In this video i'm showing how to make 3.7 volt battery charger circuit with auto cut off on Full Charge.
For that i used TL431 Shunt Regulator, it's actually a adjustable zener.
I used mosfet which remains on by supplying small positive voltage using 1k resistor.
And cut off voltage is set at reference pin1 of TL431 by using resistors from both positive & negative.
When voltage in circuit reaches to threshold point TL431 connects negative voltage from pin2 to pin3 so positive voltage at mosfet gate pin becomes zero and Mosfet turns off.

can this be replicated for laptop battery ????
@@tnamen1307 No.
You mean for 3 s battery?
@@CreativeTechos please make circuit for laptop auto off charger.
@@tnamen1307 If you want to charge the laptop battery outside the laptop, then you need to use a charger with balancers. Moreover, the number of balancers should be equal to the number of batteries connected in series in the battery.
Thank you for the tutorial. I'm impressed to find someone actually talking in the tutorial. it made following along that much easier when someone is actually telling us what to do instead of just doing it and expecting us to know what they are doing. again thank you
You're most welcome ☺️
Very calm and clear explanation with demonstration is very appreciable. Even an untrained person could do this from your video. Actually this is the way of good teaching that everybody can understand. Thank you for an excellent video.
Thanks for appreciating, Thanks for watching 🙂
Greetings from Greece.
Simple analog circuit and effective, many people knows electronics but in practice you take +1.0000 my friend.
I believe that theory can not do nothing if the practice is not follow.
Thank you and congratulations.

I admire your works and projects with a high sense of respect and many times learn from them as well but may I point out a fact which I think is very important with regards to the circuit diagram shown from 2:33 to 2:36,the green diode is shown connected the wrong way,I think a circuit built in this manner will not work properly because the green diode should have been connected the other way round with the positive pin(which is pin 2) soldered to the positive supply line through the 5.6K resistor.I STAND TO BE CORRECTED ANY WAY, thanks.
Yes i apologise there is mistakes in diagram, but i have already updated and corrected the mistakes and the perfect diagram download link is in description.
Thank you! I needed this!

Is it working well?
Yes it works and use 5v 1A charger
Very useful circuit and I tried it. It indeed cuts the voltage when the battery is full but as long as the circuit is connected to the battery red led remains lit.
This is something that bothers me. It'll be draining the battery. Or is there anyway one can do it?
not sure why red led would remain lit as i haven't tested the circuit, but if you are concerned about green led draining the battery you can disconnect it. the red led should go out when the battery is charged.@@omodeindemustopha9270

Your videos are great! I will give you a /sub for that. Nice work.
Thankyou so much 😍
Thank you for all your videos. Very informative and helpful. One question, can the 431 shunt regulator be substituted with another type of regulator? Or something equivalent to?
In simple words TL431 is an adjustable zener diode, so there is broadly available in market with TL431, KA431 or KA431AZ both are same.
Great job👍 do make circuits for more than one battery, like charging 2 or 4 at one time with a suitable adopter rather than power bank
I'll soon upload 3s bms with auto cutoff and input can be taken from any adopter like of laptop

I have a question... I already have two leds that are controlled by a micro, so how do I have to conect that circut to the micro so that the micro detect when the batery is in process of charging or is full charged? Is as simple as conecting the input to where the anode of the led might be? or I can take out the leds?

Hi, thanks for your sharings.
In circuitry the red led is always on position. What type of diode should we use and where?
Please check updated circuit diagram download link is in video description, led position should be in series.
Thanks good idea..

