I love how smooth his 200 mph ball speed swing looks.
Looks the same as most average pro hitting their 160 ball speed fairway finder.
And according to PING who put him on ENSO Mocap lab he also have the fastest hand speed out of anyone they tested at 28.5 mph.
I've been following Wilco on the European Tour for over a year. Phenomenal driver of the ball. There's another S. African to watch out for, James du Preez - 6'10", smashes his drives effortlessly around 350 yards.
I've been following Wilco for a while now on the European tour and I knew it would only be a matter of time until he played on our tour. I predict that he'll win on the PGA tour soon.
Thank you for making a comment that gives you a 30-40% percent chance of looking intelectual, let me try, Mark my words this guy will play golf This year!!
@@lewispearman9964 😭😭😭 Stop! you'll upset the pro analysts
I knew it was going to be WIlco when he teased it. His videos have been showing up on my feed for the last month plus and the guy is a beast.
The modern driver swing requires you to remain behind the ball in the downswing. I have seen Bubba Watson with his front foot off the ground and his weight on his hind leg at the point of contact.
Ok can we Saffers try correct your pronunciation of the name Nienaber…. Pronounce it as follows ‘Knee Nah Burr’. Can you try this. Thanks, from a proud Saffer 🇿🇦
Baie dankie!
Really good points you make.
You're right about that, Steve, I do have that right foot drag after impact with my drives. I teed up once and my right toes drew like a line on the tee box after impact. I was unaware of this going on until that day; the course was soft.
Love your reviews. Thanks for doing this
Let me know what you think of the update.
Hi Steve, One think that he also does, which I think is the most important part of his swing, is "spinning the meatball". I started that move a month ago and had never broken my age of 71. In the last 3 weeks, I have done it 3 times. You can't hit it left even when attacking. It should be fun watching him develop.
Thanks Steve. I never picked up on the stance and right foot action. He does "hititlonger" than Bryson. They'e both powerhouses except that when Wilco does it, it looks so much more relaxed and smooth.
Agree. And a 3/4 swing to boot.
Kid can smash it, just found him recently. What's crazy is his hips don't really rotate much in the backswing. Maybe 10-20° and really only his torso and arms getting the club back. Definitely rotates the forward tho. Fun to watch for sure.
Great analysis. I believe Rory had some of that leg action too and he had some back issues too. Ping measured Wilco’s hand action as the fastest they every measured which ties into what u were staying about this release action. I’m excited to watch this kid and see what he does as well.
Great point
I saw this kid earlier on the Euro tour channel and thought the same thing about his length vs Bryson. Great analysis and critique, hope Wilco takes your advice. Can you imagine how long he'd get. LOL. Also, I remember the commentators pronouncing his name: KNEE N' KNOBBER. Thank you Steve.
My brother's side of the family knows his personally. I will send this to them.
We should see how wilco will drive at wing foot country club😊and what score can he shoots under US open condition 😂
I really like his swing, he should this and that. 😆
Next he'll tell kyle berkshire how to hit it
Balance that is key
Its 'Knee-nobber'. That's 'stupid long' in Afrikanner. ;)
haha
Yep, that is long enough to still have fun.
Question I would have is shaft stiffness as we learn these techniques. I'm 60 and playing regular stiffness.
Who'd like to see a four-ball with Bryson, Wilco, Cameron C, and Bubba?
I played a 4 ball scramble including Mike Dobbyn and Ryan Winther, both world long drive champions...both 60 yards longer than any of those 4. 220-225 ball speed.
@@Inmotion70 doesn't matter😂 wilco can actually play golf, not just drive
Then have Tony Finau as the back up in case anyone calls in sick.
Steve, love watching your videos. I'm 57 and love to bomb the driver. I buy and try lots of drivers! I just got the Cobra LTDx-LS with Hzrdus RTX 6.5 shaft. This setup is 15 yards farther then any other driver I have. On default setting on SkyTrak, my best is 324 carry and 352 total yards. My best is 184mph ball speed and 126mph CS, so far. I am trying to change my over the top swing I had for years, to hitting up on the ball from more straight or slightly inside. I have a 9* head set to 8* and launching it at 16* to 19* degrees, so I must be hitting up 4-6*. I am getting 1,800 to 2,400 back spin, with the LTDx-LS. I will try to start posting some videos on my channel soon. Will be trying an LD shaft to see if I can get to 190 ball speed.
