    I used dollar store seeds last year like tomato cucumber watermelon plus some and they worked just fine. Also Basil and marigolds work great at keeping pests away and worse case diatomaceous earth which is still organic.

      Good to know. I keep diatomaceous earth on hand! How did the watermelon taste? I've been thinking about getting a pack the watermelon seeds..

    The "hmms" were cracking me up. You got this!

      Lol thank you! Those "hmms" was a translation for "I've gotta get bigger pots for this and I don't want to!" 😂

    I’ve been waiting everyday to get the stackable planters. Nice choices!

      Now that I think about it, I haven't seen them recently. I only saw them when they first put them out..I hope at least one of the locations near you restocks them!

      Hey Jake! If you live in an area that has a Family Dollar, or $0.99 store, check those out! They have their own versions as well. Maybe even Dollar General, but I can't remember.

    rule of thumb is the larger the seed the deeper it needs to be planted. Lettuce needs very little soil it. I often just pack it down with a hoe or walk on it. Loose leaf lettuce such as black seed simpson you can cut a few times and it will grow back. Loose leaf is much easier to grow than Romain. My favorite lettuce is buttercrunch bib, it take more hot days than other types. Also I do not your taste in hot peppers but I found Hungarian wax (wax means hot) to be more more heat than I like.

      Thanks for the info! Now I'm wondering if I planted my lettuce seeds too deep. I like all peppers, mild and hot! What are your favorite peppers to grow?

      @@vesgardens I stick with old types, California Wonder, (or Jupiter if I can find the seeds) I like sweet banana peppers, and lunch box, the small sweet peppers. I am not one for heat although they are good for your health.

      Thank you! Never thought to grow banana peppers.

    Glad you changed your mind.Once you start, you can't stop.The taste is amazing.I just got a Burpee self--watering seed starting system for less than $10.It has 36 cells, dome, tray, self-watering mat, growing pellets and more...will water for 10 days.(walmart) The Dollar Tree seeds are good, I use them too.I have to wait one more month to start (too cold).You picked out some nice seeds!

    • @vesgardens
      @vesgardens  3 роки тому

      That self watering system sounds like a good deal! I'm waiting, well trying to wait, to start more seeds too, because of the cold. I realized starting indoors isn't the best option for me. What do you plan on growing?

      When I was active in ministry I use to all the seeds left over from a hardware store. These are the same as the Dollar Tree varieties. I have sent these open pollination types to a pastor in Zambia, Africa to support the churches work with feeding the poor and orphans who lost parents to AIDS. They worked great in Zambia, types such as white Spanish onion, Rutgers tomatoes nantess carrots and Danish ball head cabbage. They really like Chinese cabbage. And hot peppers.

      That's strange. You should ask them when they'll be getting a big lawn & garden shipment next time you go!