Hello
Thanks for sharing and explanations but unfortunately you have a mistake in the drawing, the practical assembly is correct but different from the drawing you presented.
The junction of the two 4.7 kg resistors should connect to the No. 1 (reference) leg of TL431 and not to the Anode and again as shown in the drawing. And the Anode which is the middle leg 2 should be connected to the resistor junction 220 ohms and 15 k ohms
Hope you get the comment easily and comment

I enjoyed making this project from your tutorial however I must agree the green diode in the schematic diagram is shown pointing in the wrong direction. I look forward to more interesting projects such as this one was thank you for your presentation.
Thanks for appreciating, it was mistake in video but download link in description has correct diagram
You mean the 'diode is reversed'
This is the correct terminology.
You have not yet learned the language specific to electronics.
@CreativeTechos, Whether the circuit can take higher input voltage than 5v from usb. What is the input voltage range for the circuit. Can you suggest equivalent for the 431. For parallel charging of more li-ion cells requiring charging current exceeding 1A, whether the same mosfet an be used with appropriate heat sink.
Yes this circuit can take 5-24v input, also irfz44n mosfet drain current is rated 44A as per datasheet with good heatsink,
I will soon upload adjustable cutoff circuit can that can be used to charge any range of batteries of 5-24v,
Also you can use same above circuit for charging upto 5 cells in parallel with good heatsink on mosfet, and using 5A 2A charger
@@CreativeTechos So many thanks and my heartiest well wishes for your continued renovations and simplified projects. Kindly educate about the use of TL431 shunt regulator. How can it be eliminated with simpler component(s).
A large voltage cannot be applied to the input of the circuit because the protection circuit that is built into the battery will fail. I do not recommend a power supply voltage higher than 8 Volts.
You can apply max input 5v for 3.7v battery, Otherwise it will not fail but will remain in Cutoff state as this circuit is designed when voltage reaches 4.3v it goes in cutoff state.
@@CreativeTechos In case of poor contact at the terminals of the power supply, "rattling", the MOSFET will open for a while until TL431 gives a "command" to close it. And all the power supply voltage will be applied to the battery. If the supply voltage is approximately higher than 10 Volts, the protection circuit built into the battery will fail.
Thanks sir
You're most welcome
Thanks
Tnx super
You're most welcome ☺️
Can the input voltage comes from a 5V 10A power supply. I assume that it draws only the 1 amp it requires right? So we do not need to limit current. Nice video. Subscribed
Thankyou for subscribing, also i would like to let you know that you should use 5v 2A charger for 5 batteries in parallel, for 1 battery use just 5v 500ma
Is it a must or should( just for precaution) because only have high curent power supply tho?
@@maximussu7609 Just use a simple low value power resistor to limit maximum current in series with the power lead, something like 4.7 Ohms 5watt resistor should limit a short circuit current to about 1 amp, protect the circuit as well as the battery.
👍 good
Thankyou
Can you make the 3s (12v) versión? please! Thanks!!
Yes I'll upload very soon, subscribe and turn on notification for all to get notified for every new video
Very good

Nice explanation sir.
How many batteris can be charge at a time.if one ,canyou make batteris charging circuit?

What is the efficiency of this circuit bro?
Will any type of tl431 and irfz44n will work?
Does this circuit works with four 18650 battery connected in parallel with nominal voltage of 3.7V, 3400mah?? Need answers ASAP
Thank you for the Video Tutorial. Very useful. What is the cut off voltage of the above circuit?… Is it 4.2 volt ? Aren’ t I ?
Yes 4.2.
It looked a bit low 4.15. Do I change a resistor so it cut off higher?
I want to use this circuit in a device where battery is connected permanently, and input from 5v supply. Is it ok? No drain in battery when device is in off state??
Use a Schottky Diode on positive to avoid battery drain
Nice project 👍👍❤❤ but a question,can i use 2 amp charger for charge a 2500 mah battery 🔋??
Если поставить подстроечное сопротивление для регулировки тока (вместо 4,7k + R220), то какой оно должно быть мощности? Можно использовать подстроечный резистор 3296? If you put a trimmer resistance to adjust the current (instead of 4.7k + R220), then what power should it be? Can a 3296 Trimming Potentiometer be used?
ua-cam.com/video/nvlOeDHkwK0/v-deo.html
Check out this video, with adjustable cutoff for any battery, with feedback from battery for precise cutoff.
Input voltage should be set cutoff voltage on output + input to output drop voltage.
Good job , how can i use this circuit if i need to use with 10 batteries connected in parallel and one battery is 2600 mah thanks
Yes you can connect all batteries in parallel and use input 5v 2-3 A
Hello and thank you very much for your video, very useful. A question, what modification in the circuit should I do if my battery is 1.5 volts? Greetings
1.5v Ni-Cd need different circuit as mosfet will not able to switch in low voltages
@@CreativeTechos of course, my question is what values have will for 1.5 volts?
I'll try to upload video for 1.5v ASAP
@@CreativeTechosthank you very much sir. , I am subscribed so I will receive the alert. Greetings

