    So long gay bowser

  • @lordroy88

    Differences:
    Peach fades away quicker in the Japanese version.
    Mario only says “Ha ha” jumping out of the pipe in the North American version.
    Bowser’s text is quicker in the North American version.
    In the final fight, Mario says “Here we go!” When throwing him in Japanese version, and the infamous “So long gay Bowser!” In the North American version.

    • @BagOfMagicFood
      @BagOfMagicFood 9 років тому +1

      wohdinhel Huh? I thought the Japanese version had no audio for Peach at all. This would probably be easier to catch if this video had a stereo option...

    • @christianmelching5701
      @christianmelching5701 9 років тому +3

      wohdinhel No? There's no audio for Peach on the Japanese version during the intro.

  • @mkdasher
    @mkdasher  11 років тому +3

    No, TAS starts counting at the very first frame even if there's no input, and it finishes on the last input, which is the jump you do to get the star (not when bowser finishes talking). And your statement would be wrong anyway too since there's already inputs before the intro. ;)

  • @mkdasher
    @mkdasher  12 років тому +1

    In japanese version there are some stars shorter (Blast to the stone pillar, stand on the four pillars), short enough to probably save what loading would waste (around 6-7 secs at max)

  • @Adricgames
    @Adricgames 9 років тому +14

    So basically the reasoning of speedrunners playing the japanese version because it's faster is not true (at least for 0-star) and the difference between the two is, at most, about 30 frames.

    • @mkdasher
      @mkdasher  9 років тому +5

      +Adricgames well, speedrunners usually run 120 star category, which is faster in that case, but for other reasons.

    • @Adricgames
      @Adricgames 9 років тому +1

      mkdasher Yeah, that's why I said for this category; I didn't know if 120 star was faster on japanese or not.
      Why is it faster, anyway?

    • @mkdasher
      @mkdasher  9 років тому +5

      Adricgames Lot of reasons, in particular there are some stars that are clearly faster

    Small but interesting differences!

  • @mkdasher
    @mkdasher  12 років тому +1

    I wouldn't be so sure about that. Lag difference isn't that much. On this run, it's just 0"23 difference (meaning that japanese and american would have tied if it wasnt because of lag).
    In a 120 star TAS, lag difference wouldn't be more than 7 secs, and japanese version has some stars faster than American version, like Stand tall in the 4 pillars, or Blast To The Stone Pillar, so I'm still not sure which one would be faster.

  • @mikecmtong

    His point is, in TAS it should be about how quickly the player plays, not how long a cutscene is. Ideally, cutscene times would be standardized so one time vs. another isn't faster than the other simply because of what version of the game they played.

  • @MusicalMatthew
    @MusicalMatthew 11 років тому

    Isn't TAS about when input control starts and ends? Like the US intro took longer but the input stage didn't begin until after the Japanese version. And I would believe when the 3rd Bowser finished talking the input stage is over. So I don't think it saved the US version as much as just made it about 3 seconds or less faster in overall time. Take that away and I'd say they were dead even.

  • @Tales98