Amazing numbers!
This kid has a super swing. This guy has more spews for more views.
Can you get me from a 240-250 yard average up to 300 yards mate? I'm really struggling to increase my distance, and keep it straight. Been playing two years and only just managing not to slice my driver each time now, but cant seem to consistently hit it any further. I'm also 48 years old, not a spring chicken anymore haha. Club speed is 105-110 average with driver. Out of about 700 drives on trackman i've managed to hit it just over 300 yards twice.
Yes you already have the speed. It will be about smash factor and spin rate. I hit it 300+ out of 108 mph all day long. Email me.
Liam Mucklow discusses CoP backup. Necessary for hitting it long….check it…
6ft 2in 175lbs is super thin! The key to speed seems to be height, long arms, a decent swing, speed, youth, and in my opinion the right custom clubs to maximize the spin rate, launch angle, etc... the game is set up for the taller longer players to win
I remember when I was 12 when I thought I would be over 6 feet tall, people told me I had no chance of ever being really good because all the great golfers were 5'8"-5'10".
Maybe not youth, but the rest for sure helps. I'm 57 and still hitting at my longest, 180+ ball speed. Modern equipment helps. I'm 6' and 235lbs.
Yesterday saw a video from you where you stood in front of pole you broke your wrist around pole without hitting your left forearm is this after you hit ball this can’t be at ball or before can it thanks
When isolated that movement looks crazy. But combine the pivot and you will be 30 inches past the ball at the end of the movement.
Thanks Steve
With all due respect, Wilco's swing is ridiculous. How can you criticize it? It is the quickest most fluid swing I've ever seen. His hips are open 45 deg left of target at the end of his swing. Unbelieveable.
Wilco and Bryson are in the same league.stock yardage are the same for irons and woods.I think Bryson single plane style is more consistent 😅
Great video! However I disagree with one part and I thought I'd point it out: about his right foot balance. If you take a look at some of the biggest hitters in the world, for example Kyle Berkshire, at impact, his left foot isn't even touching the ground, meaning he has no weight on said foot. But then again he has great balance while not swinging out of his shoes and then sticks his finish for as long as he wants. My opinion ;)
Hi Kaspar! Great comment. He has approximately double his bodyweight pushing into the ground with his left foot in the slot, then the resistance is greater than that coming into the ball, making him get airborne.
Definitely longer than DeShankbo!
Chael Sonnen thumbnails - if anyone gets the crossover reference!
*fantastic channel btw*
This pro doesnt get it... power comes from that exact action on the right foot twisting and pushing up, bringing the right knee in. It also guarantees that your left left is strait and posted at impact and not broken down! Hope it was a big help. Cheers
Ryan Michael , You talking about the Dude whom Won the US Open , Deshank not!
slow motion analysis shows an acute angle between shaft and wrists at P6, a characteristic of most long hitters; surely this would not be possible if he ‘throws from the top’ as you advocate. If he is the longest hitter on tour should we not follow his example?
I drive it around 130 yards shorter than Bryson 🤣🤣🤣
Steve stripes it. 300 plus and straight as a rope. Over and over again. Bryson should take a lesson!
Don't forget Nicolai Hojgaard and his twin brother Ramsus both are right there with Wilco🔥🔥🔥🔥🚀🚀🚀
No they're not, 20+ behind him. Wilco cruises at 194 ball speed
This guy has much more advantage due to longer leavers.
So you could have him hitting it 400 Steve.
UA-cam James Hart Du Preez, another Pro from South Africa, 6foot9, 119kg's.
But can he play at all?
@@Inmotion70 Yes Steve he can.
Ma se poes
😂😂😂
This comment caught me off guard !!🤣🤣🤣
I think he will be able to pay his doctor bill?
I think.he is 6 ft 8
Wait till yall see James Hart du Preez
Should be fun! Let's see if he has any game to back it up.
James du Preez is even longer than Wilco btw - James Wiltshire has a video on him sending Pro Vs into orbit.
Edit: as a courtesy here is the video in question ua-cam.com/video/uUzj9cI86a0/v-deo.html
Yes - but can he play?
@@Inmotion70 Yes.
