It only occurred to me recently how old MK8 is, how it’s actually a last gen game that is still getting attention and new content, and is selling well regardless. The new Mario Kart is going to be an instant system seller.
They had to call it Switch 2, so there is no doubt it is a new successor console. They learnt from the wii U. If they call it Switch XL or super Nintendo switch (switch 360, switch ONE...) people may think it's just the same with a bigger screen.
But it isn't a completely new console, call it what you want but it's switch pro without the name Obviously we need more info but at this point the upgrade appears to be less of a upgrade than Xbox one and one X was 🤷
People have said that about the Wii U for forever, but was that Really even a significant factor? Or was it simply that the Wii U didn't have many hard hitting games? I think that if the "Super Switch" had a strong enough exclusive library, people would figure out real quick that it was a brand new console, ya know?

The PS5 is leaps and bounds ahead of the the PS4 Pro and the Switch 2 is also leaps and bounds ahead of the original Switch. 4-6 times faster (handheld vs docked) on top of having 3x the RAM (much, much better RAM with hugely better bandwith), a proprietary version of DLSS (48 tensor cores) and minor RT features (2 RT cores, enough for some same very basic lighting and shadow adjustments). In terms of tflops it's technically slower than a PS4 Pro by about 33% but then it has 50% more memory with 50% slower bandwith. However, the PS4 Pro does not have DLSS. If you factor that in, you'll find that on average games will feel and perform faster and better on a Switch 2 than on a PS4 Pro. While technically being slower under the hood. DLSS is going to be a massive carry here. Expect many games to have 540p/720p/900p/1080p internal rendering upscaling to 1080p/1440p/1800p/2160p.
The Switch has a LOT of RPGs and JRPGs. The Switch 2’s possible mouse function would open up many Strategy games like turned based to the masses without the need for a laptop
People keep saying that them showing the stick rotating is addressing the drift from the first Switch, but they also show the buttons getting pressed down. It's just a "check out our tech, imagine yourself messing around with it" bit
I'm a local truck driver, I play on my Switch OLED daily. Either while laying across my cab in my hammock during my 1hr lunch or tabletop mode on the steering wheel waiting at shippers. My Switch lives at work in my road bag. But so do my Mobapad HD joycons. It's an amazing device with that OLED screen and those aftermarket joycons. I've put hundreds of hours into BOTW, TOTK, Metroid Dread, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, TMNT: Splintered Fate, Hades, Bastion, Mario Odyssey, DK: Tropical Freeze.. the list goes on. So I'm torn between being excited about what's new and knowing it'll take years for the aftermarket to replace my Mobapad HD experience. I'll probably be a day one with the DBrand Killswitch ASAP, but I can only hope there's some great game experiences to follow. I doubt with those trailer bezels and the leaks it'll be day one OLED, but that would concrete my decision. Also, concerned we didn't see SD Card support...
Got an OLED a couple years ago as my first Switch and I exclusively play in handheld on that thing. So nice. Also playing through Prince of Persia The Lost Crown and it's such a perfect handheld game. I was so late to the Switch but I'm glad I'm on board now.

“Switch 2” is without a doubt the safest option. I am glad they went with that. I don’t want to risk another Wii U situation. Rumor has it that Switch 2 will have DLSS. Maybe Nintendo will call it “Super mode” when they market the Switch 2.

The games that aren't supported at all are obviously things like LABO in general, games that are partially incompatible are games like 1-2 switch in which like, the eating competition minigame used the IR sensors. Pretty simple stuff.
Also my guess as to what the "C" button is, could it mean "cursor?" So anything requiring touch controls there may be a system-wide cursor feature in which you can use the mouse-con? Exciting if true.

