I'm going to assume "Sundowning" is not related to Metal Gear Revengence. But rather "sunsetting" where online projects are to be terminated at the end of a set period of time. I would wager the project was being ended and resources being shut off gradually. So the "sun" was removed from the project and it's the dying gasps of a slowly failing program.
As soon as you said kug i understood everything and why there were anomalies under the carnival, and i just started laughing like an idiot because I realized i was watching an analog horror series about grown men trying to contain the incomprehensible danger of a rotating goomba sprite
I love this series so much, its really cool, but its also like, the videos ive seen that show kug out of bounds under pinna park make me lose it he is just so silly and paired with the pinna park music its like. Its so funny kug is so silly :) simply a little glubgy wumbo :) an eeby deeby if you will :) But also looking at the cutting room floor on super mario sunshine, there is some kinda unnerving stuff and kug is in some of the unnerving stuff so i can see where this series may have gotten its roots from :)
Damn, that part of Bowser in a pipe with Luigi’s hand sticking out of his mouth feels like either an abandoned animatronic in a body of water or stumbling upon a big ass gator & it’s too late to escape it
If I remember correctly the shine gate has something to do with the sun and since the big shine isn't there, no sun. And if Mario is missing that means he couldn't help so all the shines never came back.
@@ThePhantom4516personally, i kind of pin that on everywhere at the end of time. don’t get me wrong, i love the caretaker, but the concept of eateot and it’s just a burning memory have kind of shaped some analog horror at this point.
Fun fact: Mario 128 was also responsible for the Pikmin series, as it showed the console's handling of many individual NPCs at one time which was used for the pikmin's ai.
at 20:07, what I think the glitchy message at the bottom is saying is: “Hey Mario! Want a tip? What are you up to? Haven’t you heard the news? The Watch Dog is in town!” Alternatively, when re-reading the sentence I got: “Hey Mario! What’s up? What are you up to? Haven’t you heard the news? The Watch Dog is in town!” Personally, I think the second one is more “correct”, with implications being that a character (a painta, maybe?) greeting the player at a level. Mario (or rather, you) are given an option to ask the character “what are you up to?” to which the corresponding character says, “didn’t you hear the news? The Watch Dog is in town!” Maybe a code strand of some sorts that Jon deleted whenever he tampered with the files of the Sunshine Project?
That super mario 64 2 trailer one I Had a nightmare when i was younger that showed an animation of Luigi looking out through bowser's mouth before being eaten that was very similar to that shot of his hand sticking out his mouth that i entirely forgot about in the back of my mind for over a decade. creepy stuff.
Great catch, I can't believe I missed that D: after that there's text that says "I have made this tape to make sure you still remember me John." It sounds like Bethanie most likely made the tapes. But that 21 years quote is up for debate, I can think of a few things that it might mean but it's hard to say. What do you think?
Been around since 2020 and I’d just like to say it’s nice to see how far you’ve come in regards to your content. Guess SM64 or N64 horror should be it’s own category of horror at this rate.
Some interesting visuals in Sunrise with the stark black shadows and empty sky over Delfino, but man, whoever is writing for this project clearly isn't a native English speaker.
Seems like Nintendo tried to copy the SM64 personalizing code to the Gamecube for Sunshine, but did a quick hack job of doing it. Even so, the code was still way too powerful and soul-stealy for even the gamecube to handle, so the personalized version was cancelled and left in the archives. The AI is still sentient, but most of its assets had been cut to be used in the normal happy Sunshine we got, and what it had left to process was Bethanie and her vaguely religious storyline. So now it's bitter from being abandoned, and sees everything in religious contexts as its version of Delfino Plaza slowly decays. I bet the big shadow monster that steps in was likely meant to be the cut Tramplin' Stu enemy, as it was shown in trailers supposed to appear in delfino plaza along side bethany back when it was a larger level, and its legs could look similar if it was transformed into an analog horror demon.
I'm really loving the sunshine analog horror... Relating to the egyptian theme I think the Sundown could refer to the legendary battles betwen Ra and Apophis... Apophis was a big giant snake who fought against Ra, basically he wanted to eat the sun (some versions say he was the sun god before ra, others state he was Ra's umbilical cord(?) ) and as for the Mario 64 2 trailer... I'm getting some Major Lugi's Mansion vibes from it... I mean look at the mario model they used...
I like the plot of the Sunshine analog horror! The original plot for the game with Bethany and the Gods sounds something out of Mario’s experimental 2000s shenanigans. Also the trailer looks very legitimate and right at home! I imagine it to release at like 1998.
funny enough- I took a nap while listening to this video and I think it triggered me to dream about this super mario 64 like dream while this two head-ed snake spider thing keeps popping up and freaking me the fuck out- anyway, I might rewatch this later since I didn't got the whole video but the part I do got I like how you covered them! keep it up!
