You said we need to officialize a marriage so that someone can't just up and leave etc. So that we have to deal with the ups and downs of relationships. I.e. go through the Western legal process. Why isn't traditional marriage sufficient?? Our ancestors did fine without the Western system. The marriage did just fine without expensive diamonds being involved. A lot of people start their marriages with debt and never recover because of that system. In America, where I live, people tend to overprize things to capitalize on emotions and social pressure. I imagine the same happens everywhere. Why put ourselves through that? And what is worse is that we adopted a balanced practice, but left out key elements. In a white wedding, the bride's father pays for everything, because it's all about the wife. They don't put it on the husband, it's not a crime to fall in love. In Africa, the man pays the bride price, which is not there in the West, pays for the expensive engagement ring, and then pays for the wedding ceremony. Aren't we overdoing it?? At least in the past women owed you obedience, nowadays we are more equal, shouldn't we also revise these systems? I'd rather keep traditional and be done with the borrowed Western elements.
It's not about western V traditional. It's about the substance of the matter and weight of commitment. You're on UA-cam now, it is of Western origin. Should we go back to smoke signals??
