I actually cried when I played this and saw the transition to the new graphics. I played Monkey Island when it was first released 23 years ago - I was five years old and I have such fond memories of the game. I've been dreaming of the day when classic old games would get overhauled to look like new, but still have the great gameplay and storylines they had in those days. I love that they didn't touch the gameplay at all, but made it accessible to new players and oldies alike.
Would have loved if the special edition was in the art style of the Curse of Monkey Island. There's nothing I loved more in this series than that game.
The remake was a complete success, people who played the original could play it all over again how they saw it in their heads when they were playing and today's youth can play it in HD graphics because its what they are used to.
mi is one of the rare cases that almost all games are very carefully designed! its difficult to distinguish one as the best, but i think that the first is the most important as it introduces the most features. maybe a bit simplistic, compaired to mi2 and mi3 but still a highly entertaining experience. this deluxe version is made very faithfully to the original and is excellent for people that are bored of adventures without speech (like me!)
I'm Bobbin. Have you seen my mother? Bobbin was the name of the protagonist in the Lucasarts game called Loom. Bobbin Threadbare. I have not played that game in over 20 years and yet I still remember his name.
Grew up with this game...I remember completing it so many times over just because it was so much fun =D I still remember all the answers to the sword-fight statements lol!
This year sometime I hope I watch all the Monkey Island playthroughs, Earl Boen the actor who voiced LeChuck passed away this year, you might know him from the Terminator movies as Dr. Silberman.
GGRROOGG!! The circus brothers are funny. 17:18 LOL 35:45 Awesome fight sounds! I wish we could see it, it sounds amazing! Aack!Gophers! Grlpyt. Bgglw. Mfrnkf. Dmnkly. ROFL! Moss-covered, three handled family credenza?!? I've always wanted one! 57:05 Nick Fury! Insult fighting! Guybrush: "You have the manners of a beggar." Me: you shouldn't talk about your dad like that.
One of the nice things about retro, pixelated graphics is that, because of their low resolution, the player kind of has to half-imagine what the character looks like. Sharpen them up and no-one's gonna be happy. No-one can argue that the backgrounds don't look better though. Anyway, it only takes a click of a button to revert back to the old game, so quit complaining everyone.
I wanna ask for one thing, In The Secret of Monkey Island: SE when you choose classic version (F10), you have old version of game (graphic, sound) but without voice dialogs???Or I have bad verision of Special Edition.
I see on Lucas Website is possible to buy electronic edition. Someone knows if there is a CD/DVD edition with box of the Special edition(s)? Thanks a lot
"The only way to compete in the modern game market with this older game is to re-release it in a competitive format." Which, I could hardly call this as one. :p
I'm probably one of the few who prefer the Special Edition over the original. Make no mistake, the original is and always will be a masterpiece. But I found the Special Edition more appealing due to the voice acting and I like the artwork even though yes, its quite cheesy.
You know, if there was an option to use the voices for the old graphics, I would have bought this in an instant. But I really hate the redrawn graphics.
+Mutant1988 You can turn off the updated graphics on the new one. Or you can buy the new one, and mess with a bunch of the files, use a scumm emulator, and presto, "Ultimate Talkie Edition"
Im none to fond of the new character designs either but the actual scenery looks really good and the voice actings always a plus. Still at least we can put it back to the old style if we want to , although i have a copy of the original still for that >_>
You just spoke for all of the people on Earth, twice, in that comment. That takes some balls :D since it might be an opinion that you share with many people, but I'm pretty sure there are equally as many, or more, who'd rather not look at pixelated graphics, when the remake is perfectly fine, even if not a masterpiece. Btw, do you mean that people stopped being happy when games stopped being pixelated? So my favourite, and one of the greatest games, Grim Fandango, also made people unhappy, then?
monkey island games were solid! OK..some puzzles encouraged the player to think outside the box, but still I cant understand how anyone could get through without resorting to a walkthrough, but at the same time you probably had a moment where you'd kick yourself for not figuring it out sooner. even so, at the time the first monkey island games were released, walkthroughs weren't as accessible, you'd post to your gaming magazine for a hint, or hope one of your classmates who also owned the game had figured it out before you!

