A beautiful rendition of the Catholic Litany of the Saints. This arrangement is perfect for the Rite of Baptism within the Easter Vigil. May all holy men and women intercede for us.
Full respect for Protestants because they are Christian in the end but I don’t understand how anyone would choose a rock concert and symbolic Communion over beautiful masses and more I don’t get how we are “idol worshippers” for thinking Mary is our sinless mother and she can pray for us
We sang this with my sister Teresa during the last weeks of her terminal illness. Very helpful, meaningful, and inspirational as we prepared for her passing into a new life.
John Becker was the music director at Guardian Angles Church in Oakdale, MN during the 1980's. He wrote pieces like Litany of the Saints, Come Taste and See, Lead Me Lord, & Alpha and Omega. I remember the projector screen that had John's lyrics on transparent sheets that were swapped out as the song was being played so the congregation could sing along. My sister and I heard these songs so much that eventually we didn't need to look at the projection screen as we had the lyrics memorized. She and I didn't realize it at the time, but what a treat it was every Sunday for us to watch and listen to him preform the unique pieces of music he created. I wish I could find recordings of his work that contained his own voice. If anyone has them, please post a comment. I'd love to connect and possibly obtain those.
It has been 3 days since the Easter Vigil and I still have this beautiful Litany that was sung going through my head. As I start my day, it is a great way to call on some reinforcements!!!!
When I was a sponsor of the RCIA program, that was the protocol as well. The saints chosen by the catechumens were the ones we called upon (besides Mary, Joseph, and other great ones of course).
This is so soothing to my mind during this time of confusion and sin. Helps me to pray with the saints and remember that Heaven is the prize---where sin no longer has a hold on God's people. What a merciful and loving God that we have!
This chant brings me to happy tears every time. I will miss the Easter Vigil tonight due to COVID19. Anyone who left the Catholic faith would be moved to revert upon hearing Litany of the Saints
I have to agree. I departed the church a couple decades ago I’m ashamed to say. But I am back. And now I cry at nearly every mass. And this litany just touches my heart.
This is my favorite litany of the saints song, i run it all day on my laptop. Its soothing and calming. Thank you Lord Jesus/mama Mary and to all the Saints.
Christ hear us Lord Jesus hear our Prayer. Save your people. We need you Jesus. Our church leaders have abandoned us!! Send your Holy Spirit to your faithful.
This is a powerful prayer. POWERFUL! They actually hear us and respond. See thru the eyes of faith. Faith can move mountains. Praise be Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ now and forever! I love you Lord! Your beloved Nancy
My favorite at every All Saints Mass. Gives me chills. At my Catholic school, we would write down people who had died and our music minister woudl end it with the names in the chant.

I have these words to say, and that is that all of these holy people can kiss my fuckin ass, and that the Lord Jesus Christ who is the Son of Almighty God The Father, and creator of all living creatures, and the universe can kiss my fuckin ass for my love of the whales, the porpoises, and the dolphins that live in the seas, as well as all of the other exotic life that lives in the seas. I want people to know it is so important that I attack the Lord Jesus Christ for what I have involving my geographical surroundings, because trying to live more like Jesus Christ did will not change my geographical surroundings, and yes I do mean exactly what I am saying involving having direct access to the open sea, for I love so greatly that lives in salt water!

this litany reminds me of Saint John Paul 2. I'm sure future renditions will include him as well. The Church evolves sanctimoniously but will never change her doctrine. Its ok to have different versions of the songs of the faithful as long as they are doctrinal correct. This version is beautiful.

