I can't afford a decent blender but I use my magic bullet and then I sift the ground zucchini. What passes through the sieve is for flour and the bigger bits is snuck into soup or spaghetti sauce for unsuspecting fussy grandkids. 😊
I'll have to try this with store bought squash this year because we didn't have a good production this season either. Usually we are overrun with squash lol. I'm glad I found your channel and got back into dehydrating foods. It's been decades since I used one regularly. I'm using an older (one temp) dehydrator for now and have dried quite a bit of our garden produce this season. Looking forward to doing much more dehydrating along with my usual canning. Thank you for showing new things to dehydrate and recipes for them!
I’ve found that I always have to dehydrate longer than the manual or recipes call for. I live in the Deep South and the humidity is brutal! And I, too, have forgotten things in the dehydrator and had to re-run it. Oh well…
This vid was so timely…I was given yellow squash two weeks in a row. Since I’ve never grown or used it, I wasn’t sure what to do with it, but didn’t want it to go waste. TY Darcy for this very informative vid. God bless you! ❤️❤️
You can raw pack, waterbath can any squash with a bit of lemon juice and fruit juice. Apple juice give apple flavored, pineapple gives... You guessed it, pineapple. Use it like you would a can of that fruit, pies, cakes, turnovers, etc.
Yellow squash is the one thing that grew really well in my garden this year. I have so much! I was planning on dehydrating it anyway so now I think I will make some into a powder and see how it goes. Thank you for the timely video!
I’ve got a ton of young Rampicante squash. I’m going to do this to see if it will thicken my Keto sauces and recipes that tend to be on the thinner side.
Hey lady. Could you please do a video showing us how to make smoked paprika. I am wanting to make my own using my bumper crop of pimento peppers and I am needing the help of a professional. If you don't want to or can't, I totally understand. If you are able to, that would be FABULOUS. Hope you are all well and that you are no longer down with the sickness. Take care, may God bless you and yours. Bye for now.
@@ThePurposefulPantry completely understand. If something changes please keep me in mind. Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly. Bye for now.
⭐️⭐️⭐️I think I know the answer to this and wasn’t sure where to post the question, so I’m putting it here in hopes of getting an answer. Am I correct that you should not add newly dehydrated items to previously stored ones in the same jar?
No - you can certainly add them together - as long as they are both properly dry. I give myself about a six month window - older than 6 months that haven't been rotated I use up and start a new jar for the newer projects - but there's no set rule.
Darcy - off topic for this video, but I thought you had done a video on dehydrating black olives (#10 size cans I got at a great price) but I can't find it. Is it an OK thing to dehydrate? & if so, will hot water rehydrate them and look at least reasonably edible? 🤷🏻♀️ Thanks in advance. I love your videos & my "dried" stores are growing!! God bless you & yours 🙏
Here you go! Yes, you can. Reasonably edible on their own? Not so much...but IN stuff, sure. ua-cam.com/video/x7l-nZGC0Oc/v-deo.htmlsi=9wmZ-94wcGu7jP6H
It loses so much of its body when frozen, but if you have it frozen in a state you want it in, you can dry it. Powdering can come from any version of fresh or frozen.
I live in FL. Still having trouble with clumping.. I add arrowroot powder, a desiccant and vacuum seal after each use. Do you have any advice for humid climates??
It depends on what's clumping. If you condition the powder before storing, don't open and use over the stove, don't bother vacuum sealing (that can create a clumping affect on some things). www.thepurposefulpantry.com/keep-dehydrated-powders-dry/
This might be a silly question but can you use these types of flours for coating meat like chicken? My daughter has a gluten allergy and I thought this might be something we could do.
@@ThePurposefulPantry so an example to clear it up in my old brain would be if you have to put in 2 cups of flour you would add 4/3+2/3 zucchini? Sorry

You’re a genius❣️
Love the tip of doubling your mat with drying smaller foods! ❤❤ thanks

Never pay attention to time - it's dry when it's dry ;)
You are not alone!
This is an amazing idea to use up all these squash.

Sorry - I don't have a smoker, so can't. If I had a smoker - or could convert our grill to one - I could - sorry.

Thank you so much Darcy! I always learn something from your videos. You are a treasure! ❤
Thank you for another awesome video. I really appreciate ALL of your content.
So nice of you!!
You just saved some of my squash. Thank you for sharing this video, I did not know you could do this.
You are so knowledgable. Love your videos.

@@ThePurposefulPantry Not nice. Honest opinion.
Woooooo! This is fun to learn!
Great use for your extra squash!
❤ wow, had no clue i could do this. I have so much i wqs giving it away. I will try this. Your videos are great oo
Can I do the same thing with patty pans?? ❤
yes
Love squash 💖

Awesome video! Would this work with thawing out frozen squash?
It loses so much of its body when frozen, but if you have it frozen in a state you want it in, you can dry it. Powdering can come from any version of fresh or frozen.
No excuse to loose anymore Zucchini. We always get more than we can use…they come in so fast!
❤thank you ❤
Can you do this with freeze drying? How does that turn out?
Yes - and works great.
Can you do this with winter squash? I have an abundance of tromboncino squash this year.
Not quite - but you can still use it to supplement.
If you're making an amish style bread and using about 5-6 cups of flour, could 1 cup be zucchini/squash powder?
1/3 of the volume - so yes, you could

Zucchini/summer squash flour has now been added to my preservation list.
This might be a silly question but can you use these types of flours for coating meat like chicken? My daughter has a gluten allergy and I thought this might be something we could do.
It doesn't work the same way - in my preference - but you can use it to supplement those flours that do work for it.
Can you use pumpkin this way too?

Where do you get your mats?
Amazon - my store link is in the description box.
Do you need to blanch yellow squash and zucchini before dehydrating?
No, or I would have shown doing it in the process.
I sliced a lot of yellow squash and put it in the freezer. Can I thaw that and dehydrate it for powder?
yes.
You don’t have to thaw first. 😃
I’m confused at the ratio of flour and zucchini,so was it wrong with the 1 cup+ 2/3 flour ,then1/3 zucchini???
That is what I said...it was wrong. 1/3 of the volume, not simply 1/3 cup
@@ThePurposefulPantry so an example to clear it up in my old brain would be if you have to put in 2 cups of flour you would add 4/3+2/3 zucchini? Sorry
Have you tried to make those snack chips? The way you do from tomatoes? I wonder what?
From yellow squash? No, ut I do with zucchini, I just prefer them over yellow squash, bit they will chip just fine.