I wish they had redone the graphics 2D. The same cartoony style as the Curse of the Monkey Island. Best looking video game ever.
Would have loved if the special edition was in the art style of the Curse of Monkey Island. There's nothing I loved more in this series than that game.
me 2 i want indianajones special edition
The intro, when it changed from the old graphics to the new, gave me chills! Childhood memories with updated graphics! :)
It's a nice way to introduce a new generation to a timeless classic. Man, I wish Gabriel Knight or Loom would get the same treatment...
Totally agree, I am 18 and actually I bought this collection yesterday, and I am very happy about having the chance to play this fabulous game in 2012
47:50--I'm dying!!! xDDDDD It's even more hilarious with voice acting!
The remake was a complete success, people who played the original could play it all over again how they saw it in their heads when they were playing and today's youth can play it in HD graphics because its what they are used to.
The nostalgia :[ I should really just replay this game instead of watching it.
just wanna say...thanks for making long plays like this because not all the time i want commentary and milion episodes :)

Damn that music at the beginning! made me cry a bit
MAN, this is weird. Can't say I like Guybrush's pony-hawk kinda thing, but they did a great job remaking this game! The voice acting is incredible!
Where is it mentioned that the yellow flowers are tranquilizers? I never figured out how one was supposed to guess that.
Grew up with this game...I remember completing it so many times over just because it was so much fun =D
I still remember all the answers to the sword-fight statements lol!
You must have learned handling your blade at a cooking class!
The part with the dog was funny lol.
If you wait long enough at 46:30 then a pair of pirates will eventually show up and talk about this or that.
Secret of the Loom was awesome!
I cracked when the dog started speaking. I have to get this game.
Haha i'd love an "ask me about Loom" pin badge.
the unseen fight scene i find rather amusing!
This year sometime I hope I watch all the Monkey Island playthroughs, Earl Boen the actor who voiced LeChuck passed away this year, you might know him from the Terminator movies as Dr. Silberman.
God, the memories
1:41:00 was a hell of a laugh.
GGRROOGG!!

Insult fighting!
Guybrush: "You have the manners of a beggar."
Me: you shouldn't talk about your dad like that.
43:42 You and me both, Guybrush.

Come to think of it, being able to hold your breath for 10 minutes is something that would really befit a pirate.

The Troll is supposed to be George Lucas.
lol good one
No seriously. He's got the flannel shirt and beard and everything.
remember, it was also made by LUCASarts.
***** No. The troll being George Lucas makes him George Lucas.
LucasArts studio wanting the troll to be George Lucas makes him George Lucas
Hold 3!: "The moss covered Three handled family credunza!!!"
I see on Lucas Website is possible to buy electronic edition. Someone knows if there is a CD/DVD edition with box of the Special edition(s)?
Thanks a lot
Prefer the original graphics (purely for nostalgia reasons), but I do like them having voices.
All hail mighty cubex for it's bounty to us loyal subjects.....yes for the record I am aware of what cubex is. Doesn't stop me nonetheless.
Watching again because the new installment is coming out next week!!!!

"The only way to compete in the modern game market with this older game is to re-release it in a competitive format."
Which, I could hardly call this as one. :p

42:27 "Uh" "Gee" "Well" "Gosh" wow so many different choices which one I should choose
You know, if there was an option to use the voices for the old graphics, I would have bought this in an instant. But I really hate the redrawn graphics.

What's with those random bits of it morphing to the original version and back?
Scene comparison.
I understand the newer style graphics, but I wish they had kept the old user interface.
What about Loom?
leChuchks sounds like a character from wacraft 3 ,i don t remember wich one tough

Im none to fond of the new character designs either but the actual scenery looks really good and the voice actings always a plus. Still at least we can put it back to the old style if we want to , although i have a copy of the original still for that >_>
