- Checking out the Vintage Horns library for Kontakt from Big Fish Audio and Funk Soul Productions. If you like warm, gritty, organic sounding horns, flutes, and horn sections, this is definitely something to take a look at.

Yeah I totally agree, I recommend them all the time, they sound amazing if you want the most realistic sounding brass/solo instruments that aren't "orchestral" in sound. Thanks for watching!
The flute sounds are extremely usable. Ill have to check this out. Thanks for the review
Thank you for the demo/information. Good review.
JTAsoundz Thanks for watching!
the flute is my favorite part of the library, thanks for watching
thanks for checking it out fam!
word, I feel ya, flute is my fave in this library
Thanks for the review. Been looking at this for awhile (for Reason as that's what I use), but other than the BFA site been having a hard time finding much in the way of user feedback. So thanks for the overview.
no problem, glad to help!
Nice man, congrats!
Thanks for the review Joe. Not being a Kontakt user, I'm insterested to know if there's any disadvantage at all in NOT running the full Kontakt, and only hosting this in the free version. Thanks!
Cool video review, I wish I had your Kontakt library lol.
Great review St. Joe. The library in my opinion has its pluses and minuses. Overall I heard three great sounding patches during your review that I would use in some of my projects. The flute patches sound great and they have that jazzy vintage feel. The muted trumpet is my favorite and would work great for a lot of my smooth jazz pieces. Finally, the flugelhorn has potential with a bit of processing (perhaps adjusting the attack and reverb settings).
Thanks for watching!
word, thanks for checking it out, that's why I do this, so you know when to skip or not :)
Very nice run-through, thanks! Question: have you heard the Reason refill of this library? - if you have, do you think it sounds just as good?
+akinderreality Thanks for watching. Not a Reason user so I haven't messed with that version.
Today in really feeling good about myself, I finally won something in my whole life, I won “Vintage Horns” library for Kontakt Native Instruments Maschine, from big fish audio Thanks A Million Big Fish Audio, Thanks A One in a Million Saint Joe From Sounds And Gear
Yeah I know about them, the best around imo!
Thank you Saint Joe! Do those instruments/sections have any articulations like crescendo, staccato, swells, etc?
yeah it's a got a few articulations you can use via keyswitching
Hey man, you should give samplemodeling a google, since they've got a pretty sweet line up of reeds and brass over there, it's on a whole other level!
word man, I feel you
no problem fam
nah, it works the same, full version just lets you go inside the instrument and tweak behind the front panel or open kontakt libraries that aren't made for kontakt player
Btw, don't know if it's true for other versions, but the Refill version is listed at $199 on the BFA site, but on Propellerhead's site it's $99.
I thought it was 99 myself, but didn't really look into it a sI don't use Reason
Yo If you haven’t already I want to hear a beat from you using the vintage collection.
Thanks for watching, I don't really post beat videos though.
When was this released?
Nice. I'm going to have a shop around for any deals then..... Thank you.
nice review...I would have to say the best sax, trumpet and trombone I have ever heard in virtual instruments is from Sample Modeling. Check them out if you haven't I think you will like them Saint Joe since you like more organic instruments. Take care!
They have to do a vintage string section next!!!!!
I totally agree!
different articulations like flutters, shorter notes, etc
thank you
The flute & trumpet sounds are nice. The saxophones sound a bit sharp, perhaps adjust the attack & decay a bit for a better feel.
What do the keyswitches trigger?
will skip this one but looking forward to a vintage orchestra and or vintage electronic focusing on keys, mellotrons and synths of those eras.
Please don't change all the midi channels so that one note triggers all sounds. Don't reinforce a bad thing. You immediately limit yourself to creative possibilities and any flexibility. And if you want to add some harmony, you're shot. It's very easy to create a line using one sound and copy it to another track(s) of your horn section. Same results, better flexibility.
Does this library have round-robin staccatos? Does it have legato patches?
Thanks for the comment, but not everyone works the way you speak, different ways of working, just depends on what you're trying to do. For me it was much quicker to change the midi channels to show the sound in the video. As for what's in the library it's more aimed at the section style of instruments, there are staccatos but I'm not sure if they are round robin or not, wasn't specifically mentioned in the product info.
please use some more of the sharps and flats in your demos, i like your demos but everything you play is in C major/A minor and it's hard on the ears!
Sorry, but that's how I play and demo products. Never claimed to be the best keyboard player ;)
Pretty Nice!
thanks for watching
Do I need KONTAKT to use this as a plug-in..?
Yeah, it's a Kontakt library.
no problem
Man this is exactly what I need for Kontakt. The price is steep though.
hi ,thanks for the video, how do I load this in fl studio ?
\
Load Kontakt as a plugin in FL Studio.
How does this compare to Chris Hein Horns Compact library?
