Do you plan to sell your extra eggs?

Hi.....yes I do plan to sell eggs. I had great success before and I have more hens now. I will sell them for 5.00 a dozen.

Nice as always. Metal is better in that it won't harbor any parasites like wood might b/c it is a smooth solid-material. It's wild how much fighting hens will do for the favored box. I had went from 6 to 3 boxes b/c only one box gets used but then I had my first broody hen who was a weak-fighter where extra boxes are necessary to not get her too beat-up. One of my hens is still alive from your original videos, dumped dogs took out all the others, she's probably 9 or 10 years old I'd imagine. I still haven't adopted your meat harvesting strategy, I guess I just never found the time.

Thanks! Yeah, I agree that the metal boxes will offer better protection from mites and lice. I can't believe you have a hen that old. They is about the max for a chicken. Curious if she still lays eggs every now and then at that age. I am going to keep this flock for at least 5 years. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Take care!

@@colesbackyardcoop She probably lays less than a dozen eggs per year but she moves well & is a healthy color, this will be her first year without the other original 7 but I do have a few 3yo hens too. She might also not lay b/c I free range them, this time of year the yard-waste-compost pile is surrounded by grubs.

Do you like the metal nesting boxes? Are they heavy?

Hello. Yes I like them better than wood. Easier to keep clean and metal doesn't attract pests. They are heavy once put together but still will mount and the wall no problem. Thanks for watching 😊

How are these nests for larger hens such as Jersey giants? I believe you have Bilefelders in your flock and I believe those 2 breeds are somewhat larger than Plymouth rocks and even the Orpingtons. I guess why I am asking is some of the new nests made nowadays are small and maybe egg breakage would occur. These nests look bigger than most and maybe less breakage in the nests you are using in this video would occur. Thanks! Kevin

Hi Kevin. My metal nest boxes are about a half inch larger so they do offer a little more room. Although the standard 12 x 12 base is enough room for large breeds to lay successfully. I use nest pads in the bottom to avoid egg breakage. Thanks for watching! 😊
