    If you’ve never used an air filter these are great. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx_dppjvjF8BYEmPSDTcgCUdRsgWYLXNHN I ended up with three after starting out with one. The noise level depends on the 1-3 settings with how hard you want the machine to work. You can also upgrade the filters and get one better for pet hair and smells which is a must have in my home. I noticed the air seemed lighter and easier to breathe when running the machine for the first time. Works great every time. Highly recommended!

    I bought this based on the CR article. I've never owned an air filter but I reluctantly succumb to the fact that I have allergies after years of denying it and proclaiming my health and vitality have some how denied science.
    It arrived in the afternoon and I set it up running in our bedroom on its highest setting. Later that evening we retreated to said bedroom and I literally felt a difference in the air. Not like a mood or an ambiance but a tactical tactile difference. I have been sleeping better than ever before.
    I've only owed this thing for a week so you make your own judgements.

    This is the best air cleaner I ever purchased while the filter isn't hepa independent research showed it was just as or more effective also while you stated u cannot turn off the ionizer--true but it doesn't emit ANY ozone in fact it clears ozone so that was misleading in your review.. ALSO why buy something with 20 settings 5speeds 5 filters all this crap when all you want is clean air. Anything with too many settings buttons and electronics takes away from what the intent of what the device does - Vitamix has been around for 50yrs and that's why-it just works!
    Feel the same about this product and am ordering a second one.. Also, it's made in Sweden NOT CHINA people

    • @ABG2412
      @ABG2412 4 роки тому +14

      1) Unfortunately (for a number of reasons), Blueair has relatively recently moved manufacturing to China. Blueair was purchased by Unilever. They are no longer the fully Swedish autonomous company they once were. And just to be clear: Regarding any comments that are made about "Made in China" not being such a bad thing... Even ignoring personal feelings/considerations, this is often simply not true... If you work with electronics or many other manufacturing areas for that matter, you will be extremely aware that while often much more costly, the parts that are made in Korea & Japan are almost always *vastly* superior to those that are made in China. Many high end European manufacturers have their low end products manufactured in China, but not their high (or even) mid range products. Quality may not be the only reason to avoid "Made in China" but very often it absolutely is still a valid one when considering options. You are not going to see Austin Air (or likely IQAir) moving production to China anytime soon... Winix (manufacturer of Consumer Analysis' current top purifier) produces in Korea as well. Understand, there are so many beautiful things about China -- this is not China "hate", but from a manufacturing perspective and recognized objection from many people for other reasons, noting the origin of manufacture can be a legitimate consideration.
      2) Consumer Analysis' preference for True HEPA is very reasonable and well founded. While the Bluair units do perform FANTASTICALLY when new and with fresh filters, the HEPASilent technology comes at a cost. It *does* lose efficiency as the filters load (naturally, how quickly the efficiency declines depends on how quickly the filters load). Those more open Blueair filters depend on electrostatic charging to work to specification and as they become more coated, the positive draw from the filter is reduced. This is just a reality with electrostatic technology. To counter the weakness of electrostatic filters, Blueair ingeniously introduced ion brushes that ionize the particles and thus increase the likelihood that those (now) super-charged particles will stick to the filter media. Though Blueair does not say as much, those ion brushes begin to spread out over time (years) and progressively lose their ability to ionize like they used to. At this point, even new filters cannot compensate. On their "Classic" line, the ion brushes also tend to become coated with debris and are nearly unserviceable for the owner. If the brushes could be replaced, they might really be onto something brilliant.
      A True HEPA system will generally work as well 5 years later with a new filter as it did on day one as long as the fan is running similarly well. In fact, with use, true HEPA media can become even *more* effective at removing particles. However, resistance increases and thus can adversely affect airflow.

    If I would've watched this review before buying I probably wouldn't have bought it. But I bought slightly used(like new condition) one with an extra filter still in the box and it was only $150. The main reason I bought it was for pet dander from my dog and macaw and I heard it works great for that. Normally a HEPA filter and a UV light would've been higher on my list but the price was too good to pass on this. 3 speeds are totally fine with me and I love the quiet action. Timers and wifi just seem like clutter to me and I'm super happy with the simplicity of this(so far). Let's see how quickly it gets dirty and how easy to clean and change the filter.

    There is nothing wrong with low level ionization- when used internally near surfaces that will be "charged" it is less likely that the ionized air escapes the unit in the form of Ozone- this is because the Ions are immediately able to bond to something IE- the filter media and particles.
    Even then, low levels of ozone is safe.
    It takes a pretty powerful ionizer to produce enough ozone to cause negative effects to health- I personally use a PCO air purifier (more like sanitizer) and it really gets rid of dog smells- I recently had it shut off for a day when I washed the pre-filter and I distinctly smelled dog in the house. The amount of ozone coming off of the PCO is hardly detectable (you would have to turn the fan to low and stick your nose right up to the vent to barely smell ozone.)
    The bastardization of Ozone is caused by uneducated idiots not understanding what it is, and the years quacks sold those old machines that put out unsafe levels of the stuff- treat it like bleach- a tiny bit works great as a simple and effective sanitizer, but use too much and you can get very ill.
    I need a Purifier to take care of the actual particles in the air because of how much pollen I deal with, and this is probably going to be what I get based on it's design.
