    If you're having trouble finding players, consider my situation: I'm Brazilian. I have to work as a translator for the entire second edition book in every session. ASSH excels in setting. It's a shame I never found it in Portuguese. Great video! Keep it up!

      lol. You’re a good man Dalboni! Having to be the translator and play the game at the same time would be a challenge I’m sure. Thanks for watching!

      The game offers one of the best and unique settings for any type of adventure, and what makes it even more remarkable is how it's the ultimate mix of influences being so - truly a potpourri of ideas. The least I can do is spread the word. It’s so versatile that I seamlessly added conquistadors and New World natives without any issues. Nothing feels 'off-limits' in this game.

      @@Dalboni I think that aspect is lost on some gamers… the concept of pulling in people of different real world cultures and time periods, and dropping them in Hyperborea, makes for a very robust sandbox. Players could very well be modern or ancient, from anywhere in fiction or history.

    Talk with Jeff Talanian: yes.
    All: I have been GMing for a while. Here's how you get your group to play Hyperboria (or another system). "Next campaign with be 8 games long and we will be playing Hyperboria." Done.

    The system looks a bit more crunchy than I personally like for solo play, but I definitely see the draw of it.

      It is a real nostalgia vehicle, not just for folks that played the old systems, but also just big fans of Appendix N pulp literature. It oozes Howard, Lovecraft and Smith throughout. Thanks for watching and for the kind words. I was literally still filming at 2:00 am because the sound didn’t pick up in the first run through lol. I knew some of you guys really enjoyed the solo runs and I couldn’t let you down by throwing in the towel. Finished editing about 3:30 am. 😀

      @@booksbricksandboards783 Thank you for your dedication. 😅
      I am an avid fan of Lovecraft, Robert Bloch, Robert E. Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, Algernon Blackwood, Brian Lumley, etc.
      But I generally go for the weird tales, cosmic horror, mythos side of things. Less so the pulp.

    • @booksbricksandboards783
      @booksbricksandboards783  Місяць тому +1

      There are a couple of Lovecraft modules for the game (Mystery of Port Greely is one, it’s Innsmouth), and the Mythos is pretty well represented. It covers a lot of ground! It also specifically calls back to the different versions of the Cthulhu Mythos with different Hyperborea cultures claiming he is sleeping under their areas of the world (specifically the Eskimo believe he is under a frozen lake, while the folks around Dagon Bay believe he is there). The more you dig in, the more you realize how much work he put into the setting.

    My players want to do some high fantasy and I've been exploring systems to do it in a West Marches style

    Conan was considered born into a barbarian race . So I would say he was a barbarian before he was a thief. 🤔

    • @booksbricksandboards783
      @booksbricksandboards783  Місяць тому

      Ethnic barbarian yes, but from a class standpoint, he would have been a thief in traditional AD&D terms at points early in his career. Hyperborea created a barbarian that really reflects all of the varied skills that Conan picked up along the way. Barbarian tribes wouldn’t be made up of all barbarians from a class POV, there would have been thieves, clerics and fighters (dealing with original 4 classes there), with the fighters mapping most directly to the barbarian class. Thanks for watching.