Hi , I want it to cut off at 3.7v , Which resistor do I have to change? (Without variable resistor)
Thanks You very much!
Can't without variable resistor
Hello ! Interesting and practical. But I have a question;
Can it be used for a 3.7V battery in parallel (11Amp)?. I saw the 5v/1Amp source.
Thanks
Good 👍
Thankyou
Какое минимальное и максимальное входное напряжение для схемы?
1. What is the minimum and maximum input voltage for the circuit?
2. How many watts are the resistors?
3. If you put a tuning resistor to adjust the current (instead of 4.7k + R220), what power should it be? Can I use the 3296 trimmer potentiometer?
Current circuit diagram is calibrated for 5v input.
And insted of 4.7k + 220R resistors you can use multiturn 10k potentiometer to setup the cutoff threshold.
Hi, if i want to change the output voltage, which resistor value should i change in ur circuit diagram?
You can use voltage max to 12v but instead of 4.7K + 220R at left bottom in diagram, use variable resistor and adjust Cut Off point as per your requirement.
@@CreativeTechos hi, if i use input voltage of 5V but 20 amps Power Supply Unit, would it be safe since ur cicuit will just draw 1 amp right?
Good evening I saw your post about the 3.7 volt battery I have a 21 volt battery(5 battery 3.7=4.2vx5=21v) Can you tell me what resistors I need to change to make it work Thank you very much
I assembled exactly as in the downloaded scheme.
1. The green diode is off.
2. When the battery is connected, the red diode does not light up.
3. The voltage supplied to the battery is 5 volts.
4. The voltage does not change with a variable resistor (replaced 4.7k + 220 ohms with a 10k variable resistor).
Is the circuit not working or do I need to fix something?
I will be grateful for help. Thank you.
Sorry to hear this, but make sure TL431 ic is worky & mosfet too, also trim pot will not change voltage, you just need to connect variable power supply and set voltage to suppose cutoff at 4.2v, then move the trimpot till green led turns on, Then your circuit is calibrated to cutoff output when it is reach 4.2v, Connect battery first, then plugin the charger, you'll see Red led on, Afterl full charge green will turn on.
Nice!!
Thankyou
Hi, What changes do I have to make in this circuit in order to charge a 9V NiCD battery?
Check out this video ua-cam.com/video/nvlOeDHkwK0/v-deo.html
This circuit is adjustable auto cutoff for 9-18v batteries with feedback.
hello bro nice project congratulations can you do this for 12 volt adapter and 12 volt battery in the same project.
Sorry I didn't got you, please explain what you want to say.
@@CreativeTechos i mean i want to charge a 12 volt battery with a standard 12 volt adapter and when the battery is charged this circuit will automatically stop charging
Yes, when your battery is full, it will stop charging to battery. You can check new improved version of this circuit with precise & adjustable cutoff. For lithium ion batteries each cell needs 4.2v multiplied by number of cells in series needed to be set as cutoff voltage, Video link ua-cam.com/video/nvlOeDHkwK0/v-deo.html
Does that mosfet need heatsink?
Yes if connected with 2-5 cellsin parallel,
🎉🎉👌nice useful project. 👍
Thankyou
Even the battery voltage is 4.2 but The green LED is not coming ON.
What will be the issue??
There may be input voltage variation, correct it by using 10k multi turn (Bourns 3296) potentiometer instead of 4.7k+220R resistors connected in parallel from TL431 pin 1 to ground, and you'll be able to set more precise cutoff at voltage by your choice
Thanks for your response.i will try it.👍
My pleasure 🙂
