    This charger is amazing - working alongside Intelligent Octopus Go with my Kona EV. I get 7.5p/kWh at any time of day as Octopus communicates the ideal charge times.
    The app also integrates with my Kona via the API, so it can see the battery status, preheat/cool the car etc.

    Untethered is my choice, damage a tethered cable or plug and a trician is needed, same issue on untethered, go buy another cable on overnight. Just need the correct cable spec for you’re particular charger “rate” 😊

    We had an Ohme epod fitted as a replacement for a BP pulse unit (utterly junk) It's utterly reliable & just works. The main reason for choosing it is the lack of a wifi connection, stops all issues with signal dropout.

    I have big problems using schedules with my Bmwi3. Sometimes the schedules just don't work. The App screen won't turn blue and the cable shows as disconnected. I can find no step by step guide for actually initiating a charge.
    I'm Really disappointed with the lack of documentation with a thousand quids worth of kit.

    3:20 that's incorrect! Anyone can stop the charge at any time by simply disconnecting the cable as it is not locked in any way on the charger end! By so doing your vehicle and/or vehicle's charging port can get damaged as well!
    I got it installed today, wanted to use it for first time and now I'm just pissed of and greatly disappointed! Regret the decision on getting it installed big time and don't know what to do now 👎

    • @SmartHomeCharge

      I believe it is correct. I stated that the software lock prevents tampering of the buttons on the front, and there's a setting in the app to authorise each charging session.
      In terms of someone just coming up and pulling out the cable, I think it's very unlikely this will happen. I've got a different brand of untethered charge point without a physical locking mechanism, and this has never happened. Granted, in busy neighbourhoods you *could* have the odd idiot doing this but I doubt it would be a regular occurrence if at all.
      I think the Ohme is a great choice plus it gives you access to Intelligent Octopus which is the cheapest tariff around at the moment.
      Thanks for watching.

    • @averageuserX
      @averageuserX Рік тому +1

      You can authorise every start of charge but there's nothing to prevent unauthorised stop of charge, the cable can be simply and easily just unplugged. And believe me, if I wake up in the morning and can't go to work because my car didn't charge at night - I don't care if somebody pressed the button or yanked the cable out.
      And you don't need idiots. It's enough if there are kids around. First kids will do it just for laughs or as a challenge, then all of the kids will be doing it, constantly.
      Regardless, there was a simple solution to prevent but was not implemented. And still, nothing was done to fix that failure, nothing is being done while the simple redesign of front cover to include the pins would help. Is Ohme not aware or just don't care?

    • @SmartHomeCharge
      @SmartHomeCharge  Рік тому

      @@averageuserX Yes, that's true. I don't think I said anything to the contrary in the video, which is what I was responding to in your comment. I'm not sure what I said that was incorrect in the video?
      To your overall point, yes it's physically possible for that scenario to happen, I'm just not sure how common that is going to be. We've installed more than 11,500 home charge points in the past four years and it's not come up as a problem.
      I'm not suggesting it won't be an issue or couldn't be, but I'm unsure how often it will actually happen. Time will tell.
      It may be worth feeding back to Ohme about this to get their view. I highly doubt it's an oversight or not caring, but obviously other products do have a physical lock so they've obviously decided not to implement this.
      Thanks again for watching.

    very useful video, I have same a Ohme 7.4kW ePod Home EV Charger Type 2 in black, which does not have an electronic display and is very standard. I have been using it for the last six months, and I didn't set up Timber, just charged manually. However, for the last few days, there has been a problem. Sometimes it turns on, and after a few seconds, it shuts down. The lighting display also shows different colors than it used to. Hello - there is a lock to prevent unwanted tampering of the external controls, but it doesn't physically lock the cable on the charger side. If the cable is plugged into the vehicle while charging and waiting to charge, it shouldn't be possible to remove the cable from the car.

    Mine was installed per notability just last Friday, four days ago. The engineer downloaded the app to my cell phone but couldn't get it to connect. He told me I could still use the charger by plugging both ends of the cable in and it would automatically switch on.
    I tried that this evening, and nothing happened. I messaged Ohme for advice but only got an acknowledgement. So I'm unable to charge the car, and as I'm severely disabled I'm effectively trapped in the house.
    My previous charger, easee was brilliant, just waved a fob at the box and it switched itself on, and off on completion.
    Ohme, in my limited experience, is rubbish

      Similar problems
      Ease charger was simple and you could schedule it to start at beginning of the cheap tariff during the night so all I had to do was connect cables and leave.
      This schedule on Ohme is absolutely no use at all to me.
      I’ve found I’ve been paying premium rates a lot of time as I assumed smart charge meant if I set a schedule for car to be available at the end of my cheap night tariff at 04:30 it would calculate a start time at the beginning of the cheap tariff
      It doesn’t it just charges on some unknown algorithm over several hours.
      So tonight I try leaving it set on only charge when energy is below 20 p pkwh which hopefully it’s smart enough to realise is between 12:30 and 04:30
      I’ll have to go out and plug in as late as possible just in case and will have to be up in the night to see what it’s actually doing.
      I’m with Motability as I’m guessing you are and maybe it’s worth complaining to them as it was their decision to change what to me was a simple system with the Easee charger

    Just got one of these. REALLY shocked to see you cant add more than 1 car. that's appalling. The solution from OHME support is "press switch car and feed it all your credentials" for the other manufacturer (every time). Really really short sighted and makes the charger pretty limited in its usecases.

