Well that's because it's "inspired" by Dissection... I mean I don't mind at all that it sounds so similar, I love it, but they did practically use the same riff which explains the black metal quality.
This album will always be special to me, since the first time I got to see CoB live was when this album dropped and I got it at one of their shows. What makes it better was I got the album signed by the whole band and got to shake Alexi Laiho's hand. Never going to forget that. Rest in Peace Wildchild, the metal scene and the world misses you. COBHC will never go away! \m/
It's nothing groundbreaking, but it goes back to their roots, which is what every pre-RRF Bodom fan has been asking for. Listening to this album and seeing that they finally prioritized their longtime fans in front of their wallets made me incredibly happy. Here's to another 20 years of Bodom.
some Dissection fans talk shit about Alexi for using riffs that are clearly influenced by dissection. But Alexi has once stated that Jon was one of his biggest idols and that he does it to pay tribute. It's something he always did and it's not just Dissection he draws from. In Bodom After Midnight he took the melody from the soundtrack to "The Rock" and in Red Light In My Eyes Pt. 2 he took one from Mozart. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery and it's not like the rest of these songs isn't just as good as the part he didn't invent himself
@@AgeofJP Because they're popular and "too mainstream" and kvlt edgelords had bands drawing from that, even if they are humble and decent enough to openly admit it. I'd say the Dissection and Amorphis influences on COB are really obvious, and I love that, and they've been open about it, having done covers of both. In terms of overall style though their merging of those influences with power metal, virtuoso guitar on par with Malmsteen etc is different. I am glad that they really went back to these atmospheric and black metal roots on their final albums, a great return to form (I am not so keen on Blooddrunk)
Message to COB:- Please come back and be awesome again. This fan right here loves COB and Alexi so much that she puts your photos in all of her social media. I am a proof that a lot of people look up to you. So, please don't fade away.
I don't understand why people are always so butthurt about COB, their music can't stay the same forever. No band can do that and make good songs. well... maybe amon amarth, but their sound just tastes like wood after the last 10 albums that have sounded exactly the same. Also every band that grows in skill is bound to change their style too. It happens. after years of playing guitar i find myself playing in a very different and diverse style than a few years ago. Yeah, not all like it, but stop hating COB because "everyone else is doing it"
You are so right, this is what I love of them, they're never ripetitive, so when you listen to children of bodom you'll never listen to the same stuff again and again like many bands ;)
I must say, after being hugely disappointed with just about everything that came after Hate Crew Deathroll, this is a HUGE step in the right direction. I hope theie new album will bring back past glories the way this one tried to.
Yeah! That's it! I kept wondering exactly which BM riff and style this reminded of, and Dissection's "Storm of the light's bane" is spot on. Musically a great album to rip off if you ask me.
I so love this song!!... It's the most epic song I've ever heard of COB yet! Can't wait to have the album!!!... Until then listen to this over and over again. and I already kinda figure's out some lyrics: "Halo of blood. Change by chance we ride. Take this pain, make me light...Children of the night. Always be alight. There by here I say..Halo of blood"
I like it! It has a something wild vibe to it. I'm not to picky on what Bodom release nowadays. They've had so many amazing albums so I don't mind if they change it up a little.
Have you heard "In the Shadows" from first album. I´ts even closer to that. It´s one of my faves. Most underrated Bodom song ever by both listeners, and band itself.

Hey actually this song is pretty cool. It's a fresh sound and has some of that old Bodom energy to it. I love the black metal influences. Why i believe most people dislike the new bodom is because IT IS the same formula. The song structure that took hold on Hatecrew Death Roll literally hasn't changed since then. Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Guitar Solo, Keyboard Solo, Chorus. People praise the old material because not only was it better, but it was more interesting.
no no no no no dude death metal is just death metal. the nearest type is thrash, but lyrics are not the same, music is more dissonant, more extreme, and in death there is a "dark dimension" that thrash hasn't. power metal is a bit like softer thrash and it doesn't really looks like death and dude, neo metal will NEVER ever have something to do with death metal.

one thing I can say, its amazing how do you have so committed metal culture in Greece !! sometimes I saw more metalheads in Athens than I've seen on the streets of Helsinki :D ! Stay metal bros !
Silent Night, Bodom Night is another fast song. That's really what they're missing. Nowadays they all fall in the tempo of AYDY, with that same drumbeat and identical riffing style. They still make great riffs and Alexi's wailing some badass solos once again. They each showcase their talents very well, they've just fallen under using that same tempo over and over.
Usually, some bands lean towards milder musical styles over the years. Compared to other albums, last COB's album was pretty much in that line, but now this song proves the upcoming album will depart from that trend. This is the blackest I've ever heard COB. And that is great news!
I am from Finland, I have born here and my whole bloodline all the way from the days people started use Finnish language is from here 100%. So i can tell you that you are right.
For sure dude Hanneman is a huge influence ever, for every guitarrist. But I meant Jeff Watters, he played is this album right ?some solo .. and Alexi recorded something in the past with annihilator, there are many pics of them on internet..But check the song from Annihilator, fun palace, remenber me some parts. All of them, Hanneman, Alexi, Waters they are amazing guitarrists.. Wainting for the new COB CD ! and TOUR ! Come to Brazil !
Why does it feel like everything to do with metal these days has hateful comments? It's not about the genre or what the band looks like. It's about the music and the passion. I don't care if you listen to Trivium, Slipknot, Amon Amarth, or even Asking Alexandria. As long as you listen to any extent of hardcore music and don't act ignorant, then I think you're a metalhead.
However you guys discuss wether COB 'imitates' a genre or not. This song is a bomb! It blows my mind. It's super that metal bands keep looking for ways to be original. If every band would keep it's genre wich it's played for years, these bands wouldn't exist long. Every band has ever looked for something different, just to be new. And that's what metal is about! A metal ballad from Hammerfall is nice, a doom metal song from COB (or is it just the instrumental part?) can be catchy! I just love it
I love the way keyboard and vocals fits so good on the chorus, it's a super-heavy and black song, Children of Bodom done a very good job on this one, it changes a lot of the other albums, it remind me a little bit Hatebreeder with the power of Hatecrew Deathroll !
Rest in power Alexi. You were the best!
This has to be their most underrated album. It's not their best, but it seriously deserves a lot more love.
The best since Hate Crew Deathroll for sure!
This album is one of my favs. Top 3 for sure
It has a lot of gems on it! This track, transference, bodom blue moon, damaged beyond repair, all twisted, hell...even sleeping in my car was great
hatebreeder and this are my absolute favorite
I agree. This one really has a kick to it. I love it.
very black-metal influenced, i really like it
very Something Wild influenced
Dissection vibes guys...

Eh, I think this song is more black metal, that song is more like power metal with some black metal elements.
Yes, it does, after the death metal and black metal parts in the intro it's basically just power metal with screaming and some thrashy bits.
And nothing ever will, just the old tracks will keep that memory alive!
its like black horizons from dissection but its sounds good too!

I love the way keyboard and vocals fits so good on the chorus, it's a super-heavy and black song, Children of Bodom done a very good job on this one, it changes a lot of the other albums, it remind me a little bit Hatebreeder with the power of Hatecrew Deathroll !
About two more weeks until the June 7th, can't wait! Give me the album already! Keep up the great work COBHC \m/
