My mother has been a cosmetologist/salon owner for 33 years, she absolutely loves her career. She has 3-4 boys who are on the spectrum and she keeps me updated on all the improvements they've made since she started cutting their hair as toddlers.
I agree with Abby. Those sinks mess with your neck. My chiropractor advised me to bring a cushion whenever I go use them or don’t put your head all the way back.
I just love how wonderful the cosmotolgist is with Abby! Just an idea to get her used to the reclining in that chair for hairwashing if you have a recliner or family does try having her try it on there and see how that goes. I think she did wonderful for her first time sitting in the chair
Yes!!! This is a great idea to practice. I’m almost 30 and I still have to try SOOOO hard to do the shampoo chair at the salon because I don’t like to lie back or lean back like that. My mom actually taught me to lean forward over the laundry tub (a garden tub might also work to shampoo my hair when I couldnt wash my own for various reasons.
I never use recliner chairs because they arealso very uncomfortable and give me anxiety but maybe it would have help desensitized me before 30.
@@RaechelArgento I hope you're able to get something to work. As long as the recliner is not just in the middle of the room I'm best with them for my medical conditions. Up against a wall to help stabilize it so it won't tip and feels so much better to rest

Awesome job Abby 🎉 trying out the hair wash seat, took me forever to find a barbers that my boy was comfortable in, his barber recently left 😢 so we’ve got a new guy but turns out the new guy is really understanding and was reading my boys non verbal communication so well, by this I mean sensing that he was anxious to begin with and not pushing for too much conversation but also still engaging with him like a 14 yr old and not a little kid 🙌 ❤it’s just awesome when you find people who really understand

Abs has the most beautiful hair ever! She did great trying out the shampoo bowl. I think taking her every so often to help her get acclamated to it will help. I can see her being a diva about it once she gets used to it. I love having my hair washed at the salon!
They make inflatable portable bowls online if you want to practice at home as well. My son HATES water in his face or even the chance of water in his face, so we've been working on that.
I’m a stylist with a son with ASD and ADHD , so luckily I do his hair but it wasn’t always easy he can now go the the barbers and sit with his head still

I wanted to say how uncomfortable those chairs are for me. I always had to brace myself when they got ready to put my head back until the gal put a towel around my neck and then I felt safe. Otherwise I felt completely unsafe and didn't want to wait for it to get done. I hope in the future you'll have luck with the shampoo chair but no worries if you don't because you could be anyone and be uncomfortable.
The mom is obviously a ball of nerves worried about embarrassing behaviors. At one point I see her exhale with relief the Abby didn’t make a scene. The more often u do it the better she will be. And also u let her get away w way too much

Can you explain how long a video ad needs to be watched for you to get the benefit? And what about when there is 2 in a row? I don't mind helping you by watching the ads, but don't want to watch the whole thing if I don't have to. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us. I've watched for a long time.. I'm sure they have a conversation with her about it..things like that take some preparation.. Sometimes it's more than Abbie wanting or not wanting her hair cut...it's maintenance that everyone does for themselves IMO anyways 💛

Loved the salon visit wonderful idea to just come and get comfortable in the chair, have you ever tried soft bangs to keep her out of her face.
The last time I ever been to a hairdresser is maybe 15 years ago. I don't like to let it wash, so I wash it the day before and they just spray water it. Now I cut my own hair, so much easier for me. But for Abbie, maybe one day she will let her hair washed, but it is not really needed. (Only for people who wants to do other stuff with it, color, curls etc) Ps: Abbies hair looks amazing

I am just think that all people go to a hair dressers, Dentist etc , that need to sit on their chairs and lie back, so why not allow them have this as part of their therapy to be able to sit on the chairs to have their hair washed or to open their mouth and lie back in the Dentist too.
