Wow, I've always loved this song, and of course, think the music is so pretty also- but it always has seemed to overwhelm her voice, which on this song- is really amazing. Thank you for removing the music, however that is done ❤️
She starts the first 2 verses reigned in. She said her mother taught her to never start big because then you have nowhere to go but down. Sounds simple enuf but it's quite genius & Whitney wisely listened & mastered that technique. The opposite? Christina Aguilera. Her voice is a thoroughbred, she sprints right out the gate and stays there, the downside is she doesn't tell a story w/her powerhouse vocals. After the beginning of the 2 verses she morphs into what is basically operatic style singing. 75% or more of this song is pretty much straight up pop/Black gospel/opera blend and NO OTHER singer could ever do this. The way she did it in the "video" from Saratoga is pure genius and was all her. Whitney was a singing genius but doesn't get credit cuz she wasn't a songwriter or instrument player and that is completely wrong. She was a gifted virtuoso w/her voice and how she used it.
I totally agree. Some female singers had more range and were slightly better technically BUT Whitney Houston had the VOICE. Tone, headvoice, vibrato, resonance, diction and emotive ability unmatched in popular music.
Real singing is not about octaves it's about how you can tell a story and make it believable that it touches people I feel nothing with Mariah nor the Korean girl.

It can be made with computers. They channel out any music, but it's easy to tell because the voice itself is also disadvantaged sometimes somewhat.
