I agree!! But I will admit I've had pickled octopus in Australia and it's bloody lovely. To see one in Southend is precious and perhaps should be left. Good on ya mate
I was happy he spared that octopus and was going to thank him for that but then at the end he found another one, bigger one, and he said he was going to take it and cook. I don't know what to say. 😶
yeah, i dont want to force my views on anybody but honestly killing an octopus seems similar to killing a human to me. they're just too advanced and intelligent of a species to be eating
Octopus are remarkable creatures and amazing to find they live there! I love seeing them when I snprkel on holiday. Fascinating video. I have only ever been on the end never under it.
Excellent video, I spent many a session fishing off the pier as a lad but never ventured under it. You’ve inspired me, I’ll check out the spring tides and wear my chest waders to get across that channel early. Thanks
Brilliant find with the octopus. So glad you left one and hid him away too. There can't be too many places for them to hide around that part of the Thames.
I lived in Southend for 40+ years, and not once heard of an octopus anywhere near the estuary. I can only assume that it was somehow lost, or dragged by currents. Maybe they're a lot more common, and I've just been ignorant to them.
I think they're more common than people realise, I read in the angling press about an octopus foul hooked by an angler in the early 2000's from Southend pier, maybe they go unreported or maybe I was just lucky!!
i was hooked on your videos when i found you from this video at the beginning of this year! missed you didnt know where you had gone, so glad your back mate really enjoying watching all these again cant wait for more!
Rob hartles, I went away & now I'm back!! Not all of the old videos will be back but some of them are, I'll have to try to remake some of the older ones! Thank you.
We used to fish there a lot didnt catch too many fish but lost load of rigs . Oh buy the way if you finds any tackle under the pier at the end its mine . Could you please send it back to me ,haha . Great video . please would you tell me your name ,
I done some foraging there today... picked up some oysters... never done it before... went online official websites scare you to eat anything and apprantly wrong time... anyone has any insight on this matter would be so nice to eat what i find....
Hello Brad, nice to hear from you after such a long time, Kellie just told me you messaged her!! Thanks for the interest, hope you enjoy the other vids, all the best mate.
Cool vid, cant help but feel you could go up the steps at the pier end, have a little more time exploring, pay the fair at the other side and walk back along the pier safe!
I saw a thing about that statue you found I think it's a hindu tradition to put the statue in the water I think it is quite a common thing to find randomly, great videos I found your channel because I want to start catching crayfish again
Glad you released it mate they are amazing creatures very intelligent and fascinating 😊 I was ready to hit dislike if you did the "catch and cook" lol it was small Thanks for capturing the footage. 😊
Cheers Terry, is that Bambergers jetty? I tried to fish that & the security guard came over like a man possessed! Will give you a buzz mate when I get time, you might want to delete the comment with your number on it, as my subs go up you might get pestered by all sorts of idiots!!
John It's very hard to fish, the structure beneath the pier is a tackle graveyard, the tides are monstrous & the crabs strip bait within seconds, wish it was better it's only 20 minutes up the road from me!!
Yeah let the octo go, they are amazing animals and extremely intelligent. Too good to be a meal. Oh man don't be eating it. It's got more brains than you, one in each leg/tentacle? I think? As well as the body. He's gonna be thinking what is this psychopath doing to me as you start cutting him/her up, ànd besides they're just like eating rubber-yuk.
Catch and cook octopus is wrong. Especially in Southend, where octopuses are especially rare and only 1% of their hatchlings survive. Mother dies after giving birth. They also can recognise humans and become friends.
no its Kali bro lord Shiva has a large Trishula in his right hand that is fixed to the base of the statue and kali has the sword that can be taken from her hand , i have both statues not that it matter's anyway they are both 2 sides of the same coin so to speak
@@learningtolivewithhumans1859 You're right about both sides of the same coin but there is a shivling in front and he is sat legs crossed and the trishula is missing in this murti but you can deffo see the shivling and the snakes around neck. 02:55 plus mahakali has 4 arms. But still respect for putting it down upright and not getting struck by lightining. great video. i will be fishing southend next week. Raed Gaj I'm not a very religious person but it was more of a respectful gesture to the people who had wished it to be there plus just in case I might be struck down too!!
Or you could just leave the poor sodding octopus alone and just go and buy an octopus to eat. 🙄 I'm no soyboy vegan tree hugger but it just seems unnecessary to take it tbh. That was a great video. I’ve fished off that from when I was a kid. Always wanted to walk under the pier at low tide. Very nostalgic!
Mr King thank you, it's a magical place!

God I miss that place, I spent lots of my youth down there having fun one way or another.
I love it under the pier, most people don't realise what's under their feet!

Did you ever end up making a video of eating the octopus?
As an old Southend er, that tide comes in around you and cuts you off. You HAVE to keep looking towards the beach for the water coming back in.
It can be a dangerous place!
Quite beautiful occy

I know this is old but I’d say if you find something rare like this best leave it be. Could ruin the chance to populate the area with them.
Really you had to eat it really ...not enough dead animals in the supermarkets?
Are the oysters and muscles edible or are they a bit dodgy to eat under the pier mate
They`d be fine to eat.
if that tide turned would you be able to climb the pear pal?
Very unlikely. You`d rip your hands to shreds on the barnacles and mussels.
Great video!
