I just want to see one of the Senators on the Judiciary Committee read these piquant quotes at the confirmation hearing and laugh their a$$ off. Is that really too much to ask?
The NY Times said Cannon’s justification was that, “She asserted jurisdiction in the issue because the release of the report could affect the cases of Mr. Nauta and Mr. De Oliveira.” Is there any validity to that assertion? My intuition would be that she should have considered that _before_ dismissing the case, and now any influence it may have on these other cases is essentially fair game. That said, I’m not a lawyer, I would like to know more about this aspect of her thinly veiled attempts to protect her benefactor.
I honestly wonder if TikTok went down for a month, if users would really flock back when the app was reinstated. So much of a... Habit, is about the routine. Once it's broken, any number of things can happen, including the habit simply breaking.
Please explain to me if Cannon has no jurisdiction why anyone isn't calling her out and why anyone has to abide by anything she says, legally. It's crazy-making. And great guest!
There’s another North Carolina circus-Bladen County and Leslie McCrae Dowless Jr.. The basics are that Dowless and his cronies were all charged with election fraud for illegal ballot stuffing. Most of them entered plea agreements for misdemeanors that carried no active prison sentences, and while Dowless rejected the plea, he died before his trial. From the Fayetteville Observer: All 10 defendants, according to indictments handed up in 2019, had a common involvement with Leslie McCrae Dowless Jr., a longtime political operative in rural Bladen County. Dowless also was indicted on more than a dozen state charges. His case scheduled last year to go to trial last month. He rejected a plea agreement and looked forward to his day in court, according to a friend. But he died in April after being diagnosed with lung cancer. Freeman said at the time that the prosecution of the other cases would continue.
No surprise, the only bonafide election fraud on the record has nothing to do with immigrants, voter’s ID (or lack thereof), and everything to do with corrupt Republicans.
Iow’s, Jefferson “Davis” Griffin is challenging a 6-3 NC Republican Supreme Court majority? A tad hubristic maybe? Alito’s wife is designing a middle finger flag.
I'll keep harping on this: why was the US government so easily able to force the sale of Grindr away from Chinese investors but TikTok is so different?
My understanding is that the TikTok ban will only remove it from the app stores, but if you already have it downloaded, then you’ll continue to be able to use it.
Except, depending on the fines and enforcement provisions in the law, Oracle may choose to stop hosting TikTok on its servers, in which case the app will go dark. Even if Oracle continues hosting it, you won’t be able to update the app, so it will become ever more buggy and may stop functioning that way. And VPNs don’t allow you to create accounts with foreign App Stores (which is actually quite difficult), so that’s not a feasible option to stay updated.
It occurs to me that many of these decisions depend on something that might happen. It's true that I might run a stop sign today, but it's probably too early to write that ticket.
I admire and deeply enjoy the vision, thinking processes, and analysis presented in this podcast. I like being reminded that good thinkers exist and are operating in this world that I'm so worried about in these sad times. About Aileen Cannon, the law is about setting boundaries and, if we should drop the boundary of what judges have power to do, and judges were to start making directives about anything they just happen to care about in the current moment, we would be faced with a hot stew of chaotic restrictions and judicial directions and, no one could possibly know what they could or could not do, what was or what was legal to do or might become legal to do or not legal to do, if some judge or other might look your way. The legislature and the current body of law would no longer matter. We would begin to need to choose what judge-king ruled in a prospective locality. What stuff and nonsense. Judge Cannon needs to be removed and tossed on the scrap heap of history, sooner rather than later.
I agree there are real problems with tiktok but all those problems apply to domestic social media. It doesnt make me feel better that tiktok being sold would allow US intelligence agencies to use it vs Chinese ones.
I have this stuck in my craw - I can not let it go! Not only does the 14th-3 amendment disqualify this worl atrocity, but there's this... Tiffany Doe claims she convinced the then-13-year-old plaintiff to attend the parties as a means to break in to New York's professional modeling world. In her declaration, Tiffany Doe says she witnessed four sexual encounters in which Jane Doe was forced to have sex with Trump, and two encounters involving the plaintiff and Jeffrey Epstein. Tiffany Doe says she witnessed four sexual encounters in which Jane Doe was forced to have sex with Trump, and two encounters involving the plaintiff and Jeffrey Epstein. Jane Does goes on to claim that after Epstein also forcibly raped her, he and Trump bickered over who should have taken the minor plaintiff's virginity. It's as though not one other person knows of this!
I agree TikTok is a danger: as soon as I saw a video of a cat dancing (to metal), I knew I had to overthrow the US. I don't live there, but I felt immediately compelled!
Simple explanations. Complex Topics. Brilliant Humans. Thank You.
This podcast is truly excellent. My first time listening (saw Melissa on the Bulwark) and this pod is AMAZING
26:47 well that was prescient!!
Thank you for your update on Justice Allison Riggs’ certification situation. Hope your break was restful - great to have you back. Just in time….
Brilliant, as per usual. Thank you.
I just want to see one of the Senators on the Judiciary Committee read these piquant quotes at the confirmation hearing and laugh their a$$ off. Is that really too much to ask?
I'm afraid you're going to have to change your tagline to "...your podcast about the Supreme Court and the illegal culture that surrounds it."
I voted for Allison Riggs! These clowns need to go, North Carolina is already desperately undemocratic.
Class action lawsuit suit.
Sometimes I wonder why we should care about the supreme court at all. It's dead.
Thanks to M. Adams. Detroit has often been moving and grooving in history, I'm proud to be from the SE MI area * mittens up! *
A good snort a 29:53.