This might be the first of these kinds of retro game ARGs about Japanese games that actually mentions Japanese developers that I know of. It’s actually made clear that the English speaking characters are simply a branch of the dev team, rather than the only one, possibly being the ones that are involved in localization as well as making sure that the game works on hardware in other countries.
I may be weird but does anyone else feel kinda nostalgic with analog horror based on games like this? There is something so charmy about it, I can't explain.
25:40 wait, don’t tell me. it’s called “battler” because the magician arcana is called the **bateleur** in french???? i can’t tell if that’s a weird indirect reference or just a straight up mistake.
great video made! I was looking at a new analog horror series and the creator told me to come and look at your videos, said you are the man! Awesome job done here.
I watched these videos out of curiosity for the horror, but I came out of both fascinated by the concepts outside of that context. SM64: Classified used a lot of custom stuff that I wish I could play in a hack or something, and now this one just sounds like the plot of another game. Save this dying world by rescuing the sun.
Well it's not based on Classified 64 as much as it's based on the broader concept of the Internal Plexus of the castle but B3313 is the closest thing to a playable horror Super Merio 64 beta build there currently is, with many locales and levels from Classified, like the Challenge Lobby, the Polygonal Chaos and Grim Green Forest
First time watching this 7 months later and at 20:22 I'm pretty sure the corrupted text box says "Hey Mario! What's up? Where have you been? Didn't hear the news? The Watch Dog is in town"
I scream internally every time I hear another UA-camr explain what analog horror is. I believe I might have heard the explanation of what it is at least or near one hundred times at this point.
Although not very common anymore, and somewhat nonsensical considering Jo(h)n is just as short, Jack used to be a pretty common nickname for someone named Jonathan or Johnny. That's probably all that was, especially considering English doesn't seem to be the creator's first language.
Loving this Mario Analog horror rabbit hole we’re going down! 😁 Regarding the first video, the entities seem sentient, whether an ai (or possibly a spirit within it given that salesman line and the mention of Zelda games). 🤔Also, mythology and Occult topics like Gnostic Christianity got me into my philosophy major to begin with, and I find Lovecraft’s work to be of a similar (albeit less hopeful) vein, so I thought it might be of note that Enoch also became the archangel Metatron in apocryphal texts, and is seen as an intermediary between worlds like his Roman counterpart Mercury (who some theories compare to SM64 Mario), and HIS equivalent in the Hermetic tradition, Hermes Trismegistus (a syncretization between Hermes and Thoth). Thoth has also engaged Seth (Set) in a battle of sorts. Perhaps as the magician/ intermediary, Jonathan was seen as the false god before this god of sand (much like Nyarlathotep’s role as well). The sun seems like a possible allusion to the divine spark of knowledge that one must gain an intuitive esoteric understanding of, and that certainly connects to both Ra, and his “heart” Thoth the idea of a black sun could represent ignorance or a corrupted sense of purpose (perhaps a stand-in of the serpent Apep), which would fit if Mario was a representation of Thoth as well and he isn't around (perhaps Johnathan turned his back on the game). I’m thinking either John started it all, or he’s combating the true cause of the problem (perhaps the “blind idiot god” Azathoth that Nyarlathotep both served as possibly hated). 🤷♂️
20:36 man. I zoned out for a single second and genuinely felt my heart rate go up, the moment you uttered the word “Breeding” I think you might have actually given me ptsd after that last video 😭
Something I will bring up after watching the SM64 2 section is that after Paper Mario and Luigi's Mansion, a theory/creepypasta was made implying that King Boo (Luigi's Mansion variant) was (keyword was) actually Bowser's soul. Certain clues are given out when talking to Madam Clairvoya as she says a "hideous" form of Bowser is underneath the mansion and when fighting King Boo at the end he essentially uses a Bowser suit/corpse. Plus before the final battle with the royal Boo, he explains how he remembers Mario giving him so much trouble in the past. If the whole Paper Mario being a separate universe thing is thrown out as well as not bringing up any spin-offs, Bowser pretty much dies at the end of Paper Mario and even Toad says that "Bowser is no more". Another theory was brought up with the subsequent second and third Luigi's Mansions explaining that King Boo and Bowser act as separate personalities. So while Bowser mainly wants revenge on Mario, King Boo is after Luigi, and rather hilariously the theory says that King Boo will leave Bowser's body to pursue plans of defeating Luigi. In my second reading of the latter theory, I find multiple holes in it, pretty much the big one being is Bowser's body still active while King Boo (the spirit) is gone. Other than that the former theory is pretty interesting when read for the first time and I thought I bring it up.
