Good to see footage from the days when things seemed so mundane but are now distant memories.

Amazing video of Thornaby TMD, so sad to see the desolate landscape nowadays where the Depot once stood. Had many visits to TE especially because my amazing Dad worked there for 36 years as a fitter, keeping those amazing machines on the rails with his truly brilliant colleagues, Pembo, Carrie, Winter, Lamberts etc. A magnificent piece of North East Englands history. ❤

Excellent historical record; not just the traction and trains but an overview of their environs too. Thank you for sharing, sir 🙂

Great piece of history. We will never enjoy days like these again. Sadly all but a memory now. Big Thanks for sharing. 👍😎

Had a few visits to Thornaby shed back in the 70s/80s - sign of a mis-spent youth ! All gone though... The sidings are still there, but the turntable & buildings are long gone.

Visited once on a special, but always wondered what a visit on foot would look like - now I know! Great stuff!

I think Thornaby is where my mother's cousin spent most of his working life. He was an engine driver.

45041 was another lucky loco being used as a load bank at Thornaby TMD, when ideally she'd have a one way ticket to Leicester!

It sat by the load bank for ages but was never anything to do with it. I think it came for a traction motor change but needed more work so was withdrawn. I seem to recall it being a victim of metal fairies

Yard speeds were pretty brisk back then.

Interesting to see the 1 car 156 as I can't remember every seeing them run singlely in the north east, usually 2 or if you are very lucky 4.Guessing a Bishop Aukland to Saltburn rather than a Newcastle to Middlesbrough (at that point they did 2 ways;via Hartlepool and also via Durham on the ECML to Darlington).

      It is a 153 not 156

The NE was a much better place when there was real work to be done. Not much of that in evidence now.
