This is just great, for the last 2 weeks, my tv has went off at 10pm, and I follow the “lights out” rule. So I can kind of get the same feel as it must have been back there. Could never feel exactly as one did back then, going through how a family felt then during 1942. I’m greatful for those who put these out back then and for those who’ve brought them back to life. Many thanks!

In 1987, I was writing a research paper on Old Time Radio, and I wrote to Arch Oboler. He called me and we talked for a long time. He really enjoyed talking about his writing and radio work, and he decided that he would fill up a few cassettes about his life experiences and send them to me. A few weeks later, his assistant called me to tell me that he had passed away. She said he had been working on the tapes for me but was unable to finish. I was just a bit too late, I guess.

This episode and Valse Trieste are two of the biggest reasons I loathed Arch Obeler’s run on this show. For plot convenience, people do stupid and irrational things to move the story along rather than clever writing that puts the Everyman on a slippery slope towards disaster with well meaning decisions. Then there’s people waxing philosophical in the middle of catastrophe and repeating annoying trite phrases, but I digress.
