- Since I posted a video about the most underrated American Girl Dolls a few weeks ago, it's time to talk about the most overrated ones! These are dolls that are "rated or valued too highly" for what they are. This could be because everyone owns them and that doll has very basic features and you see them everywhere! Hopefully you'll understand by the end of the video!

What dolls are the most overrated in your opinion?
Leah. I’ve never found her to be that pretty and I feel like she gets way to much hype.
Honestly, Kira. Nothing about her stands out to me, at least not appearance-wise. As you’ve pointed out before, she’s almost identical to Julie. I also am not a fan of Courtney.

(And the unnatural-haired dolls. I have a lot of untapped animosity stored up towards them for some reason. They seem too childish. I’m just waiting for AG to lower their age target to 4+.)
Kira. She doesn’t really stand out to me. She’s looks just like Julie. She is a very pretty doll I just don’t get the hype.
I definitely agree with you about the colored hair truly me dolls being pushed while not having a strong standing. A couple of them are cute but it’s excessive
I think the employees at AG are taking the historical characters too personally, yes the 70s and 80s are cool and most likely they have family from those times, if not them themselves. We need more 1800s ladies with music videos and hype!

as someone who works at american girl, i have to say the colored hair dolls are by far the most popular, so i think it makes sense that ag is always promoting them because kids are obsessed with them.
That’s cool that you work for AG! Do you ever wonder if AG promoted other dolls as much as they do with the coloured haired ones, those would be top sellers too?

Luciana: I literally love her so much because I love space but I can agree with you that she is very overrated.
Cecile: I have to agree with you she’s not really overrated or underrated.
Marie Grace: I agree with you. Her face-mold is very overrated but she, herself, is not.
Courtney: I love Courtney but AG does use her a little too much.
Sonali: She is very pretty but again overrated.
Kira: I love Kira because she looks so much like my mom but she is a little bit overrated.
Maryellen: She’s my favorite historical and I love her so so much but I guess I can see why people think she’s overrated.
Grace: I agree with you she’s very pretty and she deserves the hype.
Jess: I think Jess is really pretty but I can see why she’s overrated.
Colored Haired Dolls: I love them so so so much but AG does use them wayyyy too much so they are kind of overrated.
Julie: I love her because she’s another doll that’s just like my mom, my mom used to play basketball and her era was the seventies, but she is another doll that’s used too much and has become overrated.

Personally, I think Lea Clark is overrated. She's a beautiful doll and she has a unique look. But her story is not very interesting or unique in my opinion.
Story wise- she isn’t the best but I personally love her appearance (that wig is amazing) and collection which is why she’s one of my favourites

Yes I definitely agree with Marie Grace , luciana and Courtney ! Maryellen is way better than Courtney !! She is the only doll with side bangs I like ! I just got her for my birthday ! I don’t like grace but she isn’t over rated or underrated. Kira is pretty much like Julie got her curled and has green eyes
Is it just me or like in every Ag doll movie or the old ones anyway they make the girls so stubborn
Now that i think about it Kira kind of looks like Rapunzel with shorter hair, but not brown
#90 doesn’t even deserve to be overrated, she is just a blue version of Kira.

What worries me with mary grace is that because of how popular she is with customisers, I may never get one :(
I got one last month and the person I got her from had a few she was selling. Don’t worry!
And she looks WAY too feminine as a boy with that small chin. Such a mistake.

@@haydenskiez Personally, I have never been a huge pixie cut fan, especially when someone has stunning long hair and cuts it all off for a pixie cut. People can obviously do what they want with their hair, but I don’t see myself ever getting a doll with a pixie cut

honestly we need a Gold Rush era doll and a Suffragette Movement doll. Hell, since there were a lot of Chinese immigrants to California during the Gold Rush, it would satisfy the want for an asian historical girl!
Ooh that sounds cool! I actually don’t know too much about the gold rush even though it happened where I live as well. We never learned about it in school. Suffragette era is really important as well… but I feel that that impacted adults more then kids

i love the colored hair dolls because i have colored hair and have always loved dying my hair since i was 6 but i see where your coming from about them being over advertised in magazines and on the website i do quite like the appearence

I don't get the Maryellen 2.0 thing for Courtney. They have different hair color, hair type, eye color, length of hair! The only things that are the same about the dolls are there skin tone, bangs, and face mold. This comes from someone who owns both of the dolls. (No hate meant to be given)

