I thoroughly enjoyed watching your video. My Amarillious Belladona are in full bloom right now. I'm in the Sierra foothills of central Calif. I noticed my flowers are much deeper shade of pink than in years past. Any idea why that would be? AND what brand of gloves are you using? I need those for my roses. Ouch! 😢
Thanks for the video. I’m in southern Spain having planted 50 Belladonna bulbs into the garden in October 2022. To date, I had just one plant flower. The current state (Feb 24) is that they all have glossy green leaves. Can you please advise when to expect the flowers and recommend when to fertilize? Our summers are hot and dry from June through August. Thanks in advance.
How exciting! It sounds like your season lines up about like ours, we are on the Central Coast of California. My Belladonna bulbs are all up right now with plentiful shiny long green leaves. Those will die down over the next few months, to nothing but withered brown debris. Then, around August to September, the deep maroon stalk will start to shoot up. If you've got leaves, you should get flowers. Good luck! Let me know how it goes.
Yes,, you can grow them from the seed. They take about 10 years to get to the blooming stage. Search propagation of amaryllis belladonna from seed for the process.
I planted several in 2 huge pots with drainage at the same time, the same soul. One is in a sunnier location is the only difference. I am surprised that the leaves in the sunnier spot are yellowing, while the leaves in the slightly shade area are a better dark green. Why is that ?
@ucmastergardenersofsanluis8276 I see, I suppose that sunnier spot will die back and flower first. Do I always have to spilt up the bulbs and repot? Or just cut back the leaves? What do you use as ground cover? It is sort of a mess when the leaves die back. How to make garden area look alive when this is occuring? I read that they flower in August, is that about right?
I plant them in rows 8 inches apart. The leaves cover the ground in winter and spring stopping most weed growth. During fire season your soil is mostly weed free. No rototelling or mulch needed. Deer won't touch them. Some of my bulbs are decades old.
@@ron623tt I have them in large pots in 2 locations. I was surprised to see two of the bulbs in the sunnier location start green leave a few days ago. In late October ? Should I water both pots now? I thought the bulbs were dormant until spring, and not to water them at all. Or they might even rot in soil.
I just bought 30 on Ebay, I'll plant them with the neck peeking out and see what happens. I love their fragrance.
Great video!😮
How do you harvest without killing them? I have one in bloom I want to pick

Oh, and no need to fertilize that I know of. We are in horrible clay soil, and somehow they don't rot and keep on blooming and needing dividing.
Thanks Patty, very reassuring advice, take care xx
The video said never need water ?
🌸ENJOYED🌸
After the flower bloom the things left look like seeds ...is that something I can plant
No, you can only plant the bulbs.

When do I plant the bulbs?
In the autumn.
What if it doesn't flower, is it the same process ?
It flowers at its own time.

You don’t say where you live. But the leaves naturally yellow and die back in the spring. That may be what you’re seeing.
