I dig how Courtney's chill take on running still wins her podium. Coach? Just her husband, who is more of a pacer. Fav nutrition? Beer and nachos. Fav gear? Basketball shorts and Salomon t-shirts. Watch? Something that says what time it is. Training plan? I feel like running at that one place today, maybe this far.
I don't give a damn about pain I've had chronic pain most of my life and a really hard life so I've had to live with non-stop pain for so long I easily just run to the point my legs stop responding and I collapse. My last ultra-marathon after 4 hours my legs felt like dead-weight, after 5 hours I was hallucinating, after 6 hours I was in mild but increasing pain, after 7 hours every single step was a world of pain. At some point my legs will just physically refuse to go further, like they will spasm and so on, and I won't be able to do anything but limp around dragging whichever leg fails first. However it takes longer and longer to reach that point and I run with a greater intensity too now than ever.
The great thing about the pain cave is that it's often only temporary. "It never always gets worse. " Our first world modern lives are so full of comfort and convenience, despite our constant complaining, that it's a humbling, almost spiritual experience to CHOOSE to put yourself through a painful, difficult, sometimes miserable experience, and work our way through to the other side. It puts the rest of our life troubles into perspective and gives a new strength of mind knowing that no matter how bad something might be, you WILL come out the other side.
ffs I hate that there are women who can run further than me and lift more than me, I should at the minimum be stronger and have more endurance the best women in the world, yet the bar has been set so incredibly high for being able to say "I'm stronger than the strongest women in the world" or "I can run further than the longest-distant runner woman in the world". How the fuck are women so powerful?
Fantastic job, Rapha! Thank you for making this video. Courtney is *definitely* one of the very few whom I would look to for inspiration and advice.
Thank you! And yes there is a lot we can learn from her!
Feeling-based Training. Game changer!
Yess sir!
Basic common sense, yeah?
I've been doing this since forever just testing things out on me and adjusting the variables as needed based around what I'm planning on doing.
Hey thank you for making it into digestible short video! Helpful and inspirational
Thank you 🙏
Happy running !

Totally agree
I tried the chisel in the pain cave on my last ultra. seemed to work.
Great tip on the feeling based training, easier as a pro I guess.
YEAH!
This is the bad ass type of woman I aspire to be. Not exactly like her but following her same principles. Freaking bad butt.
She is just amazing
Agreed
😅pain is actually a victory meaning you could push so far as hard as you could so you are moving forward 😊
thats her mindset indeed hahah