@@Inmotion70 yes he can play
and pulse Bryson is trying to get swing speed and hit it far so that’s why he swings so strong stop insulting Bryson btw
And with all that stuff he does “wrong” he still plays professional golf globally
Nicolai Horgaard and Nikolas Norgaard Moller are equally as long. Another swing that is fast but so damn smooth is Drew Cooper and even though he isn’t a pro - he will beat Bryson on club and ball speed and of course distance.
Bryson went 146/218 at worlds last year. Not sure Drew is any faster, but yes an incredibly smooth swing.
wilco straight up isnt longer than bryson
Wilco was leading the driving distance at the US open.
His surname is pronounced
Knee Knaar Bha.
Bryson carries 340 all the time
Everything was a complaint that’s all I heard he’s on the PGA you’re on UA-cam ✌🏽
Go watch it again dude. You're dead wrong.
Apparently you need to watch it seven times more you’re so dead understanding nothing
Cool but tall lanky with distance is like a skinny guy with abs or fat chick with big bobs.
If you find a guy built like Kevin Kisner that can flat out launch it....maybe theres more to learn from.
Last time we had a short guy that bombs it was Woosie? Or the lesser known Emanuele Canonica from Italy....those are the real unicorns. Few and far between.
I have a friend who's 5'3" and has gone 434 in competition.
@@Inmotion70 sir, can to please say a bit more about him!!?!
I'm 5.5 .. is it possible for me too?!?
Here's a revelatory newsflash! There are many different ways to play golf well at the highest level! Look at the careers of Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, Zach Johnson, Payne Stewart, Corey Pavin, Calvin Peete and Abraham Ancer just to mention a few. Hitting the ball 350 yards through the air does not mean you have an overwhelming advantage of a player who hits it 280. Its down to the short pitches and wedges and putting game where tournaments are won and lost. If I was the Pga Tour Commisionor I would make everyone tee off with persimmon drivers, no lines on the ball allowed and when you are on the green you can only mark and clean and replace your ball once!
Your ""newsflash" isn't backed up by data. The closer to the hole you are off the tee, the better you will score over time, that is backed by numerous data. Is it easier to shoot a better score off the forward tees or the back tees, why do you think that is? Driving it 350 is a HUGE advantage over driving it 280, are you kidding me? Please do some research before commenting your opinion that isn't backed up by reality.
Thanks for the great comment!
LDS rule baby
If I wanted your opinion Ide pay you
You already did. Thanks for watching!
He doesn't hit it WAAAY farther than Bryson. His average drive distance might be slightly farther, but his swing does look WAAAY smoother.
Got more in the tank course speed than Bryson
If one can, go see him hit it in real life. It's ridiculous.
He isn't a cry baby like Bryson neither!!
You are insulting Bryson and I’m a fan😢
The sad thing about this is that golf is just becoming the non-automobile equivalent of NASCAR. All anyone cares about is how long can he drive the ball. It's making golf boring. I personally know a guy who routinely drives the ball 330-340 and he's not even a scratch player (he's a 2 handicap). But, long driving is dumbing down golf and making it a ham-handed display of one single aspect. Big deal. Ironically, what may save golf is SHORTENING courses. Once you take away the trick of the "1-trick pony", it's a level playing field.
There is a sport like that. Its called putt-putt where I come from. How do you stop long hitters hitting from hitting high lofted irons from further out to still have the advantage of ball control? Top golfers have been working out in gyms for many years to gain advantage. To complain about it is stupid.
i swear we live in a clown world.i play at a par most of the time.pga is a joke.that's why i just watch the girls.lpga-klpga-jlpga.unreal skills
You are not very good with biomechanics man. Stay in your zone.
What exactly do you think I have wrong or disagree with? Are you a PhD in Biomechanics?
Bro, he only carried 320, which is not far...., and he does not hit it straight, and not comparable if he doesn’t win a major
You say you think this guy has a cleaner looking swing than Bryson. Yet bryson is faster and more accurate statistically on every level. People always hate on Bryson because he doesn't look the way they want him too, yet he's smashing speed records for a tour player and ranked high in every category of the game of golf. He is higher ranked statistcally than most of the golfers everyone loves, yet they say he is a worse player......these takes are hot hot garbage.