Girl I agree with basically every one of these! (Well not Maryellen and Grace but I’m not getting into that) I own Courtney and I STILL think she’s overrated!! AG’s like Courtney this Courtney that do YOU want to buy Courtney?? I mean the Courtney display is in front of Kira’s in the store! And the colored hair dolls…I don’t even know what to say. All of AG’s advertisements has them in it while beautiful TMs are shoved to the side. Well that was my ramble. Great video Ally!
Thank you! I love Maryellen but I can agree she isn’t the best historical, and Grace is average in terms of hype in my opinion. But even the birthday stuff, all they advertise that with is Courtney and the coloured hair dolls

What? In my opinion Cecile is underrated lolllll that's so funny that people said she was underrated and overrated. I agree about Marie Grace, I love Marie Grace but her mold is overrated because of everyone wanting her for customs.
Also I would have died if Courtney had been an African American Addy mold doll with crimped 80s hair! That would have been beyond amazing! 😫😭

I agree with many of your opinions. I loved Marie Grace but everyone really overusing her for customs is reducing my love for my original. I JUST ordered a sonali after buying and loving sooo many sonali mold dolls so I hope I am not disappointed 🤞🏻. Kira was disappointing even though I wanted to love her I couldn’t but if I had to pick one doll to be the most “overrated” I would pick Z yang

Courtney is totally overrated. I actually borrowed my sister's Courtney for a guest star on my AGSM series and since Ellie (Maryellen) was a main character, my friends (non-agtubers who don't have a clue about AG) actually thought Courtney was Ellie only with curled hair!!!! 😑 So, yeah I'm not a big fan of Maryellen 2.0. 😮😭
I relate to Courtney, bc I was born a week before the challenger explosion and if I was her age, I would have the same reaction, and I love her insecurities and anxiety when she's dealing with public conversation, I relate to her personality wise and I do use my imagination to help with my lack of confidence too

I can understand her insecurities about conversation and self confidence, I should read her series, it sounds relatable. Judging from just looks though, I still believe she's overrated. If they had made her look more unique, maybe not give her bangs or give her a different face shape, then I could actually like her as a doll. But as a character, she sounds fascinating. 💖
I definitely agree with what you said of the colored-hair dolls. AG seems to think they’re really trendy and popular but I prefer the natural-colored hair. It’s fine to have a couple that are their, but it seems to be all about the colored-hair dolls right now.

I have natural looking highlights in my hair, so I do understand the appeal of dying it, but a kid going full on bright blue? It isn’t common. They don’t even show the root
I completely agree with what you said about Courtney. I was really looking forward to the new 80s doll but I was underwhelmed. I've tried to like her but just not a fan. I love Maryellen though. I think she is absolutely adorable and I love the 50s!

i agree i dont like kira, i was very disappointed last year when they released another blonde josephina mold and her story is similar to lea's but AG made up for that with Corrinne shes amazing:)

True, but what matters is not what is the best doll or what is the doll that people mostly like, and what happens if I buy a doll that people don't like. What matters is that you like it :D

Seriously, WHY is Luciana still available? She's a GOTYYYYY. Completely agree with Marie-Grace customs, Courtney (I guess people must just love the 80's), Sonali (don't know why people would pay a fortune for her when you could make a CYO for less), Kira (she's cute but yep, Julie with green eyes), Julie, and Jess. Maryellen maybe is a tiny bit overrated but I adore her. I don't think Grace is overrated at all at this point in time, maybe when she was first released. I personally like the colored hair dolls a lot, but I agree that AG promotes the heck out of them. I guess they just wanted to cash in on the customizing trend of fantasy wigs.

The thing is you can sell luciana's meet outfit. I like that she was a doc Josefina mold and the space theme was really outside the box

I think the dolls with colored hair would be better off as the CYO not truly me. Kids go through trends one minute they like having colored hair and the next they want their natural hair color.
i loveeeee my grace doll i originally didnt like her as a doll but i got her in amazing condition w 2 other outfits besides her meet for 75 bucks off fb marketplace shes one of my faves in my v small doll collection
Jess was my first American girl doll and recently my mom actually got me another one because she knew how much Jess meant to me so now I have 2 of very different qualities. Note never give a 6 year old a very expensive doll, I’ve done my best to fix her up but she still isn’t as good as new.
Courtney moore is like to maryellen grew up and they thought that they should show maryellen in the 80s

Luciana is so overrated but i have her i am not the biggest fan of her but i don't think she's the worst doll ever. But yes She is overrated. I totally agree that Mary-grace is overrated but i know why because she's like so pretty that face mold is not the best but i think i like her more than Cecile. I am thinking about getting Courtney but yes Mary-Ellen is so much better!