I think people are seeing this as tame because they’re viewing it from the perspective of Nintendo’s home console history. Their handheld history has always been more iterative: the original Game & Watch -> Gameboy -> Gameboy Pocket -> Gameboy Color -> Gameboy Advance -> Gameboy Advance SP -> DS -> DS Lite -> DSi - 3DS -> 2DS -> 3DS XL -> New 3DS are all iterations.

game and watch to gameboy i would not call iterative. it´s gameboy -gameboy color. even if gameboy color was kind of borderline new console gameboy advanced the real sequel sp the same but backlit new gen ds to dsi. dsi similar to gameboy color. a bit more umph. but still about the same. and then the 3ds generation, which from what i know it´s 2ds that´s the biggest difference, with no clamshell design and no 3d. different generations with some mostly physical iterations. in there generation. the switch 2 is not really a iteration of the switch it is a new console that based on the leaks is several times more powerful, if the leaks is completely true that is. with a very similar design. But base on that it´s a similar hybrid. There is no real reason to change that much, but sure they could have made the control a bit more comfortable and such..
Also, after waiting 7 years, I finally got a Switch a month ago, and I fucking love it, so I'm only experiencing now what everyone else has experienced years ago, playing Breath of the Wild, and I am hooked, haven't touched my PS4 in 3 weeks at this point, and that's big for me, so where I will be keeping up with all Switch 2 news, for now i am happy with my Hyrule Edition Switch Lite and its all i need...
I wouldn’t totally discount a new Zelda game popping up soon. Tears of the Kingdom was a DLC ballooned into a full game. Since many assets were reused, large parts of the Zelda team could have been working on a new Zelda title, and as TOTK matured and reached refinement stages, even more resources could have shifted to the new title. Add in Nintendo’s tendency to sit on finished games, and it’s possible a new Zelda is further along in development than anyone thinks.
I honestly think with how the gaming market is now and how the wii u sold nintendo is definitely keeping it safe with the switch 2. And I honestly am happy the switch has been my favourite console and I'm not a huge nintendo guy.
All i knew is that it was coming and roughly when it was being announced.. so i was genuinely happy and excited with the new design and everything.. I understand alot of people in the know were disappointed in the actual reveal.
If I have to money to spend when it comes, I'll get it. The reveal would've been so much better if we didn't already see it in leaks, but also we know more than what they revealed.
The mouse Joy-Con functionality is huge, and I wouldn't be disappointed if it's the "main gimmick." Imagine the possibilities for Mario Maker (and a possible return for Mario Paint), as well as DS/3DS games on Nintendo Switch Online. So excited to see more!
I bought a Nintendo Switch on launch and I mainly played Smash Bros on it with friends. After that I've played maybe 3 games total on it and every time I travel I take it with me but don't play it. All that being said, I still want the Switch 2. I don't own Mario Kart 8 but getting the new one on release sounds fun. If older Switch games get better performance I could definitely be persuaded to play some stuff I missed such as Xenoblade 3 or the XCX remake that I've never played the original of.
What if they just did this preview in reaction to it being leaked, so they have a bit of control of the release of whatever information is left. With the proper event coming in April with games, quirks, UI etc.
My guest for what isn’t backwards compatible is probably going to be like Nintendo Labo, and things of that nature I feel like all the other games will probably transition over seamlessly other than those. Maybe even like let’s go switch because of the infrared sensors.
I use my switch a few times a year during the holidays when the family is over. I think what makes Nintendo for me is their inclusive party games and couch co-op. The mouse feature seems cool and hopefully the system is more durable and fixed the joy con drift. Really for me , and i think for most people are the games. I need good ass games, and unfortunately the games im into are usally just on PC. If nothing seems interesting then im more than happy playing party games on my current switch few times a year.
I personally think before the April 2nd date we will know about the internals of the Switch 2 Such as the Battery (maybe not battery life tho), Screen type, type of sticks being used in the Joy Cons (& perhaps if they are even called Joy Cons), what chip is being used, what type of stroage is being used ect so then they have alot more time to show how everything works So i think April 2nd will be showing/talking about Price, Launch date/pre order date, Everything that comes with the Switch 2, Battery life, Joy Con battery life, showing off the mouse function, Launch games (& maybe a small few other 2025 games) & perhaps showing off the UI so they can then showoff what the mystery C button does however that can just be a random video dropped on YT where they show off/talk about the changes within the OS such as the UI, Eshop, Mii maker & any other new features such as messaging/voice chat, the Music App being integrated with the system (like it already should have been) ect
Being in the UK when I saw the Nintendo Direct date I got almost too excited because I read the date as being 4th February this year .. not as I later sadly discovered April the 2nd this year . Damn the different calendar layouts 🫣

