    Hi Nick. I'm a long time fan of your videos and I really find them useful. I actually went ahead and got an Ohme Home Pro charger installed following watching this video. However, having used it for a while I do feel there are a couple of issues that I have realised which were not covered in your video. Firstly, the charger application does not support multiple EVs. So if you are a multi EV household sharing the Ohme Home Pro, then you will have a large faff to reconfigure the app every time you switch cars to charge. Likewise, if you have guests visiting in an EV who would like to charge, then you'll have to go through the same faff. I believe the app should allow you to add as many cars as you want (within reason) and fast switching between each car should be possible. Further, there should be an easy guest mode that allows anyone with any car to plug-in and the charger can be configured to charge based on a continuous or timed schedule without having to enter any car details. Neither of these features exist with this charger and I feel it's quite a big oversight.

      Hi Mil, I contacted Ohme to check whether they were able to offer a guest or multiple EVs option for charging. They did confirm that the system currently does not support this facility at the moment. If anyone is looking for a an EV charger, my recommendation would be to think about what is important to you and get these points checked out by the manufacturers. In my experience they are good at responding to questions.

    Hi Nick i want to say thank you for this video as my brother in law rang me yesterday he’s 82 and has just got one of these chargers with a new Vauxhall Mocha EV trough the Motability scheme so problem was the plug on the charger would not come out of it holster on the wall the reason being the holster bracket now is not like you show in this video made from metal it is now black plastic and the weight of the cable was bending it downwards he had no idea you had to press a button to get the plug out so he lives several miles from me and i had no idea what the issue was so i watch a few YT vids on the OHME and yours was far and away the best so i rang him back today and showed him your video over FaceTime job sorted saved me about a 40 mile round trip your footage did.
    I have watched your videos for several years i have to EVs in my household both MGs ( mistake) that was but you have shown us a lot in that time so thank you very much much and keep up your good stuff

    Hi buddy, please can you help. I have the new OHME charger with no screen like this one I only want to charge my car on my cheap tariff which is 00:30 - 05:30 but the app doesn't let me do it. I can only set the desired % at departure. If I plug it in at 21.00 but depart for work at 05:30 and only need to top it up from say 40% - 85%. Will it start start charging straight away or work back from 05:30 so it charges on the cheaper rate or does it start charging straight away ?

    I much prefer a larger box so you can neatly wrap all the cable around the charger, also the CT clamp arrangement means these cannot be fixed on a building separate to the house consumer unit, Zappi still has it for me!

  • @lauriemiles1842
    @lauriemiles1842 3 роки тому

    I've used an Ohme cable with a non-tethered charger I got installed for free with our last EV. I think you'll find chargers will still come with a non-tethered option, even if most people want tethered.
    The Ohme app is good, but takes a bit of an effort to get working with one's setup. It doesn't allow switching vehicles easily for more than one EV, and still cannot use the Mercedes API.
    However, it worked brilliantly with Octopus Agile, and switching to Octopus Go was effortless in the app.
    One "feature" of the cable is that it starts charging for about 1 minute as soon as you plug into the car, while it communicates over mobile with Ohme - it then switches to standby, and will turn on at the appointed time/rate. (Does the Ohme charger also do this?) It also needs unplugging & re-inserting if you are going to leave the car plugged in for over 24 hours, otherwise it won't initiate a second charge 24 hours after the first one.

    So close... Great features, but the sealed unit with a 5m cable is a problem for me. Front charge port, and I need to reverse in. A 7m cable option is needed. Aesthetically, I'd like to have the backplate extended upward to form the cable holder, looping the cable around the unit, and a more integrated holster below as you suggest, Nick. Without a smart meter or a flexible tariff like Octopus Agile or Go, does the Ohme Home Pro still make sense? Does it still have features that make it stand out against other makes like EO mini or SyncEV? Thanks

    • @NicolasRaimo
      @NicolasRaimo  3 роки тому +1

      What features do Eo mini and sync have that standout?
      It’s very hard to compare charge points to each other as every single charge point is unique to the buyer of the charge point…
      I’ve reviewed both sync and Eo see there reviews as see how you feel they compare.