I wanna make big band swing music and i am looking for a good horn library. Any recommendations?
I don't wanna spend more than 200 dollars.
This is more of a vintage/soulful vibe, CH definitely has a big band feel to it. You may also want to checkout broadway lites.
Thanks. broadway lites lookes really good. can you make the same articulations in CH? I am not sure articulations is the right word as english is my second language but i mean changes in the pitch and stuff like that.
SoundsAndGear.com and what about session horns from NI either the normal or the pro version. the broadway is a bit over budget.
Tytteboevsen I haven't used broadway lites myself but I know it sounds great. Session Horns is cool also, not really big band sound though. Probably CHH or Broadway lites is closer to that sound in my opinion.
SoundsAndGear.com Thanks. your opinion matters. I am new to the whole music making thingy and your advice is apreciated :)
How is it possible to test out a trombone without playing let me clear my throat???
3:48 best sax sounds
thanks for watching
I hate demos or reviews where there's more talk than actually hearing the sounds. This one isn't bad but I thought for a product named Vintage Horns too much time was spent talking about a woodwind (the flute). Great that it's included but I wanted to hear more of the horn sounds, especially horn section sounds.
Thanks for watching! They have demos on the site, I personally like flute sounds so...yeah lol.
Maybe a month or so ago
Good run through. Not sold at all though. Thanks!
+Mattydigs Thanks for watching
are there any brass things that aren't kontakt
+ThatOneGuy8199 WIVI, IK Multimedia, Garritan, East West, Vienna Symphonic Library, etc.
thank you! i'm too broke for that Kontakt life lol
+ThatOneGuy8199 Just depends on what you're looking for fam lol, some don't require you to own the full version, if you get player libraries they work with the free kontakt player :)
i didn't even know there was a free kontakt player lol
+ThatOneGuy8199 Yes indeed :)
Can i use this in reason?
If you can load Kontakt in Reason it should work
Does this work in Reason?
Yeah, it runs in Kontakt, which you can open as a plugin in Reason.
great thanks
Thanks for watching
cool......So what are your favorite horns for classic rock ala Parliment, Chicago, Tower of Power?? Thanks again
I don't have any, just whatever I'm feeling at the time. I don't play covers or anything like that, so specific group styles isn't something I pay attention to.
I guess the refill they made for Reason doesn't sound nearly as good. The sounds I'm hearing on this video are phenomenal. The user rating for this refill on there site gets only 1 star out of 5??? I can't imagine why if it sounds like this.
Maybe they misunderstood the purpose? I dunno, it sounds cool though imo :)
I want to get this only for the flute
K3WRO I love the flute myself man lol.
I agree the flutes are jamming
Bashanvibe I love the flutes too
Yeah, it's not an orchestral/symphonic library, more funk and soul, thanks for watching!
Is this software instrument a mono type like a moog sound usually sounding in mono.....Not in chords. I never heard you play a single CHORD !!!
Well, these types of instruments are mono by nature, you don't really play chords on sax, flute, etc.
SoundsAndGear.com I think I know what he means. Of course you can't play a chord on one sax or trumpet. However every single jazz (not just jazz; it's an example) song that has more than trumpet plays chords with the trumpets together. One plays the tonic, another plays the third etc.
OH GOD WHY IS EVERYTHING FOR HORNS IN FREAKIN KONTAKT!?!?
Kontakt is an industry standard sampler, there are others out there just not as many as on the Kontakt platform
@@SoundsAndGear give it a rest. everything is an "industry standard"
we are making music using 1s and 0's
Sound quality stopped mattering, and most certainly which program you use to make a friggin rap beat no longer matters. If you dont know why everyone panders to this program, then just say such.
@@themtb2003 Give what a rest? You asked a question on MY video, I gave you an answer. Maybe you don't know what industry standard actually means? I didn't mention sound at all, I really don't care, but anyone that deals with this stuff knows Kontakt is an industry standard sampler format, that's why there are so many developers making libraries for it. Peace.
Wow those horns sound terrible. They've not been sampled chromatically...its like a cheap Rompler from the 90ies
Marc-olivier Johnson Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, thanks for the comment.
Marc-olivier Johnson Do you play horns? Just a question.
no but i can clearly hear the pitch-shifting of samples. if it was sampled chromaticallly i would have a better opinion about it. today with gigs and gigs of ram there is no reason to not sample note per not with rond-robin and velocity layers T.R.E.Y TREY
i'm not convinced at all ! it's not better than chris hein, that's not good ! so....
le veilleur non silencieux Different sound than CH, meant to sound more dirty/vintage. Thanks for watching.
I have this and I have to say... Not impressed!
Cool, thanks for watching.
vex why? Explain
@@thomashall4181 yeah, i'd like to hear why as well