    Just found out that motability are moving all of their EV customers over to the ohme pod, so trying to research what we are being forced into using. Is the unit fully lockable? With an rfid card to limit who can use the ohme pod? Is the app reliable and not glitchy? How tamperproof is the ohmepod? Does it allow the cable to lock in place when charging on both the ohme pod and the car? With no risk of someone unplugging mid charge? Currently have the Easee one and love it, not had any issues with it. So not exactly happy with what motability are doing this as I had to deal with being harassed by ohme for months even though they didn’t offer what I needed when I first chose to go with an ev.

    • @SmartHomeCharge
      @SmartHomeCharge  Рік тому +1

      That's a lot of questions, so not sure I can answer them all here. I'll do my best, but our written review of the ePod covers more detail:
      www.smarthomecharge.co.uk/reviews/ohme-epod-review/
      We're big fans of both the Easee One and Ohme ePod, but it does seem a little odd to replace perfectly good charge points with an alternative.
      You can lock the buttons from outside tampering, but the cable is not mechanically locked into the ePod socket as far as I know. I think it's highly unlikely someone would just unplug it but it's not physically impossible with the ePod.
      No RFID card to limit outside use, but you can set it so any charge has to be authorised, so achieves the same thing.
      App is reliable yes.
      Tamperproof, yes as described above, in the video and in our written review.
      Hope that helps but I think our video and written review answers most of your questions.
      Thanks for watching,

      Hi Danny, my Easee one was installed by your company last aug and I love it and your installer was fantastic but unfortunately I received a text and email from motability telling me that they have changed their charge point provider from Easee to ohme and that they will contact me to arrange getting it replaced with an ohme charger. What a massive waste of money! They say that” they will no longer support if any issues relating to servicing or warranty of your Easee one so if I opt out I will not be as Le to take advantage of this offer in future” I have already had taxi drivers trying to unplug my car to try and get a free charge on my electricity and caught them on camera to prove it. Thankfully my Easee one does lock both ends of the cable when charging and is rfid locked. I also like I can turn off my Easee one when I’m not using it, can the ohme epod do that? I like that the Easee one is discrete and doesn’t have a big logo and bright led screen advert itself. I just want to make sure I’m not getting bullied into having a product that doesn’t fit my needs as I’m the one that will be having to use this and pay for this for the next few years until I can go back to a petrol car. But I also don’t want to have to pay a massive repair bill if my Easee one does have any issues in the future - here’s more info from the motability website www.motability.co.uk/get-support/electric-cars/your-chargepoint/

      i will definitely be calling motability back as they couldn’t answer my questions so I emailed ohme. I just heard back from ohme and their untethered pod CAN be unplugged mid charge so the cable doesn’t lock to the unit. They tried to tell me that the cable would still lock to the car (even tho the car does that as standard) “so the cable couldn’t be stolen”. You can’t turn the unit off fully, so i would have to turn it off at the fuse board other wise it will be in standby mode with the bright blue led screen advertising it’s self along with the big ohme logo on the front. The screen brightness can be turned down but not off. Everything about the pod is all app based so no rfid key. And they don’t have the API on some car brands (including mine) So they can’t offer me what I need and will be speaking to motability, asking to please stay with the Easee one. Ohme tried their best to push me to a product that wouldn’t do what I need and are wanting to book in for the switch over very soon but I can’t agree to that until I have spoken to motability. So if you are also being contacted by ohme and motability to move over to ohme charging points definitely do your research and ask as many questions until you get the real answers.

    It doesn't lock the cable plug into the socket! Even when it's live and charging the car, anyone can walk up to the unit, pull out the cable and drop the plug into a puddle. When you return to your car, it hasn't been charged. Podpoint chargers DO lock the cable as soon as the car sends a signal that the cable is locked at the car charging port.

    My real world experience is massively different from this review. The app is glitchy as hell. It thinks it’s doing a max charge - when the car is not even plugged in! Rebooted by switching off mains, restart app, delete and reinstall app - but it still thinks it’s doing a max charge and there is no way to cancel this phantom charge.
    If I try to lock the charger buttons via the app, it tells me it’s ‘not possible to adjust solar settings while plugged in’. Right - but I’m not adjusting solar settings, it’s not plugged in and I don’t have solar (and solar is switched off in the app). Likewise I try to select ‘approve each plug-in’ - and it gives me the same useless response about solar - and just does not work.
    In my experience, this review is very wide of the mark and my real world advice is to find a charger by another manufacturer.

      Yes, that is a valid point. It is made clear on our website, but something we should have mentioned here. On the topic of data charges, Ohme's stance is three years of free data and after that they reserve the right to charge, but so far they haven't charged customers for data - and there are plenty of Ohme chargers out there older than three years.
