    Hello Mike
    I first saw you on UA-cam touring with Darren Alf. I found your videos very engaging then as I do now.
    Nearly 30 yrs ago about a dozen of us went all the way to North Cape in a broken down down bus. We camped for 3 weeks amongst the forests / lakes and of course the lovely mosquitos.
    I think you and Ryan make a great pair to watch and listen to. A similar attitude and sense of humour and sillyness makes for very enjoyable viewing. Keep it up please
    Anthony

    Sweden has the right idea on access to land. In parts of the world huge amounts of land is fenced off and 'private', often owned by one family who had the luck to get it for next to nothing centuries ago.
    Thanks for sharing your trip with Ryan.

    The mosquito trick i like is an unlit citronella candle in the ten right after setting up and before entering the tent i go away from the tent and run back to it to lose the devil bugs. Thanks for sharing this with us. Beautiful place.

    You two make a good pair.
    100 miles on a loaded tour bike... amazing.
    Most pro racers don't do that.

      This day was a little bit shorter than a 100 miles. But the rest of the days we did a 100. Yeah, the days are pretty long, plus you have to set off a couple of hours to film yourself. But it's all worth it in the end, when you're able to share your adventures with all of you watching!

    The distances the two of you cover are staggering. Even with Ryan's knee pain, you still covered 160KM! That's huge! I don't ride that far on a good day. Amazing to see. I look forward to next week's videos.

    Seems like you need to meet Ryan next year for RAGBRAI. You will probably think Iowa has very little mosquitoes from what I'm seeing on your journey. Uff da! I love the journey and videos you are making.

    I love that rule of being able to go on anyone's property and camp. I live in North Idaho( US) and do encourage other people to come on my 15 acres for a walk down by the lake. I like to get people in touch with nature. My only rule is you don't disturb the animals or plants. My neighbors think I am crazy.

    It's so great that you have the ability to camp out like that there. Here we have so many posted property's it's hard to find places. Another well done video. It's amazing you get as far as you do with all the filming. Take care, Al

    • @BikeTouringMike
      @BikeTouringMike  Рік тому

      Yeah, it sure adds a bit of time. But I think I picked up a couple of filming tips riding with Ryan. He's a lot quicker than I setting up shots. I often stop and set up these ride by shots that take a lot of time. Don't get me wrong, the make for great video, but usually 5 seconds of video can take me about 10 minutes to film. Thanks Al!

    Mike. Thanks again for answering my inquiry earlier regarding the bikepacking bike you’re using.
    Question: How would you rate the Unit X as a flat bar gravel bike, even when not bikepacking?
    Thanks Sir and I’m excited to see your next video.

      No way, that is one of my favorites as well. Maybe a little more wine and our adventure would be complete. Well, I'm going to France for my next one, so I hope to go visit a lot of great vineyards soon. And remember: If anyone orders Merlot, I'm leaving ;-)

    eating healthy: Check out Keto for men. Good eating for cycling; (snacks) nuts, dark chocolate, trail mixes, bananas, apples, peanut butter, knorr food packets are good for camping, then there are the idahoan mash potatoes, tuna packet variations, sardines, herring, (canned fish), bagels,...there are tons of foods that are healthier options besides all the PROCESSED SUGARS (which are truly not good for the human body). You guys need portable mosquito repellant.

      I was on strict keto (zero carb) for six weeks, then I went to Sälen to do the Cykelvasan trail. I almost died in Mångsbodarna, had to quit the ride and get carbs. I can't recommend any one to do extensive exercise (like steep hills) on keto. Maybe it's better if you've been on low carb for a year or so, but it's just not worth it.

    • @StarEssences
      @StarEssences Рік тому

      @@jonasbjork I have borrowed some things from keto not all of it. I do know this for a fact (using myself as an example); eliminating processed sugars, less consumption on breads (as I love bread :)), and focusing more on these types of foods: 1) Dark leafy green vegetables (or just vegetables in general 2) Fish 3) lean ground beef to steaks 4) eggs 5) and some fruits I have lost around 35 lbs. when I first changed my types of foods that I ate when I was a caregiver to my father in the recent past. Also, when a person does eat healthier types of foods, the body gets more of the necessary nutrients that it needs and therefore, less hunger. Keto also allows you to consume Dark Chocolate. I have sweet tooth that I have become more disciplined about. This is where a lot of people gain their WEIGHT from; PROCESSED SUGARS.
