    This song feels like an experiment, like Soken wanted to give the Garlean theme different bodies in preparation for Endwalker, and it was very successful.

    • @writershard5065
      @writershard5065 2 роки тому +64

      It was so good that I honestly thought it was made for Endwalker. It perfectly captures the mood of Garlemald as the dream that was doomed to fall, because despite every Garlean believing it was about unity, no one but their enemies realized that it was ultimately about xenophobia.

      @@writershard5065 I'm not sure if I'd say it was doomed to fall. Ultimately I think the Omicrons are meant to be a cautionary tale as to what the Garleans may have been driven to had things not resolved the way they did.
      A physically disadvantaged people, oppressed by their neighbors, driven to such extremes that they turn to technology to give them the power to overcome their oppressors. And yet, losing their humanity in the process and becoming a soulless machine of conquest that can barely remember why it started in the first place.
      We already saw the Garleans leaning increasingly heavily on Magitek, and also becoming looser and looser with their morals on Human experimentation.
      And ultimately, the base logic is the same. The Garleans tasted the bitterness of being pushed into the dirt and having the boot heels of others press them deeper into the muck. As a people they have deep scars from that past oppression, and they'll do anything never to experience it again. Even if that means conquering everyone and everything else until they are all Garlemald. The same road that took the Omicrons from being a frail struggling species to a galactic plague stripping worlds clean in the pursuit of growth and improvement.

      And there's also the red-zone transition dotted line that's in a section at the very back of the Resistance HQ at the border of the Ghimlyt Dark (it's normally blue when you can move).
      Now if Yoshida and co. didn't want us to see it, he would've simply walled it off with palings/actual fencing (this trick is actually used in Praetorium quite a bit to give a sense of linearity, despite the fact that the dungeon itself is designed akin to a proper overworld building). But the fact that he allowed us to see the zone line but not go past it indicates that eventually we WILL be able to.

    I think the Sorrow of Werlyt might be my favorite series of chronicle quests so far. Gaius' internal conflict between his beliefs and the reality of his actions is told in very few words and with not a single tear shed, but says more than enough about the pain he has gone through ever since his defeat, even before considering the fact that he had to watch two of his own beloved children die so far, with only three left. The final scene of this particular addition to the Werlyt story is possibly the most uncomfortable I've felt while playing this game-and I'm CRAVING for more moments like that. I really can't wait for the next EX and to see how deeper and deeper into soul-crushing despair these quests take us.

    I was brought in by being able to control draconic Double Zeta Gundam.
    But I stayed for the look of this town and nice but eerie theme. It's gonna be really, REALLY tough to follow Shadowbringers and I've been tempted to think that we've already seen all there is to see about the Empire, but this does give me hope for a potentially long overdue Garlean Empire-centric expansion for 6.0. The town's archetecture is so unique compared to most towns we've seen, almost Mediterranean themed. Scenic and beautiful, but there's this underlying layer of new story threads and secrets bubbling just beneath the surface. There's this implication in the song to a really sinister calm before the storm tone.
    They're already building up quite a rogues gallery of pretty messed up villains for it. (and god the villain of this Weapon story thread is creepy and depraved enough with just the sheer super dark implications. Makes me think the time for classy, understandable antagonists has passed with Emet-Selch and there's just twistedness ahead. Especially with new and improved Zenos on the throne, removing any semblance of restraint left on all the twisted stuff going on in the empire)

We already know that they were established by the Ascians, Emet-Selch in particular, so we may see echos of him throughout the expansion, too.

