Some very pleasant sounds and absolutely extraodinary technique, but if ever the criticism of everything sounding the same within a genre could be applied...this is it
I think this stuff sounds super pleasant as a style to jam in for a few minutes, but not as a whole ass genre. I could never listen to an entire album of just that
i dont care what other peole say, i love these players and they deserve all the success they have. Ichika Nito is my favorite, far from the best but his tone and creativity are fantastic.
I think that Tim Henson does it pretty well. A lot of the Polyphia songs stick with me. A couple from Ichika too. But in a lot of cases it can feel like there's too much going on for me to really connect with it. I love the music, but I love it in a very different way to the other music I listen to
@@zmlhezmlhe4843 Its mostly major in tonality and its too "pretty". The harmonies here are totally cliche and its mainly technique driven. Have these guys heard of dissonance?
Bro, seem you're irritated by my comment, how old are you, 11/12?!? What do "pentatonic shredders" have to do with it: don't you know anything else? ? There is an infinity of other music and there are countless other players to be heard out here, who are far more versatile and exceptionally virtuosic, more than these niche shredders. Listen, look around, grow a little, broaden your mind if you can: don't stay limited.
when I hear or read those old farts (I'm only 70) saying that young generations have nothing to say or to give I remember why I don't have many friends
All very clever but a bit boring after about 30 seconds. The last guy was quite impressive but I could only listen to him for a short while. It's still good to see people pushing the boundaries of the guitar though. Keep it up fellas 😃
I’m sorry, but this just doesn’t sound musical to me at all. It sounds like someone asked an AI to write a song on guitar. I’ve heard Atari 2600 soundtracks that were more musical than this stuff…then again, I also think Shawn Lane is the pinnacle of the art of electric guitar and plenty of people think Kieth Richards or Slash are the “best”. There’s no accounting for taste… So while this style doesn’t stir my puddin’ I AM happy to know that it’s out there and that the people playing and listening have something that they love and can kinda think of as “theirs” like I do with guys like Lane and Lenny Breau.
Not sure why you guys called "math rock". I would have titled top 5 guitarist that use unconventional or hybrid techniques. Also I totally disagree with some posters who said this wasn't music or just music for the sake of technique.
honestly I think there's Tim Henson and there's everyone else trying to copy him. Don't know though, hard progressive never been my cup of tea and all, but I guess Tim and Polyphia just made this trend a reality. Don't feel the groove help me! Get the gimmick tho
In general it’s not pleasing to the ear. Stevie Ray bends one note it moves you, and it has 20 more melody than the finger gymnastics these guys are doing.
I absolutely admire the techniques and virtuosity these guitarists display but... Much of it sounds the same. In short: brilliant guitarists, boring to listen to.

I agree 100 % ... Give me Steve Morse for an hour any time !!! ... After first 2 I went to make coffee ! ...
A good bit of their albums have listenable songs. It's not only show off stuff like this. ua-cam.com/video/s8V5VtMCDV0/v-deo.html
Well I can and do and so do plenty of others
i dont care what other peole say, i love these players and they deserve all the success they have. Ichika Nito is my favorite, far from the best but his tone and creativity are fantastic.
No Melody that would stay with me. Leaves me cold. All amazing players.

They are absolutely incredible, but the style of music feels like AI generated music to me.
@@Johnnysmithy24 Hit the nail on the head
@@Johnnysmithy24 But I get the impression that may be what they intend?
@@Laurikiwi That’s a possibility
Tim's style seemed a lot heavier before he got all his tats. I'm also glad you put Manuel first, he really does stand apart from the rest.
Chon is so good. Groovy and tight af.
One needs a meth rock to play math rock
Guess I'll keep boomer bending....
You should make a Top 5 Blues Virtuosos list. And have guys like Gary Moore, Joe Bonamassa, SRV etc
MGF is the absolute goat in this genre. Happy you crowned him with the first place
Is really impressive, almost disturbing, watching them at moving their fingers so maniacally fast...only that they miss to make music.
is it because they are not playing the cliché pentatonic licks over a backing track while making weird faces ?

What is the name of the riff at 2:25 plsss
when I hear or read those old farts (I'm only 70) saying that young generations have nothing to say or to give I remember why I don't have many friends
Surprised you didn't mention Charles Caswell from Berried Alive. That guy is an alien
Next up we have our Top 5 Chemistry guitarists, Geography Guitarists, Physics guitarists and English guitarists.
That was nice but i thought the riff that broke the internet is Tim Henson's one from that one polyphia song
Manuel 👑

That’s exactly what I thought, it feels like AI music.
And I also fully agree on Shawn Lane, he is the one.
Idk but Ichika can be number 2 if you used his 2016-2017 clips
I would thrown Charlie Robbins in there he has skills as well
I'll take Stevie Ray Vaughn for 500 Alex.
Not sure why you guys called "math rock". I would have titled top 5 guitarist that use unconventional or hybrid techniques.

Sounds ferry..
Thomas Erak is the GOAT for me.
Not necessarily the best technician, but he's like Mathcore Hendrix.
This sounds more like playing piano
The best of all in this style is Charlie Robbins and you don't even mentioned him...

This aint music. It's sounds like lack of direction and frustration. But it does show technique though.
Word 👍🏻
Anyone else thinks it feels like AI music?
I think it sounds cool asf for like a moment, but I’d never be able to listen to a full album of this.
Agreed. Most of these artists probably never get laid. They're just boring and got too much time on their hands
I absolutely admire the techniques and virtuosity these guitarists display but... Much of it sounds the same. In short: brilliant guitarists, boring to listen to.
Yep
I’m sorry man, Tim Henson is #1 all day!
You could have chose so many other examples for Tim Henson you just happened to choose the worst examples

These players will be our only hope to stop A.I.!😑
Yep, AI meets their match
No thank you.
That certainly take hours and hours of practice though.
This type of guitar playing is just a mess but Tim Henson is a very melodic player and stands off from the others
Boring af
Boring one trick ponies
Boring, its technically great and melodically rubbish....
They have incredible talent, but I’ll be honest, I can’t stand this type of music for the most part. It sounds like AI generated music to me
All a one trick pony
Bunch of show off trick techniques thrown together with no musicality.
Clever but boring