    Great video - I think I’m going to get this charger installed for a Hybrid car that’s on order. My dilemma is; is it worth connecting the CT clamp?. When my house was built the electrician dropped a 32amp cable to the front of the house (for EV), but there isn’t any provision for any data cable. I have a 80amp DNO fuse, gas hob, electric immersion (backup) but gas heated. Only other big users are two Aircon (air to air) units (20 amps each), but rarely used.
    Other than load balancing, is there any other benefit in connecting the data cable ? It is possible but just means a load of holes to feed cable and then patch up 😒

    • @jimmyc38
      @jimmyc38 3 роки тому

      An update to this so you don’t need to answer this question now. Ohme answered this question for me. I don’t need to connect the CT clamps as it is just load balancing which I don’t need at this point. Solar will be enabled at some point in the next year or so, and it’s then that passing a LAN cable might be useful. I did enlighten Ohme as to meter monitoring systems which they can perhaps link into with their live data. I pointed out I have CT clamps on all my consumer unit circuits monitoring each circuit and therefore when they introduce solar I would be doubling up on CT clamps within my Consumer unit

Also I have seen that several of the cheap electricity deals, like Octopus, seem to be offering their cheap rate between 12.30 and 4.30am and I think I understood correctly that this can't cope with that. Seems odd looking at its other complexities with rate chasing that it cant have a simple timer - Shame it looks good otherwise.

      You can’t set a simple timer but you tell it your energy tariff and it responds to the price automatically so will charge in them hour rates if that’s when cheap electric is, You can also make a custom energy deal in the app if yours wasn’t listed and say that’s when cheap power is

    Crazy prices for a circuit board in a plastic box. These companies must be making a killing while there’s limited choice in the market.

      There’s 15 firms making chargers all same price if you can do it for less start your own charge company fact is you can’t do it for less there’s more involved and the parts and production costs are fixed

    To me, it is not one of the best you have to pay monthly fee for mobile Sim card inside because it uses 3G, 4G Mobile signal Who wants the extra cost
    Nothing seems straightforward with ev today everybody wants subscriptions an extra cost every month I just want to top up my car without paying any more

      I don’t know of a single Ohme customer paying for the SIM card….

      @@NicolasRaimo I was looking on UA-cam just to get heads up about the how the machine works until I did some research into i come across it and I said why is it not straightforward on your website they said looking into it to see if that can be changed .’to be honest you need to do your research I’ve just got off the phone because I’m having one installed and he said after three years roughly. About £3 A month Not much, but everything starts off cheap so I have cancelled. They said they’re working on one what does not have 4g mobile signal in it, but at the moment they haven’t got one ev car? Not straightforward today everybody wants something off you. You can’t use of public charging without signing up to something and if you do use contactless you get punished by paying more, you don’t go in a grocery store and pay more by contactless. Makes no sense. This EV, it’s just not straightforward. Why can’t people? just topping up like petrol or diesel? Things need to be simple, not been charged for everything

      Ohme pay sim charges for the first 3 years then id guess your electric provider might pick up the bill as be in their interests to do so.

      @@vincelemon6343 so you’re telling me my Electric provider will pick up the bill for it Why would they do that? Why your electric provider? Will not it will be costing millions of pounds from millions of customers? I don’t think so. before you know it, you will pay £10 £15 a month and people be saying I don’t want to pay it it makes no sense just don’t have a Sim card in it like a lot of them don’t you don’t need to update something. Just have a standard box you can put into your car so what happens if you don’t pay? Does the box stop working?

    I’ve only had it a day and I think the thing is a pain in the ass, why can’t it just be simple, charge and stop. I just want to plug my car in and have it start charging immediately and charge until full, or until I go out again. I get all sorts of messages, charging postponed until random times, sometimes I just get the thing sitting there doing nothing, sometimes it says charging but when I check my car it’s not charging. Some people just want a simple plug in until charged option. If someone knows how to be able to just start the unit charging immediately when I plug it in, on the app and on the outside unit, please let me know. Maybe I’m just old and useless and don’t know what I’m doing, but I didn’t find the app intuitive and easy to navigate, also when the unit is charging and you want to stop it, it’s not always possible, on the red max charge setting you can select stop charging on the main unit, but on the blue smart charging screen I couldn’t find an option to stop it from charging. 🫤
