- [S5 E07] Why The Women’s Liberation Movement Fractured
During its inception, the Women’s Liberation Movement was rooted in anti-capitalist and anti-racist ideals, pushing for equality for all. Today, however, feminism tends to focus mainly on gender equality. In this episode of Capitalism Hits Home, Dr. Fraad discusses how that fracture happened and the deliberate forces behind it. Now more than ever we need an intersectional and collaborative approach to our social movements, with involvement from everyone.
Capitalism Hits Home with Dr. Harriet Fraad (CHH) is a @democracyatwrk production. The show addresses the intersection of capitalism, class, and personal lives, and explores what is happening in the economic realm and its impact on our individual and social psychology. “Marxism always was the critical shadow of capitalism. Their interactions changed them both. Now Marxism is once again stepping into the light as capitalism shakes from its own excesses and confronts decline.”

Did not know the extent of CIA involvement. Thank you for clarifying the reasons for the demise of the movement, as I have wondered that myself.
WOW thank you for educating me. I had no idea about the CIA involvement in changing the trajectory of the women's movement. When I think of the current animosity among men and women, this talk kind of put the missing puzzle piece in for me. Things makes so much more sense now.
Instead of Man vs Woman, I see the root cause as being Capitalism vs the Family. I am a male, so I might be seeing this wrongly. Man and woman, side by side, working together is how it should be. That is the natural way. That is what I believe.
I see no reason why not.
Fantastic explanation of what happened. Divide and rule strategy.
This is a stunning admission, and I applaud you for your candor. Gabriel Rockhill is a wealth of information regarding CIA involvement in Leftist and worker movements post-WWII if anyone is interested in understanding the current state of the US. An interview with him would be fantastic. Kudos, this is great work.
Thank you Dr,Fraad-For a beautifully done and probative presentation
Hello… Thank you so much, I loved listening and learning your sincere, beautiful point of view! You helped to shine light on what has long been hidden! I hope and pray for more light to illuminate what needs to be seen by everyone. Robin🙋🏻♀️🌺
I have been enjoying Capitalism Hits Home for a while now. This one is easily my favourite episode. "Nine servants"?! Anyway, thank you Doctor and D@W so much for all your work.
time to break the class ceiling
so gratifying, to listen and learn, and have your inner-thoughts affirmed.
Agree completely. But also stay-at-home mothers need respect for their hard job well done.
No greater disparity between the respect due and the respect received than a stay-at-home mom.
The fact that it is uncompensated labor is one thing, but this labor is the most damned with the faint praise for a woman's "true calling", yet is horrendously under-funded by gov't and church alike when something happens to her one source of income.
Jacinda Arden's popularity has no doubt diminished now that we all know she's aligned with the World Economic Forum global reset agenda. Disappointed too, to hear about Gloria Steinham, I didn't know that. Always sad when heroes sell out to the patriarchy.
That may be a nod to the reality of her country's geography.
Your claim of Arden’s involvement of a global reset agenda does not invalidate what Dr. Fraad is saying. Fallacy of the red herring, five yard penalty.
This hairstyle and color palette, as well as neckline, are your most flattering!
!!! Blow mind. I look forward to sharing my time experience. Some listen. Thank you thank you so much. Experience and insight.
I grooved on it 👍
As a big supporter of the original movement, it's good to see women taking time to step back and see why the original calls for equality for all (both men and women, and in terms of class) has gone terribly off track. It's do to this that has more recently left men wanting their own movement of the Men's Right Movement to get equality mostly in custody and divorce courts. There would be no need for that if the original movement hadn't lost it's way and now men and women are more divided then ever. I didn't know but not surprised that the CIA played a role. Not many people know that MLK was a socialist. He understood that social economic class was one of the biggest bearers to equality. The richest black people from Opera to Obama relate far more to the rich then they do to regular Black America. Same goes with any other race when you factor in class.
Thank you 🌎 ✊️ 🌹 🗽
Thank you for this.
Yup. This is you do it. Sure, we have differences, but at the end of the day, we're all people. All of our problems that people have with one another are really just different aspects of the same issues.
I made the following comment on "Joti Brar on International Women's Day" video at the Prolitarian TV of the UK Communist Party": Quote
Harriet Farad of Democracy at Work's youtube channel, "Capitalism Hits Home" has been doing a series on the same need for men and women to join in class unity, with a lot of American Historical background. It would be great if you both could appear together to bring the need for international cooperation in the struggle!

Good history lesson, or should I say herstory lesson. I was aware of state interference in social movements including trades unions. Not though about Gloria S. specifically. Shameful. Was wondering if the early movement had developed an internationalist perspective I was still a youngster in the sixties and in my mind I saw the anti Vietnam war, peace movement, equal rights and womens movement as pretty much the same thing. Anti system. I did not understand the economics underlying the system was fundamentally designed to exploit and maintain unequal social relations. Marx got me there. Thank you Dr. Fraad.
I guess it all comes down to class struggle. The first tenet is always economic equality, or at least parity.
Is it possible to get a transcript of this talk?
use a little cut and paste from the transcript function in UA-cam, but be aware it is AI generated and so has a lot of mistakes in most cases.
Interesting claim about CIA agents. Do you have more information you could recommend that would back that claim? Thank you
What was even more vile was the strange popularity of abortions with a multitude of free clinics almost glamorizing abortion, because they needed the fetuses for stem cell research that was starting to get big.
Bourgeois capital itself was fractured is fractured even more which after plaster must be broken what marxist demands,it means marxist economics came to remove bourgeois accumulation
Wish you good times with struggle
Time to break the class system. 1970 on reading the classics, subscribing to Ms magazine first year. Attended consciousness raising womens group, got my Our Bodies, Our Selves, yadda yadda as a rural Orange County NY Freshman in high school! Self taught in movement. Yuppie women took over. Attended nyu and learned they were all Pre-money. Steinam took over. Even volunteered for Abzug campaign.
Talk about Indigenous womens liberated culture and Sally Rosch (sic?) book on how white women in founding of America observed better way to govern with equality.
That movement has ruined the family structure
When things go sideways, look for the CIA to be involved...
Misandry is good for business. After all, the more you can denigrate and belittle a man, the less you have to pay him.
no you cant have kids and a career cuz the kids suffer
You can with decent daycare
@@lascreen3198 so you need to be rich to afford this balance? What about the poor who can’t afford it ?
