When I listened to it back in the early 90s, Peng! had a big impact on me, because I was lacking all those reference points you now have with what happened inbetween then and now. This monotonous approach you call "one note" is a minimalist approach which NEU! and CAN also pursued (the latter only sometimes). But the droning keyboards and bleeps and bloobs was total alien to me... never listened to Silver Apples or other influential bands in that same vein before. Now I have. Because Peng! is one of those records I dug as a student, it will always stay with me. Though, I like "Emporer Tomato Ketchup" best. Thanks for doing them anyways. Will stay tuned.
It's good that you listen to stereolab, I didn't imagine that would happen but I wanted it. Beyond rock and electronics, the main element is freedom of musical expression, perfection made to destroy itself in seemingly repetitive improvisation and infinite mantric. This group has the prolific ability to make everything look the same and yet everything is subtly different and unique. You will notice its growth and diversification album after album. With a funk sound and bossa nova tints, they enter almost jazz grounds, but within a sixties and French loung environment where they are necessarily associated with modern rock. For me it's simpler, a hyper original pop group with high levels of analog creativity and exceptional quality. I would recommend that you continue with “Transient Random-Noise Bursts With Announcements” and end with “Margerine Eclipse” you can avoid “The First Of The Microbe Hunters” along the way if you wish.
BTW, do keep on with Stereolab. One if the finest discographies ever. This debut might not be your cup of tea (even though I love repetition that becomes conceptualism), but they get so much more interesting. Their true masterpiece is Dots and Loops.
and if you were to add on any you should to Refined Ectoplasm (switched on 2), or Aluminum Tunes switched on 2 is a better representation to their early sound rather than the dull album Peng.
I didn’t like this album the first time I never heard it; I still feel the same upon first listen. Pole albums aside, when are you going to start doing Norse albums?
just clarifying you don’t have to listen to the bonus content, it’s just that the remasters restore a lot of the songs to their original lengths and sound better in general. one of the songs on mars audiac just straight up cuts in the middle on the standard version, but is restored on the remaster

i think he should go to the very end (chemical chords... maybe not not music)
He's also a huge Trump and Proud Boys fan, believe it or not. Massive shame.

To me the highlights of the album are the less guitar driven, synthy songs like "Super Falling Star" and "K-Stars"
