Hi I have a few questions, my pad does work but it doesn’t show my mouse is that what this is? Will this erase anything? This is a school chrome book so should I wait for my teacher to do it?
Yes this is exactly your problem and the fix in the video should resolve it, it will not erase any data as all of your data should be backed up on your Google Drive, Google does state that it may erase downloads, but I have never had that happen.
It will reboot the device, and it will sign you out of your profiles, but it should not delete anything within your profiles unless your Chromebook is owned by a school and they have it set to do that.
Is this 'hard reset' the same as 'powerwash' ? Because if it IS, you then wind up having lost downloads if not backed up with a flashdrive, and all your 'extensions' like Ad Blocker will be deleted, plus most your bookmarks/forums/UA-cam, et al will require re-signing up to which is a right bummer if you've forgotten your passwords and/or user name for each of them.. Please, MTS, clarify if the two, 'hard reset' and 'powerwash' are one in the same or not...
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE VIDEO, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MONTHS IM BACK IN ACTION ON MY LAPTOP, THE COMPANY TOLD ME I HAD TO PAY THEM TO HELP ME FIX IT AND IM JUST SUPER AMAZED THAT IT WORKED!!!, THANK YOU AGAIN, YOUR THE BEST!!
@Will - nope, it should not delete anything, you probably do have some files in your local downloads that you might want to back up eventually just in case your school does decide to wipe your Chromebook clean. Hopefully this issue fixes your problem, let me know and good luck 🤞
Thanks for this video. I almost was ready to buy another chrome book. I tried everything to get this touchpad to work and nothing worked except your hard restart!
What about when the touchpad wont physically click anything? I can touch on the touchpad to access what is needed but I can not click and hold to drag anything.
Nope it does not reset your Chromebook or format it or remove everything, it only resets the connection between your trackpad and the chrome book and touchscreen. Hope that helps 😉
I tried this but it doesn't work. sadly i just got this laptop and s couple days later the mouse pad stopped working. If you know how to fix this i would greatly appreciate it if you informed me.
The one in the video is a Dell 5190 2 in 1 and there is a thin ribbon that connects the track pad to the system board inside. If you own the device then you can find a video that shows you how to reattach it. However if a school owns it then I would have them repair it. The ribbon could be simply disconnected, which would be an easy fix, however it could also be damaged or trackpad itself could be damaged. You would know until you or a repair person opened it up.
Technically yes, you will have a curser on your Chromebook again, but it will not make the trackpad function you will have to use the mouse all permanently. 👍🏻
My Issue: I got chrome os flex and the cursor appears on windows but not on flex, i want it to work... im currently using a usb mouse but i hate it... please help me
i got a new acer chromebook, but when I turned it on the first time the touchpad is not working at all. no cursor. so I set up the chromebook with touchscreen. the I went to setting, device, and there is no touchpad option there. I hard reset the chromebook. still no touchpad functionality. what is wrong
This video saved me in the past, it worked for me for some time, but now it doesn’t work anymore. The three button above the touchpad from my Lenovo Thinkpad clicks by itself and doesn’t allow me to normally use the laptop, it is a big pain. Don’t know what to do anymore… Anyone knows any other tip?
Still doesn't work.. Can anybody help me ? The touchpad on my chromebook isn't responding, I have no cursor on the screen and cannot click on anything. However when the screen turns black because of inactivity, It restarts when I swipe my fingers on the touchpad . But still no cursor. It's working when I plug in a mouse but I really need the touchpad. thank you
this actually worked thank you so much my touchpad hasnt working so i had to use my brother's mouse form his monitor so i decide to look what what to do to fix the touchpad of my chromebook and this actually worked i dont have to use my brothers monitor mouse anymore also sorry if this makes no sense
This fix should take care of that as well, if it doesn’t work the first time, power your Chromebook off for 10 min or so and try again. If that doesn’t fix it then your touch screen may be damaged. 😢
Sorry to hear the process is not working for you, I would suggest powering off your chromebook and several minutes and then try the process again. Some have had success with that. If that still does not fix your problem then your track pad may be damaged and you will have to have it repaired. 😞
I already used this method, but the issue is still there. after I used my mouse on my chromeook, I need to tap the touchpad with two fingers in order to do a right click. how do i do a normal right click, anybody knows ?
Sounds like the track pad may be stuck, try gently pressing the track pad all over its surface and then watch the video and try again. If that doesn't resolve the issue your track pad may be broken.
If the Chromebook does not reboot during this fix, then your power button may have some problems. Can you press and hold the power button and the device shuts off?
Hello. I commented yesterday saying it worked and it did but I noticed today I had to do the same thing again. If my mouse has not completely disappeared, I have to fool around with it to find it and sometimes the mouse doesn’t move and is frozen for a couple of seconds. My question is why does it keep doing this? My computer is clean and I’m pretty sure no dirt is under the mouse pad. If you could let me know that’d be great! :)
Sorry to hear that this keeps happening, I have some folks that tell me they have to do it 2 or 3 times before it sticks and others that tell me once was enough. You can always try a factory reset on the Chromebook or taking it back to the store of your tech department.
Sounds like the track pad may be stuck, try gently pressing the track pad all over its surface and then watch the video and try again. If that doesn't resolve the issue your track pad may be broken.
@Holly Yes, sorry to hear that it didn’t work for you, there are a number of other things that could be wrong, the thin ribbon that connects your mouse track pad to your system board inside could have come loose, or the trackpad itself is damaged and won’t ever work again, I suggest you take it back to the manufacturer, or your school for repair.
