I think the best part of your videos lately is that you seem more relaxed, content, peaceful. Less likely to be disturbed by those who get confused about their role in telling everybody the right way to do things. Less stressed about meeting imposed standards; just choosing your own after careful consideration. Having fun! Bless you in the days ahead!

Keith, you've lived a good life. Having machinery to play with and a solid job with the state has allowed you to be in both worlds. You have earned retirement without doubt. It is wonderful to look forward to that. On this end, we are pleased to watch your pursuit of perfection as you resolve problems and explain the solutions. Thanks fro years of postings and all the exciting things you have done. Let's see what you do in your new life as a gentleman machinist. Looking forward to some exciting work.

Sounds like a great time Kieth. The big R is just around the corner coming your way. I am super glad you have a stay busy plan and you have all those new to you scores. A few of them would be great for my box. All quality pieces with fantastic deals indeed. A $5.00 lathe with $5K in tooling is ourstandard way eh, LOL. A really nice post and taking the time to meander away from the main track gives all kinds of bargins for you/us to win on.

I bought a 2x72 grinder thinking I was going to make knives. Well it was harder than I thought to make a sellable knife so that dream kinda died. But, I also do a lot of fabrication projects. There hasn't been a single project that I haven't used that grinder on. They are such a useful, versatile tool!

Best job in the world. Nice to hear Mike being mentioned, I used to enjoy his videos and the opening tune popped into my head straight away. Hope he is well. Enjoy your retirement. I've been retired 5 years now. Only problem is you never get a day off! All the best, Mart in England.

Some where in the family we have a smaller version of tongues that you showed. My father who had at some time worked in a blacksmith shop in Seattle, said these were for soldering bandsaw blades. The large mass would be heated to near white hot In a forge, then clamped over a properly prepared solder joint, and allowed to cool.
    From a faithful viewer.

That bender is the accompaniment to the Roper Whitney Angle-iron notcher. The notcher allows you to notch angle iron and make frames. The trio is the notcher, the chopper, and this bender. I have two of the three and that bender is the only I haven’t been able to find. I made my own. I wish I’d known you were in the neighborhood. Would have been good to cross paths again. I was in Vancouver for a bicycle show or I would have been at the bash..

You're right, Tombstone has become a T-Trap (Hate to say that - given it's history and contributions to the [Wild] west!) Been to Bisbee too! Drove from Vegas to visit my Uncle in Tucson, took me to the aircraft museum, stood under a B52 and went into president Kennedy's air force 1 Electra.
I think I went to the same steakhouse back in 2000, had warning sign at the entrance, no concealed weapons.
My Cousins used to ride their dirt bikes near the ICBM launch site, guards would chase them away.
As an Aussie tourist it was certainly an interesting place.

S7 tool steel is good stuff. My employer and I use it for gears and all sorts of things that need to be a bit hard but also tough and not brittle. Similar to 4140 only it heat-treats a lot more reliably.

I don't guess that I have ever been excited about another man's retirement before. Congratulations Keith. The saga of your trip was interesting. Might I suggest another stop next time you are in the central California area? The Knight Foundry in Sutter Creek is a one&only. This was the foundry and machine shop that supplied the gold rush. It became derelict for a period but is on the way to being preserved. One of the big old lathes came around the Horn. The water turbine that runs the entire enterprise is a true gem, if the state of commyfornia has not stolen the water yet. Mr Knight built the first "Pelton" wheel for the turbine. It will take an entire day to begin to get a grasp. The Empire Mine is another prize. And I could go on about curly Redwood, etc.

@Hoaxer51 not to mention that you can experience all 4 seasons in 1 day sometimes. I've stopped in the evening at 90 degree temp.
