Sure, he started going to brothels just like Anthony had said he should be doing when he didn’t in earlier season, but as he says he was trying to the type of man society expected, a flirting cad, which he never was. He’s always loved Penelope but he’s been surrounded by love his whole life (unlike her) so just didn’t realise what he truly felt until that kiss made him realise. From then on he’s been trying to be brave enough to see if she feels the same. The moment he knows she does that’s it for him. No more games. For me it was Penelope who should be saying let’s talk tomorrow before telling your family, seeing as she has a huge secret that she has to tell him. The wait for part two will be torture!
I love mama Bridgerton too! She's wonderful! Yep! The truth is: Colin always had a soft spot for Pen. He already loved her as his best friend, when the attraction hit, he doesn't need to think about it, he knows he wants her with him and he never felt a deeper connection, mostly because he was behaving as someone he is not, he's a sensitive and romantic guy trying to be a skirt chaser, which he got tired pretty easy.
I think Colin is certain. A lot of his plot is that he has been putting on a show and not being true to himself. Even in the excerpt from his Journal that Pen read he talks about how being intimate with those other women as he traveled was nice but isolating. He had no real feelings for them. I don’t think he actually truly felt any depth of connection or intimacy until he kissed Pen. With her he has the friendship, someone who understands him and the attraction. The real issue for part 2 is that he has no clue she is lady whistledown. That’s has to come out before they get married bc Eloise knows.
Colin Bridgerton would never court Penelope Featherington. Not in your wildest dreams. Colin doesn’t court Pen. He claims her.

It’s been there muuuuch longer for Penelope(12 years). He has always had a soft spot for her but kept her in a safe place because she was his comfort. The one person who let him be himself and never judged. In their book they got engaged and married about halfway through. So this follows pretty closely except for the timing of his discovery of her being Lady Whistledown and when that carriage scene happened. I would love to see her reaction to his proposal from the book included but I doubt they would do it.(she literally fell out of the carriage onto the pavement when he proposed like that)
You have to give the Queen props for constantly upping her wig game. I don't know how they're going to top that last one. LOL! Cressida's father disapproves of Eloise because of the scandal last season, when Lady Whistledown wrote that Eloise had been attending "radical" political rallies about women's rights, etc. He thinks she'll be a bad influence on his daughter, when actually, Eloise is a really GOOD influence on her. But not in the way HE would think is good. I think Colin has spent the last few weeks coming to grips with his feelings and figuring out what he wants. I believe he's loved her for a long time. He told her last season that she's always been special to him, but he didn't realize just how special until they kissed. Now that he's figured it out, his fear was that Penelope wouldn't want the same thing. (I know. It's hard to believe he could he be that oblivious, but he was. lol) When he finally worked up the courage to tell her and found out she felt the same way, that was it. I don't think he'll have any doubts or second thoughts, at least for now. Penelope, on the other hand, probably will. Because she knows they have the big Lady Whistledown secret hanging over their future happiness. Looking forward to your Part 2 reactions!

I understand that they did it for drama and suspense, but I don't like the change they made from the book with Colin proposing to Penelope before knowing she's Lady Whistledown. In the book, he knows that she is, and proposes to her anyways and I definitely prefer that. One of the few changes the show has made that I can't get on board with.
This is more dramatic so more appealing to showrunners. Think of it this way. There will be two proposals. The one you saw and the one after Colin realizes he loves her just the same post reveal.

Colin is an enthusiastic enfp. He had an idea and he is running with it. Pen needs to not get swapped up and slow that guy down.