    A rather entertaining thought entered my mind, Werlyt is very heavily inspired by Greece if Terncliff is anything to go by, making Gaius literally Alexander the Great conquering Persia (Ala Mhigo) which is kinda a funny realization.
    However this music is an amazing piece of art, the lietmotif of Garlemald mixed with Meridianum and Pretorium in the later part of the piano and soft female singing.
    Its a compelte picture of Gaius theme and his journey and Valens is an amazingly well written villian, im preeetttty confident I know who he is, based on the fact this is a refference to 7, its very likely, he is Hojo in 14. The fact he said "To Err is Human" is rather odd, possibly a mistranslation, or if intentional, a nod to the fact that in 14 humans, are called Hyur, begging an odd question as to why he would say such a line?
    The answer, Hojo, Hojo was very fond of twisted experiments exactly like that of the weapons and it certainly fits his character asthetic, you can even see in his lips and nose that he is not a very attractive looking fellow from his shadow suggesting that its just a more buff version of 7's evil scientist or possibly someone related to him in 14's iteration.
    Either way, I have every belief that By the end of this Werlyt journey we will probably be either facing Valens, or possibly seeing him in 6.0 he actually have the vibe of an MSQ villian even if he isnt the main antagonist, he could very well be our next Vauthri, a fate I do not see happening for Noah Van Gabranth sadly because the Ivalice storyline is gonna almost certainly end with the Bozja storyline.
    Werlyt is almost certainly going to end with tragedy, and sorrow, I wouldnt be surprised if it has an absoleutley pain inducing ending that makes us cry by the end of it because of its namesake, but I believe it will be a precursor to what is comming, Garlemald in 6.0
    I do think Garlemald will be a MESS when we finally arrive, a biproduct of Zenos, and Funny Dan (Fandaniel's) actions, bringing ruin to the place and leaving it a land of ash and flame.
    If were going there in 6.0 I bet my biscuit that Sharlayan will be our main capital with Raz-at-hanz aka: Thavnair being our Eulmore, I also think we may see this as the first expansion where more than 6 zones appear in the game, possibly 8 or even 9, either that, or they may be the biggest zones ever added in the games code ever to cover teh majority of the world map.
    But yes, I do think we are going to Garlemald, in a form, just not the pretty super empire it is now, more a fallout post apocolyptic ruin, a biproduct of Zenos chaos inducing actions leaving us a broken empire to save.

    • @lazygirl5653
      @lazygirl5653 3 роки тому +4

      I high key hope the Bozja thing throws us a plot twist and we end up teaming up with Noah and the IVth Legion. Like, Gabranth was redeemed at the end of FFXII, it'd kinda make sense. Maybe the pursuit of Tartarus ends up being much more than even he expected and we need to work together to defeat it. Then having an entire Legion (or what's left of it after the Tartarus battle) guide us north towards the fallen Empire would be fitting as well.

      What if they also bundle in references to 9 as well? I mean, Zenos' latest outfit kinda resembles the polygonal structure of Necron, and Fandaniel's "constellation stone" was missing chunks of its full form (a 'headless lion', as it were; or mayhap a lion with its 'head' stuck up it's 'ass'?)
      There's also the fact that they were very much flourishing all of that golden clinkage in the very last scene - generally, the only thing that really comes to mind is Thief/Trickster, and then my mind wanders to the reoccurring summon Valefor (more specifically, the origins of his name - a Duke of Hell that tempts other to steal, is considered a friend to thieves and leaves those caught in traps to their demise). So maybe some 10 in there as well?
      EDIT: Also, the fact that Emet-Selch took the visage of Hades, the entity that was originally planned to be FF9's final boss - not to mention how he, as Solus, looked a shitton like FF9's version of Garland (which, ironically, we fought his FF1 version's opposing force when Elidibus went primal mode).

    This is a very evocative track for me. Perhaps more than average in XIV.
    First off, there is something nostalgic and intriguing about Terncliff itself as a location. It has that mediterranean vibe with its seaside location as well as walls and houses with white as their dominant colour. This setting should be cheerful by all accounts yet the track builds into this nostalgic sadness. I don't know what it reminds me of, but there must have been a location similar to it in another RPG at some point.
    Secondly, it took me a long time to finish Werlyt's story because the premise did not appeal to me at all. But listening to this track really pushed me to finish it. Even before finishing the tale of Gaius's children, I got this very specific image in my head from the song. That in this bright, beautiful setting dominated by daylight and warmth, there exists this profound moment that this music encapsulates. Of a group of friends gathered around a gravestone, silently reminiscing of the better days. And the sorrowful mood is being contrasted by the cheerful nature around them.
    Great job once again FF composers!

    And also , when you first enter there , you'll see a difference when you first came here and when you finished the quest , the people and everything had changed.