Thank you for the book survey; it's now next up after I finish 'The Barn'.

And great guest!
The best way to ensure the judiciary’s safety is to hear cases and make decisions that uphold the rule of law. 😊
So the 60,000 NC votes only affect that one race? No other ballot outcome would be affected by discounting that many votes?
What's Prelogar up to next?
What are the consequences of abuse of election law?

Wonderful, as always
How can we help here? Not just be outraged?
There's nothing to be done. We had our opportunity in November and we blew it.
@@joink25 not me! I’m in Minnesota. More states should be like us
Alito asked Trump, “What’s with the sudden interest in qu alificstions?”
Iow’s, Jefferson “Davis” Griffin is challenging a 6-3 NC Republican Supreme Court majority? A tad hubristic maybe?
Alito’s wife is designing a middle finger flag.
tRUMP to Aleto: Please hold the dog as I wag its tail.
‘PET ferret’ also describes Stephen Miller.
Miller is technically an employee, so 'underling ferret' would be more precise than 'pet ferret'.
I'll keep harping on this: why was the US government so easily able to force the sale of Grindr away from Chinese investors but TikTok is so different?
Midwest princess!!! It's so funny and cute!
VPN sales are already skyrocketing that’s to the porn bans in the southern states.

To be fair, the diference between a website and an app is mighty thin these days. App on the phone (normally), and a website on the PC.
Wouldnt they have to throw out the ballot and recount and recertify a bunch of elections?
It seems like a lifetime or four years already hell 🥵🔥👹.
Why does it matter now that Trump is above the law and Alito couldn't care less about the law?
It occurs to me that many of these decisions depend on something that might happen.

Outraged level 10 out of 10.
Among the citizenry, hopefully outrage will eventually escalate to Spinal Tap levels.
TLDR; It's OK if you are a Republican

Felon president, Donald J Trump, vice president Elon Musk, or First Lady whichever one she pick

How is tik tok access to US citizens than Chinese manufactured Tesla cars that keep a record of the vehicle's activity any different?
Your LONG, front-loaded commercials were so disgusting, I stopped listening.
Try firefox
"Caught"
The country would be much better if all 3 of these women were in prison.
