A combination of classic broadway vocal style and Darren Criss’s made it more entertaining and enjoyable. He should be doing more Broadway shows. I love the part where he’s singing and dancing with the men. He’s great! He should be doing more of that, also! Thanks for posting this!

@@pfloydsux he has a degree in acting, not musical theatre. university of michigan arguably has the best musical theatre program in the US (based on how many students get hired after graduation), but he studied straight plays there. i am a huge darren criss fan and even i understand what this comment means--he has a different style of performing than people who train in voice and dance technicals nonstop with the goal of being employed in contemporary american musical theatre. it's a little less "polished". but i think he's a blast to watch onstage because that "polished" style gets boring after a while. he was excellent in hedwig, where the style was meant to be more rock&roll and loose. being a lead in a tv show has nothing to do with being a musical theatre performer because live and filmed performance are completely different things! and the fact that he built a name for himself on glee is the very reason he was cast at all, not because he's trained in MT. but the "amateurness" of his performance is also because he only had 2-3 weeks to learn the part and then was in the show for less than a month, significantly less time than a non-celebrity theater performer would have to become comfortable with the material.
That note at 8:35 proves it. No one, not even Harry Potter, can beat the original Robert Morse. Has anyone ever heard Warren Berlinger sing it on the Londo cast? I've been trying to buy it but it's expensive online.

He has significant training and control but his natural tone is quite smooth and breathy so it doesn't cut through the way that other voices can.
