The eyes of the Bolt Action players are upon us to which us beginners everywhere march with them on this journey!
Amazing! I love it
Late War Paratrooper squad is the way to go when building these. When trying to play competitively, keep the builds for your squads “Role Specific” for example; one squad maxed out with SMG’s for close range assaulting, and a second squad with just Rifles for longer range engagements. ALWAYS take the 1x BAR. It’s too strong to pass up!
The US troops really benefit from the move and fire special rule, so play really well as a mid range skirmishing army. Sticking to the middle of the board and putting pins on opponents in the 12-24” range. Take advantage of their ability to move and shoot to push up the board early and maintain board control.
Another thing that pairs well with Airborne is the Medium Mortars and the Light Howitzers, both for competitive builds and also for theme. Whilst your small 6-8 man skirmish squads keep board control, your mortars and Howitzers can pummel tough targets with indirect fire!
I like to run a double platoon with Two Mortars and 1-2 Howitzers!
Also don’t be afraid to put a bazooka team in a Jeep and keep in reserve, bringing it on later game to drive it up the board and take out enemy armour!

Nervously giggling at my US Para platoon built based on historical 1942 TO&E...
But hey, had lots of fun digging the history books & web and painting them.
Aand, maybe 1-2 slight differences build for rule of cool..
Thats what I love about historicals, it encourages people (including myself) to learn more and read into the history :)
The main reason with the BAR was that it's bipod was a concern on getting tangled in the webbing and chute ropes and rigging, and unlike the M-1919A6 it was not easy to detach and reattach. So no BAR's for any airborne units until they was basically a mainland force towards the late fall real early winter 1944. Then like you said it was battlefield pickup or unit swap times to get them.

@@MordianGlory I was told this by a 82nd Airborne veteran back in 2012 that served about a month before Market Garden till VE day, so I'll take what he said as fact. The units I'm waiting for you to review is the Soviet Tank Riders and Assault Engineers as they are the only ones to have and use body armor in the game. My 11 man Assault Engineer squad is probably the most expensive infantry unit I own with 11 veteran men with 6-7 SMG's a single LMG, Flamethrower, 2 Panzerfaust and SN-42 body armor they come in at 266 points!!!! then another 54 points for the mandatory regular truck with pintle MMG.

You can take Bar 1 per squad or in late war 1 bar + 2 lmg market garden and onwards.

The Airborne does sound really fun actually. I hear tournaments in the US focus on a more Axis vs Allies system, rather than free for all matchmaking. Which style do you prefer?
I feel like Bolt Action is more balanced and designed around Axis Vs Allies, so thats the format I prefer :)
I bought the us airborne starter set and I’m currently painting it up! I love the Medal of Honor: Airborne game and band of brothers so it was an easy choice
Medal of Honor was awesome back in the day, I am a big fan of Rising Sun
The classic medal of honors hold up pretty well. The operation market garden level on airborne is one of my favorite levels in gaming

I am planning on doing a beginners guide for all the different factions, So in the future that will cover the German Army!

I picked up Band of Brothers a couple of years ago to introduce people to the game, got my good friend into the game and he decided upon Germans, so I focused on expanding my USAirborne.
I love playing my USAirborne. So damn fun.

The BAR thing is odd because the Band of Brothers starter suggests you build both the airborne squads with a BAR
My secondary Army, 101st airborne. Mostly coz of the Band of Brothers TV series & Sabaton's song Screaming Eagles.

Love the airborne but yeh the lack of Bar sucks. All I could figure around it would be to take glider troops so they end up sorta like airborne but with bar access.
Glider Troops work, but they are only regular which makes me sad. If you have the Battle of the Bulge book you can take Late War Paratroopers who can have 1 BAR :)
Easyarmy has a vet glider squad option that allows you to take a bar and pay a point per man to be stubbon
Well worse case I’ll sacrifice the bars but man it feels bad. I’ll need to recheck but I swore the gliders could be higher than regular. However they did take heavy loses from their outings so that may be why. 😮
I recently “won” an airborne starter set. (I came in last place in a tourney and that was the wooden spoon prize). Trying to decide if I should wait until V3 before deciding how to run them.

I have watched this video a few times now as I get into BA with the US Airborne starter army. Hopefully no one is a huge stickler for proper fatigue colours and rivets in your weapons because, coming from 40k, I will most likely slightly off historical accuracy.
Brand Of Brothers, really? My favorite WWII flick is A BRIDGE TOO FAR, I mean that opening monologue alone get your blood boiling. Highly recommend, its on youtube rn free. Ive watched it three times since memorial day. and its a 21/2 hour movie.

Hey Mordian, recently got a box of U.S rangers and wanted to know how to best load them out? A friend told me you can have a bazooka in your special weapons squad if you select the Dday theatre.
