- Last track from System of a Down's 1996 demo tape. It was already on YT, but of course, it was in garbage quality, so I took it upon myself to fix that. Seriously, go compare the audio on this video to another one of the same song. All rights go to their respective holders. I don't make any money from this.
I love how groovy the drums are. Andy is a sick drummer
Yes🥺

i feel like this version is sadder than the final one and that version is much more angry
Great call
I find this version better
00:42 that sounds better than the studio version, that beat and the chorus, way better and more audible u can understand what Serj is saying
@leonidasneves7972 it being the demo version it's prolly why it sounds so much sadder because it's the very first time he's put it into a song and heard it
Andy's drumming on point
Serj is a lot more upset in this version
Holy shit, those drums are amazing.
Far better than that robotic john!
@@musico6146 🤓🤓🤓
agreed. usually i enjoy johns drumming better than a lot of andys work in the demos, but this is great
@@fiends8908 He's got a point, John's drumming feels way too tight, sometimes that's good but other times it makes a song less rich
2:53 man that scream was the best scream I've ever heard
bruuuuh thats scream was so loud that it broke sound barrier and i can't hear ot
The lack of the "WHY THE FUCK" part is weird
yeah i got used to the newer version with the scream at the end so it does catch me off gaurd
serj's vocals developed so much over the years its crazy
yeah but after 2003 it went the wrong way lol

this song is about death, and friends that die, and life that dies, and it goes like thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis
2:47 is my favorite part
"Soil" by **System of a Down**, from their 1998 self-titled debut album, is a deeply emotional and personal song that deals with themes of loss, betrayal, guilt, and death. The song was written by the band's lead singer, **Serj Tankian**, and is reportedly about a close friend who died by suicide. It captures the intense feelings of grief and confusion that follow such a tragic event.
### Key Themes and Meanings:
### 1. **Loss of a Friend to Suicide**
The most direct interpretation of "Soil" is that it reflects Serj Tankian's personal experience with the suicide of a close friend. The song conveys the shock, pain, and guilt that often accompany such a loss. Lyrics like "Why did you take him away from us?" and "The ground breaks down right under me" express the intense grief and disbelief that comes with losing someone in such a tragic way.
### 2. **Guilt and Regret**
The lyrics suggest feelings of guilt, with questions like, "Why the fuck did you take him away from us, you motherfucker?" This raw expression of anger and confusion might reflect the guilt survivors often feel after a suicide-wondering if they could have done something to prevent it or if they missed signs that their loved one was suffering.
### 3. **Betrayal and Confusion**
There’s a sense of betrayal in the song, as the speaker feels abandoned and left to deal with the aftermath of the friend's death. The line "Life is but a dream" could suggest how fragile and fleeting life feels after such a tragedy. The chorus also has a surreal quality, reflecting the speaker's inability to process what has happened.
### 4. **Cycles of Life and Death**
The imagery of soil in the song title and lyrics can be interpreted as a metaphor for the cycle of life and death. Soil represents the earth, where bodies are buried, and it could also symbolize how life returns to the earth after death. In a broader sense, it may be commenting on the inevitability of death and how we all eventually return to the soil.
### 5. **The Darkness of the World**
"Soil" also explores the darker aspects of human existence, particularly the destructive tendencies that can lead someone to take their own life. The song’s aggressive tone and chaotic structure mirror the turmoil and inner pain that can drive someone to such a drastic act.
2:34 god damn

Yeah its better but saddly it doesnt have the crazy screams in the outro
This is the original :)
Essa demo é uma das coisas mais lindas que já ouvi ..
If you could remaster Friik i would love you forever.
I didn't remaster anything. This is just an HQ rip from the original tape, and it's not even mine.
@@stardmg Oh... didn't know that.
Yah I had to report this song...it’s not long enough
Honestly I feel the drums were better back then
2:53 la cago serj al no gritar en esta parte pero entiendo que es el demo
👌👌
this version better
nah
No way
Yes
both versions are works of art developing from the transformation of painful emotions in the face of losing a friend to suicide. both are important & perfect in my mind.
