good in other performances in which I've seen them.
so why the picture of someone in a wheelchair? more clickbait
Love this video!
The robotic voice is annoying. The script is repetitive. And what does “currently living happily “ even mean? Sloppy and incomplete
I suspect it was written and narrated by AI…
Yes and it cuts off each clip of the actors being interviewed. Very sloppy. If that’s AI, stories of AI taking over the world are greatly exaggerated!
Yes, the "happily" was funny. How does the robotic voice know? I guess if you're not dead or in a wheelchair, you have to be happy.
It can only beMrDarcy played by the seriously handsome Colin Firth.
One of my fab shows
Very nice review of then and now!
Would be much better video with updates on their lives/ careers, rather than, "they're dead" or "they're not dead yet".
So they're either living happily or dead 😄
I think Mrs. Bennett would have been the most fun character to play.
While I am happy that they are ‘living happily’, it was annoying and tedious to hear it repeated over and over again,
Never realised how old a lot of the younger cast were when playing the roles, but then I did think the 2005 version got it pretty spot-on in that respect (Keira was only just in her 20s, as was Carey Mulligan (Kitty). Of the rest of the sisters, Jena Malone (Lydia) would have been in either her late teens or just turned 20 and same with Talulah Riley (Mary), whereas Rosamund Pike (Jane) was around 25 so maybe a little older than her character. Of the rest, Simon Woods (Bingley) was about 25, Rupert Friend (Wickham) was around 23 so maybe a little young, Tom Hollander (Mr Collins) 37-38, Matthew Macfadyen (Mr Darcy) would have been 30, Kelly Reilly (Caroline Bingley) 28, Tamzin Merchant (Georgiana Darcy) would have been 18 and Claudie Blakley (Charlotte Lucas) 30.
But then the mini-series was filmed in the 90s, so maybe it's just that they looked older due to the cinematography that was around back then.
The styles and mannerisms of people in Jane Austen’s era looked and acted older compared to modern times. This is why the character’s appearance and age don’t seem to ‘match up’ now. This 1995 version took that into consideration when casting.
Love that you clarify "London, England...UK"
i love it,,i do have DVD and still VCR,,,LOVE THEM ALL,,,
This is the best adaptation of any 😮Jane Austen novel in my opinion. I liked Elizabeth and Mr Darcey.
Lovely to know the ones who haven’t died are “living happily”.
It's so nice to see Miss Bingham and Lady Catherine looking so pleasant in real life.
I was 25 when this came out, and it was the first Jane Austen adaptation I'd ever seen. My mom and I watched it together, and we both fell in love with it. It's a show that I easily get lost in, and there's just something about it that I get lost in.
My favourite character? I don't know. I always love Elizabeth ("Lizzy") and Jane and Darcy and Bingley, but the more I watch it, the more I love other characters as well. One who's grown on me as far as loving how she's portrayed is Lady Catherine. I can't stand her as a character, and I know that was what Jane Austen intended. But the actress portrayed her so very well. Mr. Bennett is also a favourite of mine, and I feel for Mary. Kitty and Lydia as well, and I always sort of had a thing for Denny. While Adrian Lukas did a great job of portraying Wickham, that character just gets on my nerves. I always want to shake Lydia and tell her to avoid him. haha
It really is very difficult, though, to pick one overall favourite character, and sometimes it changes from watching to watching.
Denny over Colonel Fitzwilliam?
