I like that you don't throw away the tongue scratcher just because it's not zero waste since it would be idiotic to throw away stuff that would last anyway.

I'd encourage everyone to get a saftety razor like that one, it's so so worth it and easy to use. I was really scared I'd cut myself more but I've only nicked myself once in like 9 months of using it. I used to nick my knees all the time with my old gillette venus thing!

    • @blueollis

Yes! They're fantastic and I totally agree... nothing to be scared about! I've never once cut myself.

Elizaloutwo I would like to use it but the main problem is that is not possible to fly with it in a carry on, it can be used as a weapon according to airlines

That's a good point, I hadn't thought of that, not been abroad in a long time! You could always use a safety razor at home and have a small stash of plastic razors for travel? Would still be cutting down on plastic :)

I love how you talk about the transition...I am interested in zero waste but sometimes it seems really overwhelming. I'm going to do as you suggest and as I use things up replace them with an eco friendly alternative. That seems much more doable than just trying to start over from nothing!

Thank you so much for introducing me to the safety razor! You may not think you said anything particularly special, but it tipped me over to finally buying it and I love it! I still have a disposable one hanging around that has an attached mini-electric razor on it too so I don't want to throw it out. I usually use that when I am not feeling too confident like if I have to shave quickly HAHA or when travelling but I am ready for when it finally rusts and after that no more buying razors!

Love! I clicked and when you said you made alterations I was like SHE BETTER STILL HAVE THE TOUNGE CLEANER! Becauseeeeeeee it was a thing and I would’ve hated to see it go honestly. You love it it seems. Thank you for the video. I made the change to schmitts deodorant (jar not tube) and I regret nothing. It’s a glass jar and a lid that can be chucked into recycling with things of a similar nature! I’m not brave enough to make my own yet, but maybe I’ll try it once my jar is empty! I’d love to reuse it and it seems a logical course of action that it should continue to House a similar product.

It's so great to hear you're making ecological changes! Yes, natural deodorant does seem to scare a lot of people. Just remember that sweat doesn't smell... chemical reactions do. So as long as you're not putting harmful and unnatural chemicals into your deodorant you wont have BO.

Also with regards to your almond oil for your makeup cleanser, after removing the makeup with the flannel do you just rinse your face? Do you not find the oil is difficult to remove?

i recently started making a paste out of chickpea flour and water to wash my hair, i leave it on for a few minutes and then rinse with a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water. The vinegar i buy in glass and the chickpea flour i buy from a bulk store or in paper packaging :) I've tried so many things to be no poo, vegan and zero waste and this is the only thing that's made my hair actually feel clean and not irritated my scalp :)

I've started using a bar shampoo from Ethique and am liking it so far. It lathers very well and leaves my hair non-greasy. It comes in a paper box. The only downside is that it ships from New Zealand, but it seems like it will last quite a while.

It takes a bit of getting used to but, after a while it becomes norm for u and u couldn’t image putting all those sulphates on it again. I also use coconut oil on my scalp to stop it itching.

You can make a slit in a metal can like a canned good can that's been emptied. Use like a soup or broth or something that you can pour out with the lid still on. Make the slit empty it and rinse. Let it try and you can put the blades in there then tape the slit and recycle it. Or you could take the lid off put the blades in then tape the lid.

Hi Blue, I have been using your recipe for toothpaste for a while now and love it. But I have a problem with it now that it is quite cold (freezing in my bathroom to be honest!) - it has gone really solid and it makes it difficult to use. Apart from keeping it in another room where it is warmer, I wondered if you had any suggestions for making it less solid?

    • @blueollis
      @blueollis  7 років тому +2

How long did it take you to use everything all up? I cannot believe what a warehouse I have of backed up products!

I am very conscious of using only what I need so I've still got a lot of stuff that was gifted to me that I haven't got through. I've got enough to last me many years. I'm donating things that haven't been used, though, which is most of it. If you've got stuff already, there's no need to buy more (even if it is more eco-friendly). Just use what you have until you need to make a repurchase and choose a more sustainable and cruelty-free option.

Simona Padegimaitė I did at first because I was pressing too hard. Maybe try a lighter hand and be super careful in certain areas? Cutting yourself while shaving sucks!