As for games im betting at least within the first year the following - 3D Mario (Holiday title) - Mario Kart (Launch title) - Metroid Prime 4 (Launch title) - A Life Sim/Sim game or Strategy game to show off the mouse function (Launch title) - A game similar to 1-2-Switch, Nintendo Land, Face Raiders ect to show off all the functionalities of the Switch 2 & its controller (Launch title) - A Zelda port/remaster/remake (Fall release) - Yoshi game (Summer release) - More sports in Switch Sports.. im begging you Nintendo give me Baseball & Boxing!! (Summer release) & If i am to be true with all of that (obviously more third party & indie games will come out for Switch 2 in 2025) then i think thats a pretty solid year & I will also say i expect a Animal Crossing game in 2026 i mean id be pretty shocked if we didnt idk just seems like a perfect time for one

While a mouse is the farthest from an innovative input method, it hasn't really been used in consoles as a main controller feature! Nintendo could also innovate the mouse by coupling it with motion sensing, so that it could take account of the orientation and velocity of the controllers at the same time as sense the position with the optical sensor. The fact that every single Switch 2 has the mouse function built-in should make it a much more used feature.

So this isn't to be rude or try to be smarter than you, but "Farthest" is usually used to describe the superlative in physical distance. Whereas "Furthest" is used more figuratively. Like in the context you just spoke. Regarding your comment about the mouse innovation, whilst that's true, looking at the teaser, it appears to require an add-on for the mouse. It pops out of some sort of add-on at the end of that bit, it's only visible for like half a second. But I'm wondering if every switch 2 will have it, or if it will require an additional add-on. Then again those could just be the wrist-band adapters.
I have been thinking this for a long time. That the new Switch 2 could also switch to VR mode. This could be the next big gaming step for Nintendo and all gamers. Making it, a 3 in 1, they just need to make a pheripheral where you insert the console, and we already have the joycons for each hand for more inmerse gaming So what if.... For me this would be revolutionary. They could also make accesories like the virtual glove, etc. Maybe with 3.8 teraflops its insufficient, but maybe with the DLSS Nintendo could make it happen.
I have complaints to make about Nintendo's decisions as a company sometimes, but I'm perfectly happy with a "simple" Switch 2 reveal. I have a big backlog of Switch games and being able to actually enjoy them without worrying about bad framerates will be very nice. Same thoughts on the name - Switch 2 is very concise, and doesn't run the risk of confusing people like the Wii U did. When Nintendo and ESPECIALLY Xbox have had that problem in the past, Playstation's direct naming scheme starts seeming very appealing.
Honestly, I would be a little more excited had I not already bought an OLED when that came out. My brother, who has a base switch, was also pretty underwhelmed.
Nintendo was all about power until the GC failed. Now that they have a successful concept. Making it more powerful is all we need. Mouse control will be cool for FPS, RTS, Adventure games, mario maker type games and menu stuff.

