  • These Platinum Century #3776 fountain pens are made of celluloid. Celluloid is a flammable, half transparent material which is made by mixing nitric-cellulose(sulfuric acid and nitric acid are added to cellulose), camphor and alcohol. When colored it is splendid. It softens at 90 degrees celcius and hardens when cooled. As it is easy to cast and carve and also produce in a variety of colors and patterns, most pen barrels were made of this material many years ago. However, as it must be dried for more than 6months to prevent deformation and twisting, it has been recognized as a difficult material. Recently, it has become popular again with those who pursue unusual antique designs.

If it just wasn't so expensive, I'd have bought the green one years ago.

Great content. But the sound is awful. The distortion and the abuse of BACH make it hard to listen to. :-( [And reading off a script doesn't really help, either, to be honest.]
