Mike, I started hauling dirt with B-81 around the North East back in the Sixtys. I have been driving a new Pete and sometimes a new tri axle Mack. Both Automatics around the city. Trust me , it’s like being on vacation!!!!! I shifted so much I had to have shoulder surgery.. love your videos. Keep it up .. Jim
Hi Mike, I drive a 21/22 T880 with a 18 speed mantran. The jakes come on when it goes 5 over the set cruise mph. It also has 46 rears. Been buried to the frame in mud. Yeah it’s a logging truck. Still hasn’t missed a beat. For sure a good truck
I really enjoy watching your channel and I also have a kenworth w990 with the 605 Cummins 18 speed trans MANUAL [CLUTCH) I have been driving since 1986 and this is the best riding truck I have ever bought and I have always purchased PETERBILTS no more for me I'll die with this truck it's my last new truck. Thanks for what you do for us truckers. Keep up the good work you put in on your channel. Thank you BOSTON TRUCKER STYLE
Nice Kenworth. I like the flat floor . My 660 had that step down into the sleeper. Not a fan of automatic transmission. Just had a starter issue the other day and was able to pull start it and get home. Automatic transmission would have been a tow bill . Have a great week.
So cool.video.and I always like to meet Ingrid someday as well!! And I drive the same automatic and same engine!! hahah what a fun splashes of this video
Raining, people walking out everywhere, cars pulling out from both sides , crazy side roads , 3 instructors, and,,oh by the way there is 45,000 lbs in the trailer 😳 Wow Mike,,
Wow I’m not an automatic guy, I do think it’s the way to go with traffic. It looked as if you were driving the family car. Maybe the auto cuts back on fatigue. I’m still a shifter at heart. Thanks Mike.
Hey Mike, my truck, Goliath was on your right in the background starting at around 13 minutes and 22 seconds, until about 13 minutes and 33 seconds. You could even see him through the side window in the bunk when the cameraman flipped the camera around.
O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 I was just NOT able to go this year. That 990 was already running when you got there & so we’re the others. Don’t they have the no idle system installed? Or is than an over ride for that now? Did you have fun driving that big automatic 18 speed KW? Automatic transmissions have their place in the world, especially city driving, but I’m sure they take time to get used to. My brother had a cabover Pete that had 13 auto. He loved it! I just wasn’t thinking that Kenworth was 100 years old yet. I know better. It just wasn’t on the top of my thoughts though. Gonna have to check them out. I’m just not a DEF lover & all this regen stuff! I do love a good hood. Blessings! 🥰😎✌️
People were going in and out of the rest drive trucks pretty steady but that's a good point, I'll have to find out. I do not enjoy any automatics in any truck so even if I drive it with a smile on, don't read into it. 😁👋
@@TheBostonTrucker 🇺🇸I get ya my friend. I’ve driven auto straight trucks & really liked them. My brother owned a cabover Pete with an automatic. He loved it & really regretted selling it. He drove it a lot to Colorado & California. It was a beautiful white truck, but I never got to drive it. He had 2 cabovers at the time & the automatic was his favorite. Go figure! Hey, I would get crazy for a chance to drive one. I would drool a bit, but all this regen stuff just turns me off! Too expensive for my check book! I love the old stuff too much! It’s always good to look at them though. Peace & Grease my friend! 🥰😎✌️
I’d be interested to know your real thoughts that only you had on the 990. I’m currently renting a 680 and it’s a throw a way. I have no desire to be in the new cab. Cheap and very unrefined.
I didn’t know they were doing demo drives, was it open for everybody or just famous UA-camrs like The Boston Trucker? I would’ve loved the opportunity to drive to 990.
Western Distributing in Denver has the very first production W990 . It’s a day cab. I had a chance to have one, but that hood is so friggen wide. Interior is nice though. So I opted for the 389 Pete instead.
Let me try and think about all the things I love more than having two 30 something salesmen backseat drivers tell me all the awesome things about an automatic transmission that was engineered to perform like a manual with a competent driver... 1) Shifting my own gears...
People get so conditioned to the same thing year after year. The way I look at it, that 18-speed transmission doesn’t earn you any more money than the new school automatic transmission. The 18-speed pays $180,000.00 per year as does the automatic
I do love the smell of a new Kenworth in the morning. ❤❤
Had a blast thanks for letting me co pilot Mike!! Thanks to Colby and Ryan with KENWORTH!!
990 is the nicest looking new truck. Future classic!! It reminds me of the first time I saw an Autocar AT64F in the 80s. Sexy!

I would be the exact same way. Mike is an old school trucker. Never heard of an automatic will never own one. Same!!!

Really enjoyed the video. You would look good sitting in a W990 back in Boston with that shiny East dump trailer behind it.
Thanks Tim maybe someday.

Thx Mike......I'm still a W900 guy👍🏻👍🏻.....is that Ingrid Brown from the Boone NC area????
Looks beautiful
Mike was being nice he really doesn't like automatics 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 A real trucker!!
That 990 looks great
For a new truck it's really nice.
I'll take the 900L ,18 sp.,old school any day. Thanks for the video Mike
When it's time I'd consider it.
Great answer Mike, thanks.

Automatics aren't for me!
Don’t worry, I don’t know how to drive an auto shift either. 🤣🤣🤣

Thanks Mike for the Zimmerman shout-out...😂 Boston Trucker Style....
Beautiful but I’ll stick with the trucks that don’t have to have all those emissions garbage that keeps us from making money

I love how you put that! 😁 I really would need to be out on my own with the truck to really grow an opinion.
We say fridgedar in Northern NJ

Open for everyone just had to sign up at the Kenworth booth.
@@TheBostonTrucker I wish I would’ve known that
Did you de-louse after that automatic??
Make sure you go say hi to Charlie Trucker
That's right! It's a "fridgerata" (Baltimore native here)
No disrespect, but I am not exactly feeling automatic transmissions.
If you had that truck you might be wanting to go back on the road Boston Trucker Style 😂😂😂😂
That's very funny Glinda! I mean John 🤣😁

Can't go wrong with either one.
mike she didnt have to twist your arm for another lap!
I'm guessing that 001 of 900, has an 86" sleeper instead of 72"
Probably right
Uufff 💯
But does it drive like an RV?? Like the star car?
Lol no much better than the Allison.
Did it shift like the pinnacle?
990 is sharp.
I agree!
Woah woah woah… Mike in an automatic?!
🤣🤣
Means it has 3 pedals and a shifter stick
👍
I am sorry but that takes all of the fun out of driving TRUCK'S no automatic for me😊

I would love to have a bunk that big but I would lose cars
Looks like musical chairs
🤣
old school you had to man handle it new school it drive its self
I love my 990. 565 x15 18 speed with 3:90 rears. The only thing I don’t like is that stupid seat.
Interesting about the seat
Big frig??? Where i saw a cooler with a pretend frezzer. Kenworth needs to step it up big time to be called the worlds best.
😆😆😆

I call it a fridge
Me too
That w900 is the 86" studio not 72"
Got me wishing, as a judge Mike you need to know your trucks bud,
Haha sometimes the words that come out my mouth don't match my brain but I'll have to study up 👋😁
@@TheBostonTrucker hahaha all good Mike me too
I really like that w990, you didnt give that automated much of a chance