I think they decided to just keep going with what works. They also knew they couldn't get crazy with the name like no Super Switch, they had to be clear that it was a new console so just adding a 2 was the way to go. I think it will have some kind of "thing" which is probably the mouse feature but i don't see it being super useful as most people don't have solid surfaces sitting on a couch or in bed but we'll see. The button is probably a share button if i had to guess. My questions are mainly about the screen itself and also how is the output in docked mode. I'm sure they're using something similar to Hall sensors to fix stuck drift. I'm also really excited to see what the switch lite 2 will be like as I never docked our Switch much. Overall I likey.
I'm still not ruling out them doing the Virtual Boy 2, with a headset that plugs in with a cord to the top of the docked switch 2. There is an AR patent that uses the mouse sensor on the joycons so it's not a stretch. Regardless, I think I'll be happy with it. But they definitely didn't do enough with the reveal

I feel the chip/connection point will definitely break over time especially if you aren't careful with the system. My bigger issue though is the kickstand looks extremely flimsy even in the trailer at the max angle displayed it looks like it was about to snap so I'm concerned with that as well. I'm also hoping they've fixed joy con drift but I highly doubt it
I've noticed myself going back to my switch more and more this past year. My hope is that with rumored more third party support this time around Nintendo forces these shmucks to bring back legitimate split screen! The switch made everyone realize just how great that experience still is in modern gaming, it's time for Activision/EA/Ubisoft to bring it back.
I think the biggest question is why. Just because the switch worked doesn’t mean do the same thing over. Otherwise there would have been a GameCube 2 or N64 2 or something else that’s a sequel.
I am seeing a decent amount of people complaining about how underwhelming it is and I'm a bit curious what would have met these peoples expectations. Don't get me wrong I get it. Nintendo has been known for their big gimmicks on their consoles in recent years e.g.(Wii, Wii U, Switch). All of them changed a lot since the previous generation. But what MAJOR thing could Nintendo change without them compromising the core of the Switch? Personally, I am very happy about the mouse feature and I think people are just sort of forgetting about it because it wasn't very visible in the trailer. In my opinion that mouse feature has the most potential out of any other smaller gimmick Nintendo has done e.g.(3d screen on 3ds, HD rumble joy cons). Of course a year into the consoles life the mouse might just stop being supported in games like lots of other gimmicks Nintendo has had but like other people have mentioned having an in-built mouse on the switch 2 is very nice. It could just make navigating the menus a bit nicer, significantly increase the feeling of games like Metroid Prime 4 with proper mouse controls, Games with denser menus or when there is just lots of things crowded together that would be impractical to scroll through with a joy stick. From the leaks and the trailer is seems like to me that the switch 2 is everything it needed to be. Just a substantial improve on the amazing foundation of the switch. If you were one of the people who was underwhelmed with the Switch 2 I would be very interested if you could comment why and specifically what would have made you more interested.
I think the things that aren't backward compatible will be things like Ring Fit Adventure where the old joy con needed to attach to the rng. I don't know of much else like that, but that's an example.
Im honestly surprised that so many people think the joycons sliding was a feature. I feel like watching controllers slide and fly around is just standard console trailer stuff. I really dont think thats a festure and was just a trailer thing.

I think the whole issue is Nintendo missed the mark in selling it as a “Next-Gen” experience. It literally looks like what we would expect from the oft rumored Switch Pro. It kinda feels like Nintendo had the Switch Pro in the pipeline and decided to migrate the design to Switch 2.

Not only is there potentially 2 mouse, but both have 4 face buttons, the two shoulder buttons and a thumbstick available for new control options.

I think people are seeing this as tame because they’re viewing it from the perspective of Nintendo’s home console history. Their handheld history has always been more iterative: the original Game & Watch -> Gameboy -> Gameboy Pocket -> Gameboy Color -> Gameboy Advance -> Gameboy Advance SP -> DS -> DS Lite -> DSi - 3DS -> 2DS -> 3DS XL -> New 3DS are all iterations.

