Fascinating and informative video for a city kid who just recently learned to eat buckwheat. My favorite thing is to soak raw hulled buckwheat overnight, then dehydrate it. Amazingly, they're like rice krispies, but more toothsome and rich. Great for all kinds of fun food making. Thanks for this video, and thank you to all farmers who keep us fed.
I just bought a hydro 510 for 1200 with a corn and bean head. What problems should I look out for? I have to put in a new rotor disc. It has the 354 diesel
Where are you guys located? And do you need any more 510 parts or runners? We know of a 510 that was shedded till a couple years ago. We are in Western KS. We are Gleaner guys, but we root for MF a little too, as long as its kicking Deere butt. :) We have a buddy that runs a 1997 (last year, 20 more HP than earlier models) 9600 JD and a 25 foot header to cut the same speed as his buddy with a 860 v8 hydro with a 30 foot 9030. The ol MF can hog the wheat like the JD can hog the fuel. :)
We normally run slower cylinder speed than recommended. We having someone walk behind with a corn scoop and catch what shakes out and adjust the air from there.
WildcatWilly You just opened up Pandora's Box for me, a kid at Christmas. You know that little round cylinder like steering Box underneath the cab of the 550 mines leakin. Do you have one that's not leaking?
I'm so busy that I will just send you where I send mine they rebuild all of my hydraulic components perfectly even the throwaway cylinders for lifting the grain table Heartland machine & supply Co 217-722-2879 they are awesome guys you will want to be extremely careful when removing and installing that if you get any dirt into the system it's very problematic

The 510 sure is running good. Thanks for the video.
That’s one clean running combine considering how old it is. No smoke !!!
Perkins 6 cylinder with a very good engine naturally aspirated. At the time it was the industry standard.
A really cool machine, i like watching combines do there amazing work.
Thanks
My combine is a 1978 Class senator 60, love to grow this crop. How do you dry it and what moisture do you store at please.
Nice is the walk platform add on?did a harvest with hydrostatic grain hogs wish they would have the extensions

I would look at your belts really good change your oil and antifreeze give it heck
That machine will blaze some Buckwheat
Why cut it so wet. Why not leave it to dry. You sell it for what flour and how much for.
Thinking about growing it here in the UK
Thank you.
Right around the time it starts to dry out good we would get a heavy rain and it would knock all the seeds off.
It is a really fun crop to grow I would recommend it.
@@wildcatwilly what yield per acre, cost planting and profit margin please
That would be a question for Charles.
I planted 10 acres of buckwheat today for my bees. What is your market for it or use. Thanks Clint indiana.
We sell it thanks for watching
Gettin ready to do the same for my bees here in CO.
I hope you get the same phenomenon we had you could just stand still in the field and here it buzz with activity
So you basically pick buckwheat wet so the stems don't break up?
Does buckwheat have a falling weight like standard wheat?
No it does not.
@@wildcatwilly thanks for the info, just wondered if they graded buckwheat some way
Not that I know of. Where are you from?
@@wildcatwilly WNC back in day 1910 to 1920s we grew quite a bit of buckwheat
What is WNC?
do you have a video of how you clean the seed? If you do that
I believe I do back on the channel.

How do you set your combine up for buckwheat?I have a 410 and had a lot of loss out the back
Do you have a manual?
We normally run slower cylinder speed than recommended. We having someone walk behind with a corn scoop and catch what shakes out and adjust the air from there.
No, had it dialed in pretty clothes for we made a few small adjustments from there could just never get it where I wanted it
Close for wheat
I believe the cylinder speed for buckwheat is half the speed of wheat you might have been overworking your sieves.
U need to set the old girl as they will clean grain very well
Thanks for watching
I don't remember them being that quiet.
The 510 western special with the 350 GM gas engine was loud.
My 550 is Hydrostatic does that mean I have a hydro 550?
Farmall Fanatic yes you just push the level forward And backwards?
WildcatWilly yep and changed the filter once a year in the back tank.
I have parts if needed good old machines have to keep them running!!!