Oof, the Luciana negativity is hurting me 🥲 But I do agree with a lot of your opinions, especially on Sonali. Sure, she gave us a new face mold, but come on, she’s not worth $19381891 dollars. And I definitely agree on the colored hair dolls, the brightness of their hair is hurting my eyes. I think 86 and 89 are cute, but I’m tired of seeing them all everywhere. You can’t even get a catalogue without them in half of the pictures!

I think the actual Molly doll is overrated as well. However, I love Molly’s character and books. I would have liked to be friends with her.
It’s to bad Luciana was my first GOTY doll I ever saved up money to buy. I do see why she overrated they made her look more towards young kids.

Agreed. Something that especially peeves me about Courtney is the fact that she’s not even old. I know this sounds silly, but hear me out. The 80s weren’t that long ago. Kids hear their parents talk about the 80s all the time and show them things from their childhood. Having an 80s doll isn’t really educational when kids already know what the 80s were like, is it? I do not understand Courtney at all. Sorry, but I’m quite livid about American Girl modernizing all the historical dolls, and it seems like Courtney was just an excuse to have another “nearly contemporary” doll release. Too many contemporary dolls in general bother me, too, but that’s a rant for another day.
@@HJ-oo8ph Well said and if they have such a problem with finding those types of historical things to add into other american girl doll historical characters they need to look back at the other PC items it doesnt make sense to me that they want samantha addy josefina and kit to blow up when they dont make an effort and make dolls like courtney from the 80's which quite frankly doesn't make sense because AG/PC started in the 80's and i know oh funny a AG doll has an AG doll but jullie is a little bit to recent as well and we let her slide so why are we letting courtney come and just be the most recent and not complain it defeats the purpose of the historical line its only about 40 year age gap but if some of the kids parents were born that time It just makes no sense the doll shouldn't be in her 50's i would say about 70's 80's are good because its history and girls would learn more about it that they didnt before sorry thisis such a long reply but i really needed to get my point across im fixing to email american girl tonight again so just needed to vent a bit
I agree 100%! I talked about it in my “things I dislike about Ag 2” video. Yes 80’s is an iconic time period but it’s so modern compared to dolls like Felicity, Addy and Kaya

I feel the exact same way! American Girl is focusing too hard on being “relatable.” My best explanation for this recent tendency is that it’s hard to have characters who are truly historical be as relatable as they’d like. It would be more difficult to market historically accurate characters from the 17th-19th centuries, since the times were simply different and not as “appealing” to children because they facedifficult and unfamiliar challenges. Perhaps AG likes making dolls who are recent so much because they’re simply easier to do. Low effort, lifeless, and easier to have a light storyline for children. As a child, I appreciated the dark elements of the AG stories from Samantha’s time and before, and the more modern they got, the more these elements diminished. My best guess is it’s hard for AG to keep things light and “child-friendly” (even though children can handle a lot more than they’re even given credit for, as shown by the popularity of “dark” “children’s” shows like Infinity Train) if they have to write about older time periods. And if that’s the case, I think it’s sad that AG is so petrified of doing something outside the box, where they can’t make everything pink and cheery, that they hinder their own company. Don’t get me wrong, I love AG. I’m just disappointed about how dull the historical line has become.

Truly Mes are overrated in general. I never understand why someone would prefer to have a doll look just like them over an already established character like the Historicals or Girls of The Year.
My first doll was a truly me because I wanted a lookalike doll like the ads in the magazines. Though I do own a lot of character dolls, I bought them all based on appearance and not story.

I think my most unpopular opinion is that I actually hate Marie Grace and I think her face mold makes her look like a chipmunk. But that's just me, you're entitled to your own opinion.

I love Courtney Moore and her collection. But, I would love a early 1920’s doll with the trends. If I had more room, I would get Mary Ellen. Kira is very pretty. But, her wig is way too thin. I only have 2 dolls with colored hair. I will not get anymore of them. I like Julie. But, her collection is not what I wore then.
I want a 20’s doll as well, but the iconic fashion such as flappers are all adults. Not sure what 1920’s kids wore but it definitely wasn’t flapper outfits
@@AllycatlovesAG I saw pictures of them wearing the shorter dresses. But, they were pretty and suited children well. Also, they wore Mary Jane shoes. Girls wore mainly dresses then.
I was expecting 22 and 27 to be on this list! They are SUPER overrated and I see little girls with them everywhere. I don’t see 22 much on agig but she creeps all throughout the depths of AGTube as peoples crusty first doll
Haha you called out 22! When I think of overrated dolls, the characters come to my mind, not as much the TM’s. I wouldn’t say they are overrated as they started that whole blonde doll trend but they definitely aren’t unique