game and watch to gameboy i would not call iterative. it´s gameboy -gameboy color. even if gameboy color was kind of borderline new console gameboy advanced the real sequel sp the same but backlit new gen ds to dsi. dsi similar to gameboy color. a bit more umph. but still about the same. and then the 3ds generation, which from what i know it´s 2ds that´s the biggest difference, with no clamshell design and no 3d. different generations with some mostly physical iterations. in there generation. the switch 2 is not really a iteration of the switch it is a new console that based on the leaks is several times more powerful, if the leaks is completely true that is. with a very similar design. But base on that it´s a similar hybrid. There is no real reason to change that much, but sure they could have made the control a bit more comfortable and such..
Also, after waiting 7 years, I finally got a Switch a month ago, and I fucking love it, so I'm only experiencing now what everyone else has experienced years ago, playing Breath of the Wild, and I am hooked, haven't touched my PS4 in 3 weeks at this point, and that's big for me, so where I will be keeping up with all Switch 2 news, for now i am happy with my Hyrule Edition Switch Lite and its all i need...
I wouldn’t totally discount a new Zelda game popping up soon. Tears of the Kingdom was a DLC ballooned into a full game. Since many assets were reused, large parts of the Zelda team could have been working on a new Zelda title, and as TOTK matured and reached refinement stages, even more resources could have shifted to the new title. Add in Nintendo’s tendency to sit on finished games, and it’s possible a new Zelda is further along in development than anyone thinks.
I hope there’s more color ways with the joy cons, because I like the fact that I can make my switch look how I want and not like everyone’s else

I honestly think with how the gaming market is now and how the wii u sold nintendo is definitely keeping it safe with the switch 2. And I honestly am happy the switch has been my favourite console and I'm not a huge nintendo guy.

All i knew is that it was coming and roughly when it was being announced.. so i was genuinely happy and excited with the new design and everything.. I understand alot of people in the know were disappointed in the actual reveal.

The mouse Joy-Con functionality is huge, and I wouldn't be disappointed if it's the "main gimmick." Imagine the possibilities for Mario Maker (and a possible return for Mario Paint), as well as DS/3DS games on Nintendo Switch Online. So excited to see more!
I was so happy they just called it the Switch 2.
I bought a Nintendo Switch on launch and I mainly played Smash Bros on it with friends. After that I've played maybe 3 games total on it and every time I travel I take it with me but don't play it.
All that being said, I still want the Switch 2. I don't own Mario Kart 8 but getting the new one on release sounds fun. If older Switch games get better performance I could definitely be persuaded to play some stuff I missed such as Xenoblade 3 or the XCX remake that I've never played the original of.
What if they just did this preview in reaction to it being leaked, so they have a bit of control of the release of whatever information is left.
With the proper event coming in April with games, quirks, UI etc.
My guest for what isn’t backwards compatible is probably going to be like Nintendo Labo, and things of that nature I feel like all the other games will probably transition over seamlessly other than those. Maybe even like let’s go switch because of the infrared sensors.

I use my switch a few times a year during the holidays when the family is over. I think what makes Nintendo for me is their inclusive party games and couch co-op.
The mouse feature seems cool and hopefully the system is more durable and fixed the joy con drift. Really for me , and i think for most people are the games. I need good ass games, and unfortunately the games im into are usally just on PC. If nothing seems interesting then im more than happy playing party games on my current switch few times a year.
I personally think before the April 2nd date we will know about the internals of the Switch 2
Such as the Battery (maybe not battery life tho), Screen type, type of sticks being used in the Joy Cons (& perhaps if they are even called Joy Cons), what chip is being used, what type of stroage is being used ect so then they have alot more time to show how everything works
So i think April 2nd will be showing/talking about Price, Launch date/pre order date, Everything that comes with the Switch 2, Battery life, Joy Con battery life, showing off the mouse function, Launch games (& maybe a small few other 2025 games)
& perhaps showing off the UI so they can then showoff what the mystery C button does however that can just be a random video dropped on YT where they show off/talk about the changes within the OS such as the UI, Eshop, Mii maker & any other new features such as messaging/voice chat, the Music App being integrated with the system (like it already should have been) ect

