  • Solid fuel stoves, Part 2. I provide a brief overview and demonstrate the set up of several popular solid fuel stoves. Essentially it's a "show and tell" of some stoves I own. I talk about their designs and various other items of interest. It demonstrates that solid fuel stoves can come in many styles and sizes and even a piece of metal can have a story to tell.

Nice Video, I have many of the same ones you do. You are right, wind control is the key. Thanks for the video. God bless Brother

Thank you! This was one of my first videos. I'll be doing some more solid fuel tab videos in the near future. Thank you for your support and encouragement. God Bless You Too Sister!

I have solid fuel, liquid and gas stoves. I find myself gravitating toward solid fuel stoves when i head outdoors because they are the lightest and most compact. They are not perfect but they can be improved when used with a windscreen. Thanks for showing the solid fuel stoves you have. I didn’t know there are so many variations!

There are several more, and others from the past someone needs to reproduce. I discovered on in my research that worked in the same manner as a wood gasification stove. Solid fuel tabs emit a lot of gases and the idea of igniting all the gases could eliminate some of the odor and increase fuel efficiency.
I agree with you about the weight and using "hacks" with these stoves. I will be doing a lot of "Lightweight" camping this summer and plan on using my solid fuel stoves exclusively. Thanks for adding to the conversation! It's very much appreciated!

Having used the Hexi fuel for over 40 years I preferred to use the Jetboil or Trangia stoves, depending on where I was deployed.
By the way, you can clean the fouling from the mess tins and the Crusader Cup by rubbing the mess tins/cup on the grass/soil.
The BCB cooker and Dragon fuel have replaced the Hexi cooker and fuel (no more smelling that horrible fishy smell).

Thank you Brother Jay. There are several more varieties available. The ones on the video were the only ones I own.

I use an Out-D folding solid fuel stove with which I cook a whole meal in a skillet with using only one tab. Of course everything is ready to go before I start and things like potatoes are precooked in a microwave. I'm looking forward to finding the video of yours on that windshield mod. Great material your covering and in much detail. Keep up the good work.

I have a couple of the Bleuet brand Esbit knock offs.
If you are using the Esbit cubes that come in the foil backed package that can be separated along the perforated lines, you can carry 5 of the cubes in the stove at a time.
Arrange two horizontally along one edge, then place two in the opposite direction, and flip the final cube over (foil side up) and insert it between the other two.
They should be arranged like this, where U is the upside down cube. You may have to place the edge of the two vertical cubes under the horizontal ones to get them to fit.

Have purchased larger esbit suitcase model, wanna try organics but not messy.Super cedar ,something like that.Body depth is 1 1/2",so can fit thickness.A nice experiment however it goes.If works, wax, cedar shavings, parafin oil.. maybe a diy....

The Firedragon fuel liquifies when burning and leaks out. Also, the stove sits closer to the ground and is a greater fire hazard. Nothing about the Firedragon to date has charmed me away from the Esbit.

I wouldn’t be caught dead with a solid fuel stove.
My choice is an alcohol stove made from the bottoms of two 53 mm aluminum cans.
    Weighing a lot less.
More control of how much fuel to use
    The fuel pellets stink abominably

I have found that with the vast variety of camping/"other wilderness activities" there is a time and place for every type of stove I own, including my solid fuel stoves. Even with all the negative aspects of solid fuel, I still find them perfect for certain situations. My favorite cooking method at the moment are my Altoids Tin perlite and gelled alcohol stoves.
