I saw the Robert Palmer album Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley, and that record is worth something. Robert Palmer's backing band on that record was Little Feat. That's a damn good album.
I'm glad you was able to go back and find it. I think the smart move would have been to buy it all and put it in storage unit and to go through it at your own pace. I'm sure you missed some gems, like the Sly & The Family Stone's you passed up.
With the greatest respect to you , you need to know in your head what your strengths and weaknesses are with the myriad of genres out there and often it costs to learn. This was my revelation and costly lack of knowledge I was opening my first bricks n’ mortar second hand record shop and was in desperate need of stock , a guy comes in and tells me his grandad had died and he was cleaning out his bungalow and would I like to look at his records before he skipped them all (dumpster to you) I turned up and found a near empty house but with rows and rows of classical records sat on the carpet and leaning up against the wall, probably 1000+. My heart sank as I thought to myself “but there’s no money in classical stuff , no one wants them”, and told the guy exactly that. To save myself a wasted trip I picked up a random armful of about 20 and paid him £20 just for some stock in case somebody wanted them for £3 apiece or so. I then helped the guy finish off cleaning the house and helped him throw them all in the skip outside his house , done and dusted ,there was no money in classical ...right? A few weeks later a customer walks into the shop and picks up the entire 20 that I had bought and asked for a deal on them , I threw it back to him and asked what he wanted to pay , I was expecting about £30 , but he offered £80 and I snatched his hand off for the £80.... All this was about 22 years ago , I was only just getting a computer , EBay was only 2 years old , Google didn’t exist and I didn’t know what I was doing with computers anyway. To cut a long story short within a year or two I realised how wrong I was in there being “no money in classical” and every time I think back to all the “ASD , SXL , SAX” etc pressings I help him to throw away I bang my head on a sharp corner with my stupidity. Moral of the story is that “you don’t know what you don’t know” but it’s your job to educate yourself into knowing, and stop chasing after 2-a-penny Multi million selling Ozzy Osbourne albums as your goal.

Every private press lp is worth further investigation. The majority are terrible and worthless but there's plenty with great musical value/financial value. Happy to see you find it again and that you're keeping it. That would never leave my collection.

I've learned this lesson the hard way. I was at a flea market a few years ago and I was going through a box of 45s. It was 100 degrees and I had already been digging for a couple of hours so I was beat. Took a couple of the records but passed on most of it. Turns out each of those records were rare garage/psych from the area that are worth 100 dollars each or thereabouts. Must of been at least 100 I left there. Huge mistake I'll never live down! I will always err on the side of caution when it comes to stuff I've never heard of now particularly if it's local. Supply and demand!
I share your pain. During the 1st half of the 1980's, I looked through a box of 45's. I did not recognize the labels or the group names. I almost bought at least 4 - 6 NM 45's by a group that I was not familiar with "We The People". I liked garage & psych but did not grow up in Orlando and had never heard of WTP. (This is before Nuggets, etc.) It really didn't help that many of the 45's in the box were definitely children's records that appeared to be part of the same donation. ERH! I wonder how many 45's on Chancellor by other groups were also in that box. One of my 4 worst mistakes.

Well done... I saw you leave a couple of Sly and the Family Stone LPs and Ike and Tina's 'Workin Together'... Also a couple of nice soundtracks. I've learnt to pay attention to the soul and funk stuff, even better known stuff. There's a couple of Hawaiian soul LPs that go for triple figures I found in a junk box... But it's gotta be hard, you go record blind after a couple of hours... 😁

I go through similar experiences all the time because I take pictures of records I’m not sure of and will later on search for them online. Just recently realized I’d walked away from a $600 garage rock record and went back for it very nervously hoping it was still there. Always take pics! Even bette, take the time to look them up on discogs if you aren’t sure. That record totally had a look to it

as a filipino, that record would cost 2x here in the philippines. the reason is, there are literally no factories here that make records. records, cds, and tapes are worthless to companies nowadays. that's why even our local bands and artists who have lps/45s on their own, cost about a fortune. philippine records are very collectible and quite rare too. it's nice to see that album and i also love the passion of getting the record.
But the Philipines did press vinyls during the heydays right? I have several filipino pressing of western albums. They don't impress me as even 1990s vinyls were pressed on shellac not vinyl.