Is there a problem? My boyfriend, a dyed in the Protestant, would tell me the problem with Catholics and Orthodox Christians is we have too many Saints...LOL And I tell him, at this day and age we need all the help we can get these days, on Earth as well as in Heaven. And when I'm feeling down in the dumps or have a fear of failure or success, he'll turn back around and say to me, "Don't you know you have a huge cheering session and Amen corner pulling for you, no matter what? And if you happen to stumble and fall, they're always there to pull you back up, patch your booboos and tell you to carry on and keep up the good work...Progress is nothing but a path, not a destination!" As St Maximillian Kolbe once said, "All progress is spiritual...or it's not progress!"
I totally agree! Remember what God told Abraham, "Count all the stars in the heavens as many as you can...this will determine the number of your descendants!" And when John wrote the Revelation, he described a massive multitude of the Faithful gathering after the Great Tribulation, clad in white robes, adoring the Lamb with many anthems and hymns of praise, "Worthy is the Lamb that was once slain!" I had the privilege of seeing this painting by Van Eyck in complete detail and i must say, it pales in comparison to what awaits us soon. If only our misled 'fundie' types knew what they're missing!
Origen Controversy - Wikipedia A commercially published setting of the Litany of Saints by John Becker[12] includes the name of Origen among its additional saints. Although recognized[13] by Pope Benedict XVI as a significant theologian, Origen is not listed in the Roman Martyrology[14] and was anathematized in the year 553 for certain opinions he was alleged to have held.[15] Origen's inclusion in a published litany, albeit without the official sanction of Catholic authorities, has resulted in vigorous comment in the blogosphere.[16] Litany of Saints at OCP Publishing - with preview[permanent dead link] of some of the text available. General Audience of 25 April 2007 - Origen's Life and Work; General Audience Address of 2 May 2007 - Origen's Thought; both accessed 28 October 2012 Martyrologium Romanum, 2004, Vatican Press (Typis Vaticanis) Medieval Sourcebook: Fifth Ecumenical Council: Constantinople II, 553 Origen in Litany of Saints - thread on Catholic Answers Forum accessed 28 October 2012; Litany of Saints - thread on Musica Sacra Forum accessed 28 October 2012; Origen - Litany of the Saints? - thread on Defenders of the Catholic Faith Forum accessed 28 October 2012
+Anita Simpson _"Is it really necessary to take sides?"_ That's what religions do. If there was something like a god, then it would be more offended by religions then by atheism - which is the absence of any religious ideology.
+Anita Simpson I completely agree, Anita. Different approaches will help different people welcome God into their hearts. We are not the same, and I can't imagine God expects the same method of worship to work for all of us. We might as well argue over what's the best color as which rendition of the litany is most beautiful and meaningful.
Litany of the Saints found in the Roman Gradual 1974 (meaning the Traditional Form) is better. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal, the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy and other Liturgical Documents says that THE GREGORIAN CHANT HOLDS THE PRIMARY PRIDE FOR THE USE OF ROMAN RITE. That's what the Vatican II said. STILL GREGORIAN CHANTS, either in Latin or set in the Vernacular, such found in the current Musical Notation found in the Roman Missal.
Gorgeous litany. In fact, probably the best out of the ones I've heard so far. Although the church has Sinfully become soft with liberalism and universalist acceptance... shame.
for Francis who dislikes this beautiful reverent rendition: The first mass, the Last Supper was in the vernacular of Aramaic not Latin the language of the Romans who conquered the Jews. Our Lord did not have His back turned to those present. No art of the Last Supper would dare portray this fallacy. No Jesus faced them in the midst of them. Vatican II called for liturgical return to the earliest vernacular. The only original Eucharistic Rite that does this is the Eastern Church Maronite Rite who never separated from the Western Roman Church and has had the approval of aal the pipes for 2000 years to pray in their vernacular of Aramaic. There is one vine. Christ but many beautiful liturgical branches in the Church's liturgical, historical, traditional treasure chest. In the Holy Spirit's gift of Love, try to understand those of God's children who pray with love and joy and reverently sing Becker's litany. Many do not know Latin and do not understand what they are praying when they use it. Full active participation in the Liturgy and private prayer calls for the Holy Spirit's gift of understanding. I write as one who has studied Latin for 5 years and as a doctoral theologian but I would never force my love for Latin on any one.
But see now you are taking sides too. It is true that our Blessed Lord did face the Apostles and spoke in Aramaic, but that is not a reason to try to bash the traditional Roman Rite. Because Pius V also said the Tridentine Mass should be the only form of Mass offered in the Roman Rite. Read the Quo Primum.
+Jewel Brennan Thanks for your excellent remarks. I find that the more I learn about the early Church, the more I appreciate the return of the Mass to the vernacular.
Please, if possible could you direct me to a site where i may purchase this wonderful rendition of the Litany of the saints, realizing that this is Saturday and our vigil is happening soon, i will make sure this piece gets introduced into our 2015 program. tyvm

