I’m 31 and have been gaming all my life… Octopath Traveler 2 was a very special experience for me, and the first game I ever felt the drive to 100% complete.
Thank you so much for making this video! Octopath Traveler 2 is my #2 game of all time, and this is my favorite creator video that I've seen on it. OT2 is an incredible game and had me so emotionally invested, I'm always trying to get more people to give it a try, it's a masterclass in JRPG gameplay, story, graphic style, and music.
Thank you for your kind words. I just love Octopath Traveler both games are just amazing. People really need to give Octopath Traveler 2 a try especially since the shared chapters make for a more immersive experience. We need more of these styles in modern JRPGs
My math about party combs: There are 8 characters with 1 fixed main job. Each character could have 1 out of 11 (different than the main) secondary jobs or could not have a job at all, if they so choose. So 12 variants for each character. For the first party slot you could choose from 8 characters, for the second slot from 7 and so on. Each character have 12 variants. So basically we have (8*12)*(7*12)*(6*12)*(5*12) / (1*2*3*4) the division is to account for the order and the fact that it does not matter. We have 1 451 520 different party formations at least in my calculations. I also did not take into account that you cannot have 4 characters have the same secondary job (it's 3 top iirc). I cannot solve how to do it, so someone better at math should help with that.
Now when I think about it, it might be that 4 of the jobs could be used only once as a secondary job. So the number should be (8*12)*(7*11)*(6*10)*(5*9) / (1*2*3*4) And this might roughly be taking into acccount the jobs used too many times problem as well. Most probably doesn't though. So we actually have 831 600 combinations in this case.
My mind is blown by this. Thank you for the solution and that is actually a whole lot bigger than what I thought the party combinations would be. Potential 800k upwards to a million is just absolutely wild. I totally appreciate you taking the time to solve that problem. This is just amazing.