From what i know, in the emails when john is called jack, usually the names were sort of shorter versions of each other. Not sure why. Some johns got called jacks and i think some jacks got called johns.
fun fact a gamecube developer tool is the test cartridge for a unique prototype gamecube. they use to test games this cartridge can hold up to four games overall also in Pina park in one of the missions KUG is underneath the map
I don't get how it got more disturbing there was even one mention of the most disturbing game ever and also the greatest game ever that challenges at every turn de blob 2 on the wii
sunshine one had kind of an interesting premise but lost me with the poor english, then it implied that the game ran fucking javascript and I could no longer take it seriously
Exactly the same, i feel like that's not even bare minimum research, poor english aside. This could be avoided by 1. Learning about the development process and its language 2. Asking for a native speaker to help out
Also, Mario 64 2/128 was never actually meant to be a sequel (as most have just found out), it was just a test for the GameCube at E3 to test the AI for its capabilities like the said future pikmin AI to have all these characters appearing at once. Edit: pretty cool by the fact that galaxy was inspired and built on by the concept, again. Like how pikmin was with the AI.
im going to be real why there is a lot and i mean A LOT of analog horror of various games? i mean some are decent and good but still i feel that i little bit overexploited plus is basically like a reskin of "every copy of mario 64 is personalized" (in my opinion what do you think?)
I wish the super Mario sunshine arg had a little bit less grammatical errors just to make it more believable. And it didn’t have the use of mythology. But I don’t even have the resources to make videos like it so oh well
The Fake Mario 64 2 trailer looks good, but i have one problem with it and it is that king boo uses his Luigi's Mantion 2 design instead of the Luigi's Mansion 1 design, which should be more logic to use
there's also a hidden 3rd line of text questioning Mario's reasoning for wanting to use it on this boss labeled as watch dog mentioning it would either result in a gruesome death or the boss might survive but end up with a fate worse than death
I saw a very new (honestly yesterday) series and I thought it was pretty good. A fresh take on it. I don't know the name yet but I copied the name of the creator "Chris Kouroupis". I don't know but maybe it's worth your time. Any thoughts?
A look my picture is so spooky Oh, no, I'm gonna get you And take your body and Become you or something Oh no i'm a smiling guy I'm so fucking spooky Oh The screen faded to black What's going to happen next are you going to be jumpscared

im going to be real why there is a lot and i mean A LOT of analog horror of various games? i mean some are decent and good but still i feel that i little bit overexploited plus is basically like a reskin of "every copy of mario 64 is personalized" (in my opinion what do you think?)
every copy of super mario sunshine is personalized
great work keep it up,likied this episode hoping for the best
Interesting stuff about this series on Super Mario 64
I wish the super Mario sunshine arg had a little bit less grammatical errors just to make it more believable. And it didn’t have the use of mythology. But I don’t even have the resources to make videos like it so oh well
The fact that this video followed up the Chris Nastolgic video is concerning.
9:12 of course it's John like in fnaf Garfield and everywhere like he needs his own analog horror
"Hey John? Where's my sunnysagna?
-... I shouldn't have given you full Internet access, Bethanie."
John, 2001, probably
he's everywhere i swear to god he's works with me in the theme park
Super mario being a kids game has the creepiest analog horror lol
This just sounds like a rip off of the sun vanished
bro i just got a mario ad before the vid
I really love these analog horror or ice berg types of videos and you're very good at making them! Hope to see more as soon as possible 😄
Insert SpongeBob kiddy rollercoaster gif
The Fake Mario 64 2 trailer looks good, but i have one problem with it and it is that king boo uses his Luigi's Mantion 2 design instead of the Luigi's Mansion 1 design, which should be more logic to use
Around 20:33 in the video I could see a bit more words such as I think Hey Mario and Haven’t heard the news?
That one picture of spongebob and patrick riding a kiddie coaster
2:53 Was that the Devil Survivor 2 loading animation?
no one:
sundowner:DID SOMEONE SAY RED SUN?!
person:no,who are you anyways
sundowner:I'M SUNDO-
person:oh we said sundowning
sundowner:awww
5 Nights at John's
inmage if Mario 64 2 came out and I'm not gonna go to sleep thanks 👍
27:07 how the hell is any of this related to super mario sunshine for the nintendo gamecube
guys i think i saw something like a glitch in real life it looked like a human but not help me
Babe wake up sunflower just posted
I'm sick and tired of analog horror stories.
No one cares lol , just get off the video then
Brilliant video
it’s that funny pikmin guy
is the series you are talking about is the classified series?
21:51 the top text in the Bottom speech bubble reads hey mar . . . :( wait what wha huh Mario where . . Uh Did You EVER LEARN THAT
there's also a hidden 3rd line of text questioning Mario's reasoning for wanting to use it on this boss labeled as watch dog mentioning it would either result in a gruesome death or the boss might survive but end up with a fate worse than death
ooooo thanks for pointing those out, I can't believe i missed them :(
ineresting video!!!good work weell done sunny!!!
I saw a very new (honestly yesterday) series and I thought it was pretty good. A fresh take on it. I don't know the name yet but I copied the name of the creator "Chris Kouroupis". I don't know but maybe it's worth your time. Any thoughts?
Saw it last night from a comment similar to yours. I liked it but because it's early I didn't understand the hidden messages...
@@nicklorensthegreat me too bro!
I really liked the fresh air it gave by applying more action and emotion with the actors than with animation.