Thank you Nancy, the world definitely needs prayers.
You are absolutely right
God Bless! Praying for you and your family!
My favorite at every All Saints Mass. Gives me chills. At my Catholic school, we would write down people who had died and our music minister woudl end it with the names in the chant.
I'd have no problem with that with one caveat:
It would have to be done in this format: "Lord, have mercy on x, y, and z; x, y, and z pray for us."
Actually, this one's from an Easter Vigil. You can tell by the reference to catechumens about to be baptized.
@@andrewpatton5114 That was the first time I ever heard this song, the first time I was an RCIA sponsor, before they were baptized.

Don't worry, the desease called "religion" is curable.
+Khristian james Calderon It's almost amazing how powerful a hymn or chant can be, isn't it?

Pretty sure verse 5 is "from everlasting death" not "damn"
Danke Shoen, from German American
It's Cosmas and Damian not "Cosmos and Damien"
I don’t think it says Origen because he’s not considered a saint by the church.

I think you meant sacrally or in traditions...
Sanctimonious is a derogatory word roughly akin to "pharisaical."

I had the privilege of seeing this painting by Van Eyck in complete detail and i must say, it pales in comparison to what awaits us soon. If only our misled 'fundie' types knew what they're missing!

Origen Controversy - Wikipedia
A commercially published setting of the Litany of Saints by John Becker[12] includes the name of Origen among its additional saints. Although recognized[13] by Pope Benedict XVI as a significant theologian, Origen is not listed in the Roman Martyrology[14] and was anathematized in the year 553 for certain opinions he was alleged to have held.[15] Origen's inclusion in a published litany, albeit without the official sanction of Catholic authorities, has resulted in vigorous comment in the blogosphere.[16]

This litany is so inspiring to me. I also enjoy the Gregorian version. Is it really necessary to take sides?

_"Is it really necessary to take sides?"_
That's what religions do.

@dorianmodify It's not just his opinion tho. The second Vatican Council explicitly states that Gregorian chant is supposed to hold pride of place.
Gorgeous litany. In fact, probably the best out of the ones I've heard so far.
Although the church has Sinfully become soft with liberalism and universalist acceptance... shame.
Amen ❤
What's the name of the second angel he called along with Michael?
for Francis who dislikes this beautiful reverent rendition: The first mass, the Last Supper was in the vernacular of Aramaic not Latin the language of the Romans who conquered the Jews.
You taught this very old Catholic something. Thanks:)

Why is Origen included in this Litany when he isn't canonized?
Wasn’t he also condemned as a heretic? When I heard his name here I was confused.
Please, if possible could you direct me to a site where i may purchase this wonderful rendition of the Litany of the saints, realizing that this is Saturday and our vigil is happening soon, i will make sure this piece gets introduced into our 2015 program. tyvm

Why is Origin in the lituny of the saints he not a saint?
HE IS A SAINT!!
@@Lezith456 no he isn't.
Because although no longer considered a Saint of the Church, he is a Church Father and a Martyr.
Wt is the story of st.becker how he became saint?
Origen in the litany of the saints? He is not a saint of the Catholic Church because of certain heretical beliefs.
@Dominic Sedevactism has nothing to do with Origen and you're showing your ignorance saying otherwise.