I noticed that you passed on a Box Tops album. I love them and Alex Chilton who was the singer. Have you ever found The Kinks - Village Green Preservation Society?
With as many records that is there. You can miss a lot of stuff. That is the kind of dig you need to do 4 or 5 times to make sure you got everything. You would have to sit there with a dumpster, and go through every record as to throw it in the trash just to make sure you didn't miss something.
Don't open that album yet! Big thumbs up to Marcus. Also don't loose any sleep if you ever encounter the same situation. Talked to many big time collectors about the lost grails and all of them have several stories to tell. I'm ashamed to admit of a $2,000.00 album that I could've bought for a buck. I mentioned about it to a professional appraiser who researched it. This was about 15 yrs. ago so imagine it's worth today!!!! You mentioned that all items would be trashed. I would make a deal and quickly rent a cube van. Man you can easily sell all those albums dirt cheap and make plently of money. Peace and keep diggin'.

Cool video man!! The thing about sealed records, especially vintage ones. They’re schrodingers frikken cat... if you dont open it.. is-it warped or not? Its both and neither, it doesn’t even exist.
Warped records aren't that difficult to fix. Put a couple of glass cookie sheets in the oven, heat, and then put the record (in the sleeve) between them and let slowly cool down.
Good finds and tips for you: That Lee Michaels, the Traffic Mr Fantasy (US release only), that 45rpm RCA model 45-EY record player is a classic and should be sold to someone who'll restore it - DO NOT power it up. Clean it up a bit and ebay it, that Roy Orbison LP, the Simple Minds. EDIT: You should leave the records in some decent orderly fashion so that you can go thru them again more easily if you ever go back, instead of just throwing them around - just sayin'.

Pretty simple actually. Popular records were usually mass produced. There exist a lot of records that later on became popular after they’ve been long oop. Some were just praised in psyche magazines or what have you, and demand for them increased .
smith did a song off easy rider but son meone else did it the soundtrack for contractual reasons, thats all i know about them , quite enjoyed this one.

I've made a similar mistake before digging through a record store and had Selena Y Los Dinos "Alpha" in my hands. I put it back as they had it for $100. If only I knew how much it actually goes for.
You probably should have grabbed Herb Alpert - Whipped Cream And Other Delights - if in good condition and an early pressing that's a cool collector record. Not a thousand dollar piece but a good one to have. And if sealed.....?

Must be a private pressing like The Shaggs “Philosophy Of The World” Which has recently had a re pressing done by light in the attic! They should re release this! Don’t worry though if they do it won’t ever devaluate the original, as it so bugger all in the first place it will still be rare! But the reissue will service everyone else who couldn’t get this original!!!!

Cool video man!! The thing about sealed records, especially vintage ones. They’re schrodingers frikken cat... if you dont open it.. is-it warped or not? Its both and neither, it doesn’t even exist.

Warped records aren't that difficult to fix. Put a couple of glass cookie sheets in the oven, heat, and then put the record (in the sleeve) between them and let slowly cool down.

Good finds and tips for you:
That Lee Michaels, the Traffic Mr Fantasy (US release only), that 45rpm RCA model 45-EY record player is a classic and should be sold to someone who'll restore it - DO NOT power it up. Clean it up a bit and ebay it, that Roy Orbison LP, the Simple Minds. EDIT: You should leave the records in some decent orderly fashion so that you can go thru them again more easily if you ever go back, instead of just throwing them around - just sayin'.

@@BacktotheMedia I just edited the comment about that RCA 45 player - it's a classic RCA 45EY, clean it up gently, DO NOT power it up, and get it into the hands of a competent restorer, or ebay it. Thanks for the interesting vid!
You also should carry a crate with you that holds records and you can fill the crate with records so that you can just flip through them quickly
This was all last minute, we ended up buying the entire trailer so nothing was left behind 🤗

Exactly right! After digging through so many duds they all start to blend together and so easy to overlook such a gem!
Pretty simple actually. Popular records were usually mass produced. There exist a lot of records that later on became popular after they’ve been long oop. Some were just praised in psyche magazines or what have you, and demand for them increased .

meone else did it the soundtrack for contractual reasons, thats all i know about them , quite enjoyed this one.
Actually, it's the other way around. The Weight, by The Band is in the movie, but the cover by Smith is on the soundtrack.

I've made a similar mistake before digging through a record store and had Selena Y Los Dinos "Alpha" in my hands. I put it back as they had it for $100. If only I knew how much it actually goes for.

Must be a private pressing like The Shaggs “Philosophy Of The World” Which has recently had a re pressing done by light in the attic! They should re release this! Don’t worry though if they do it won’t ever devaluate the original, as it so bugger all in the first place it will still be rare! But the reissue will service everyone else who couldn’t get this original!!!!
