I cry every time I hear this. I remember those wonderful days when everyone was united & helped each other & did everything for our Holy Land of Israel.
The same thing happens to me every time, when I listen this gem. However that first time hearing this Song I don't knew anything about story of it - I cried with deep happiness inside me. Big hugs for all your people from Belarus. Now I dream to visit Yerushalayim.
Shuly Nathan is the proof that you don't need big big productions to make people get thrilled. All you need is your guitar, your voice and your love in expressing the Jewish identity of Jerusalem, the eternal capital of the Jewish State of Israel.
Yes.. I love this beautiful simplicity...a song that has existed for so many centuries in the hearts of the Jewish people.. The composer, Naomi Shemer put it in words and music.. Shuli presented it.. 💙💙
This song, sung in the brightness of the innocence of Israel's early days of restoration, for which Shuli Nathan was chosen to sing by its composer Naomi Shemer, resonates with such mysterious and deep emotion for one reason alone: behind it is the hand, the heart, the mind and the tears of the Creator, who fulfilled in these last days his promise to Jacob, to return his sons and daughters back to their land and to their beloved City, the City of King David and the city of Shiloh (Of His) (Genesis 49:1,10) Pele (Miracle) Yo-etz (Counselor) El-Gibor (Mighty God) Avi-Ad (Everlasting Father) Sar-Shalom (Prince of Peace), who shall sit on His father David's throne forever (Genesis 9:6)
I am neither Jewish nor ever been to Jerusalem/Israel but even as an outsider, I believe Shuli Nathan's voice and the melody symbolizes the Jewish people strife through history, where time and again, they were persecuted and marginalized while the rest of the World watched doing nothing. I can understand the dream, aspirations and resolute of the people - "Never again will they ever be left defenseless or vulnerable". Incidentally, stumbled upon this tone when watching a documentary about The Six Day War in 1967. It plays as Moshe Dayan is shown driving to meet Levi Eskhol. I don't advocate war or aggression but I do believe that the Jewish people deserve a land that they call their own, not because of historical or religious reasons but because the rest of the World failed them - not once but several times over. P.S: I don't mean to offend any ethnic, religious or cultural group with my views with my comments/opinions. I am merely exercising my right to the Freedom of Speech.
verb (used with object), persecuted, persecuting. to pursue with harassing or oppressive treatment, especially because of religious or political beliefs, ethnic or racial origin, gender identity, or sexual orientation Please explain the first question...
***** Why are the roma (gypsy) persecuted? Why are the Armenian persecuted? Why are the copts (Egypt)Persecuted? Why are non Muslims persecuted in the middle east? Questions of racist ignorant bigots!!!
wow even questions are racist now ? non of them other groups have dealt with persecution on the same level as Jews and I just wonder why it happens to them throughout history in many different country's its a valid question not a racist question and when we find the answer we can decide how come the Palestinians have to pay for it ?
It's worth noting that the author, Naomi Shemer, chose Shuly Nathan to sing this song at its debut on 15 May 1967. So this is as close to the original intent as one can get...
I'm crying too often when I'm listening this great song and voice (first performance). Amazing. Worth my tears. The true about this song and her sweet angel voice.
You had a good school teacher! In my school they spoke that I should hate her and all of them. Oh, yes. They used dirty tricks like that. But I have mind. Very talented person and very beautiful song. God bless you all.
A very very big kiss to the Jewish people in Israël and all around the world. Peace in Middle East and security for Israel. I love you. Shabbat Shalom. Bruno from France.
A nice civilization always make nice things and creation. This song and so beautiful is one more prouve. Beau, émouvant et plein de sens, merci beaucoup.

This is raw and just amazing, very 60s. Obviously Ofra Haza did this like an angel with soul crushing feeling but this a different but just as awesome experience...

Just a woman and her guitar. Making music such as the angels would sing. A gift from G-d.
I cry every time I hear this. I remember those wonderful days when everyone was united & helped each other & did everything for our Holy Land of Israel.

This woman is the original performer of Yerushalayim Shel Zachav.
It's not a woman, it's amazing beautiful miracle! Great voice! Beautiful like a spring flowers. Pretty voice.
She sings to us through the decades, and she always will.
Beautiful in every way.
She looks a very humble lady ...with an angelic voice.
Am I in heaven now? Coz I can hear an angel singing,,,

Oh my. Shulie Nathan 1967 did the first rendition. I have always believed that Ofrah Haza sang this song from the beginning . How wrong have I been?
Ofra Haza was a young girl in Tel Aviv in 1967! :)
But she later did a powerful version which is available on UA-cam.
She has the voice of an Angle that puts me to sleep whenever I hear her beautiful voice:)
it's really acute
