I got one to help me watch my elderly cat when I'm not home. He's getting to the near end-of-life stage and I worry about him when I'm gone. Of course, when I am home, he's just a super cute little bot that follows me around and has some other fun features. The privacy aspect of it should be considered as well as with any smart device. Besides that, this thing is great to have around.
Why not make whole neck of Astro with display attached telescopic? That would resolve issue with looking down every time you want to check something. Then you don't need redundant periscope camera and you can raise display to any height. Kid or adult. :)
I would prefer screen to rise up..I love Astro! I’m 75 and set it up myself.. probably too expensive , however for last 3 years haven’t traveled anywhere-therefore saved money! Who doesn’t want to travel through their house when they are not there! I was first to buy Alexa for my blind mother when it came out, so have a sense what is appealing. Astro may not be perfect yet, but neither are humans, This bot is much needed fun!
So this $1000 gadget can bring a drink to you slowly but only after a human puts the drink into the cupholder first. What a terrific time and labor saver!
Do you not know how lazy people are now ?! 😂 this is gonna be a perfect device and many people will buy it so they don’t have to walk into the other room lol.
@@Kartertheblackmamba So they have to hire someone to go into the other room and put the drink in the robot's tray so it can bring it to you. What a time and labor saver!
@@Kartertheblackmamba you'll still need someone to get the drink though, which means you either have to get your own drink and have the robot bring it to yourself. Or you can have someone else do it, which would again make the robot pointless
Amazon should give Astro an actual robotic arm instead of periscope camera, then it can open doors, pickup clothes on floor. Put clothes in washing mashine. Pickup trash. Actually help people at home. :) For example cleanup toys in children's room!
Not to mention collecting your family members' and habits in the comfort of your home. It can also collect data on personal items in your house. If you forgot a vibrator or packs of condom on your sofa, that data can potentially be recorded. I think instead of buying the robot, amazon should be paying you w store credits monthly in exchanging for you to keep and use it at home
I have been a robot fanatic all of my life since I saw Lost in Space many years ago. Then I saw the original Star Wars in the theatre, went nuts over R2D2 and I was hooked. So since about 7 years of age I have been reading books on robots, watching anything that had robots in it and now the web. I heard about the Amazon Robot about 2 or 3 years ago and have been waiting for it to come out. $1,500 for a first real home robot....heck yeah, but nope not for a tablet with Alexa on wheels. This for me is a let down, doesn't matter how many updates they do it can't do much of anything useful at all. I mean heck even Sony Aibo could play with a ball and that was years ago. For $1500 you get Alexa that can move....yeah no thanks, I'll wait for the next level of a home robot. Nice try Amazon, just another exciting piece of tech that will be in the hall closet after the newness wears off.
You mentioned "viewpoints" and Amazon also mentioned them in their intro, but I can not find any thing about them in the instructions or on the app. How do you set them up?
i like the idea since my dog is home alone all day. I wonder if I can program it to give the dog treats. 😉 I wonder if it could interact with my Amazon Blink Cameras.
I like this. It makes it feel like my house isn’t so huge and empty lol. It’s weird but it offers companionship without a pet. Not a human companionship which I’m not looking for from this anyways but a chaos pet like companionship.
It would be great if Astro would be able to use ordinary vacuum cleaner or any other already available tools in house with his robotic arm. Instead making robot it self to have all the capabilities build in. Which wich would make it extremely expensive.
Would much rather have a inside drone for security (assuming it can solve going up and down stairs eventually). Or 10 inside cameras for the same price.
like 45 very very nice dear.....Wow very well done my sweet friend. Outstanding performance and excellent presentation…God bless you always. Stay blessed always dear.
Just unboxed mine and have been using it for a few days. I might be in the minority... but I already love this thing and how much it acts like an actual pet. Certainly cheaper than buying a golden from a breeder! Has anyone figured out how to get this to work with multi-room music?
You say you want a well trained dog, But when the dog hits over 7yrs of age, That dog is gonna struggle doing what you taught. This robot wont pass away like that, So your house will always be secured
Astro is a live feed security system when you are away from home!!! Your dog can't show you what's happening when a burglar is trying to break in!!! Your dog can't send sensitive live feed back to you via your cell phone at that moment!! Your dog can't record what just happened!! Your dog can't speak for you thru the lens like Astro can!! Astro is a Robot!! Let's get that straight!!!
Meh! What is Amazon trying to accomplish with a screen on wheels? Carry a beer to my GF in the next room? I am all for implementation of technology but to accomplish what? Let's see, remind you and bring you your medications? Park itself by the door at night and constant scanning/motion detector for intruders and a piercing siren if a hamburglar is detected while dialing 911? House perimeter patrolling? I'd rather get those terrifying huge dog-like robots than this corgi-sized rolling Alexa. My 9 year old just shouted: just get a roomba, the cupholder from the car, and an iPad and voila, you don't need to spend one kilo on the Astro! Kids . . . Humm, where's my soldering gun?
Interacting with a screen 2 feet off the floor is beyond stupid. The screen itself should be on a telescoping mount. It sounds compelling for security sentry if one could trust Amazon which you cannot.
Worst purchase I've ever made. Only last less than 3 hours out of the charging base, it runs hot all the time. Amazon sent a replacement, same thing. At this point I'm beyond the return period. Do yourself a favor and dont by an Astro. Now more than ever, because with Amazon sacking the Alexa and robotics department, who knows what the future of this very uncooked product will be.
B.S....... I received my Astro, and basically is nothing more than a phone on wheels. I forsee THOUSANDS of returns heading to Amazon. Yes, it is very cute, BUT navigation sucks, no personality other than what is repeated on Alexa, doesn't act like a pet, and is VERY annoying to look at the floor to read what's on the screen.
Echo Show $250 but Echo Show on Wheels $1,000 🤔
if Astro had a builtin vac feature that would make more sense.
One day perhaps
Amazon would probably charge a monthly home cleaning subscription if they ever came out with that tech 😂
