  • And just like that, after 52 days of growth as the fourth nestling hatched in the Cornell Hawks nest, the young hawk nicknamed "L4" took off for the first time!
    Watch live at allaboutbirds.org/cornellhawks
    A Red-tailed Hawk pair has been nesting above Cornell University’s athletic fields since 2012. They make use of two different light towers for their nest sites. In 2012, 2015, and 2018-2021 they used a tower near Fernow Hall, and in 2013, 2014, and 2016, they used the tower nearest Weill Hall. We installed cameras at both of these sites to get a better look at the intimate behavior of these well-known birds as they raise their young amid the bustle of a busy campus.

    TAT It is always breathtaking to watch them fledge. Good job Big Red to raise four kids successfully through their fledge. Unbelievable creature. Hope nature bless them.

    So, I was two days early on my prediction. I have such mixed emotions because I thoroughly enjoyed watching this nest this year and I am so sad/happy to see them go! Just think back in March you had two hawks flying, now you have SIX! I wish them peace, health, happiness and a beautiful life! THANK YOU CORNELL FOR ALL YOU DO - FOR BRINGING THEM INTO OUR HOMES AND SHARING WITH US THIS INSPRING, GORGEOUS HAWK FAMILY💕

    Oh happy day!
    I watch other bird species throughout the breeding seasons. They all vocalize for quite a while before lift off. Are they communicating with their parents, other fledglings, or is it just nerves?
    Thank you all so much!

    Wow, all 4 fly! So great to see. And we thought, when she laid 4 eggs, that it would not be a good ending for chick 4.. But totally opposite then what we thought! These strong birds of prey sure know how to prove us wrong sometimes😃

    Well! Congratulations L4 on your determination to fledge and I do pray for your safety and possibly seeing your family once again before everyone gets off into their own directions for good too.❤️🦅 I’m glad I found this channel to see before they all ended up leaving.❤️❤️🙏🏻🦅🦅🦅 🦅 I will most definitely be checking this channel next Eagle season along with the one I watched all the time from here in SW Florida. God bless, hugs, and love you this Hawk family and all the people on messages and also and mostly not last is Lady Hawk. Definitely will see your name next season and be talking with you too. Hugs always, Sue M. (Clearwater, Florida)❤️🦅🦅🦅🦅🙏🏻😊👼😘👌❌⭕️❌⭕️😎

      The parents will teach them how to hunt, while bringing food to them until they can forage on their own. There will be times they are together with the other L's, and times they will be alone, but the parents will make sure they are prepared for full fledging.

      @@joanies6778 Hi Joanie. I do thank you for sending me a message and answering a few questions I had and wondered about. That is basically what had happened on this one live Eagle cam that I have been watching for two yrs here in Florida. The Eaglets do take their time getting ready to leave for good so I guess, they are basically just checking out the areas around them and loving the fact that they can fly too.😊❤️🦅🦅🦅🦅 I’m glad that I will check this channel from time to time and see I’d there are also any update videos on UA-cam too to watch. Thanks again and have a blessed day. Sue M. ❤️🙏🏻😎🦅🦅🦅🦅😊👍👼✌️❌⭕️

    So very sad to see them all go but so happy to see them all healthy and fledged! That was mainly due to a pair of healthy, strong parents called Big Red and Arthur. They will all be missed and hope their futures are incredible like that of their parents. Blessed them all!

    Great footage! I am puzzled, though by the fact that #4 (and the first three?) has the red tail of an adult Red-tailed Hawk. I thought (and have seen many) immature RTHA with completely brown tails. ???

    A red shouldered hawk has been circling over my neighborhood for three weeks now, calling and calling and calling. I have to suppose her mate has died. Can a bird go mad with grief?

    Will they ever see their mom or siblings again after fledging? Where do they nest the first night on their own?

    • @evydarling
      @evydarling 2 роки тому +2

      Big Red and Arthur continue to care for the fledglings in the surrounding areas and trees for several more weeks-- it's just not at the nest site anymore.

  • @ryanfreed4467

    This is awsome statistics say that 80% of them will die in the first year. That means 3 of the four. Hopefully a falconer will get a hold of one or two

    It seemed to me that the hawks are better parents than human parents. The hawks have impart to their nestlings to be independent and to take care of themselves after rearing them! That cannot happen to human children!

    • @1980rlquinn
      @1980rlquinn 2 роки тому +1

      Generally, abandoning human children at only a few months of age is against the law ;)