- Mario Kart (Launch title)
- Metroid Prime 4 (Launch title)
- A Life Sim/Sim game or Strategy game to show off the mouse function (Launch title)
- A game similar to 1-2-Switch, Nintendo Land, Face Raiders ect to show off all the functionalities of the Switch 2 & its controller (Launch title)
- A Zelda port/remaster/remake (Fall release)
- Yoshi game (Summer release)
- More sports in Switch Sports.. im begging you Nintendo give me Baseball & Boxing!! (Summer release)
& If i am to be true with all of that (obviously more third party & indie games will come out for Switch 2 in 2025) then i think thats a pretty solid year

While a mouse is the farthest from an innovative input method, it hasn't really been used in consoles as a main controller feature! Nintendo could also innovate the mouse by coupling it with motion sensing, so that it could take account of the orientation and velocity of the controllers at the same time as sense the position with the optical sensor. The fact that every single Switch 2 has the mouse function built-in should make it a much more used feature.

Regarding your comment about the mouse innovation, whilst that's true, looking at the teaser, it appears to require an add-on for the mouse. It pops out of some sort of add-on at the end of that bit, it's only visible for like half a second. But I'm wondering if every switch 2 will have it, or if it will require an additional add-on. Then again those could just be the wrist-band adapters.

I have been thinking this for a long time. That the new Switch 2 could also switch to VR mode. This could be the next big gaming step for Nintendo and all gamers.
Making it, a 3 in 1, they just need to make a pheripheral where you insert the console, and we already have the joycons for each hand for more inmerse gaming

Games that may not be backwards compatible are those that relied on the IR sensor. That sensor may not be on the switch 2
I have complaints to make about Nintendo's decisions as a company sometimes, but I'm perfectly happy with a "simple" Switch 2 reveal. I have a big backlog of Switch games and being able to actually enjoy them without worrying about bad framerates will be very nice. Same thoughts on the name - Switch 2 is very concise, and doesn't run the risk of confusing people like the Wii U did. When Nintendo and ESPECIALLY Xbox have had that problem in the past, Playstation's direct naming scheme starts seeming very appealing.
Honestly, I would be a little more excited had I not already bought an OLED when that came out. My brother, who has a base switch, was also pretty underwhelmed.

Nintendo was all about power until the GC failed. Now that they have a successful concept. Making it more powerful is all we need. Mouse control will be cool for FPS, RTS, Adventure games, mario maker type games and menu stuff.

I think they decided to just keep going with what works. They also knew they couldn't get crazy with the name like no Super Switch, they had to be clear that it was a new console so just adding a 2 was the way to go. I think it will have some kind of "thing" which is probably the mouse feature but i don't see it being super useful as most people don't have solid surfaces sitting on a couch or in bed but we'll see. The button is probably a share button if i had to guess.
My questions are mainly about the screen itself and also how is the output in docked mode. I'm sure they're using something similar to Hall sensors to fix stuck drift. I'm also really excited to see what the switch lite 2 will be like as I never docked our Switch much. Overall I likey.

I'm still not ruling out them doing the Virtual Boy 2, with a headset that plugs in with a cord to the top of the docked switch 2. There is an AR patent that uses the mouse sensor on the joycons so it's not a stretch. Regardless, I think I'll be happy with it. But they definitely didn't do enough with the reveal

I feel the chip/connection point will definitely break over time especially if you aren't careful with the system. My bigger issue though is the kickstand looks extremely flimsy even in the trailer at the max angle displayed it looks like it was about to snap so I'm concerned with that as well. I'm also hoping they've fixed joy con drift but I highly doubt it

I've noticed myself going back to my switch more and more this past year. My hope is that with rumored more third party support this time around Nintendo forces these shmucks to bring back legitimate split screen! The switch made everyone realize just how great that experience still is in modern gaming, it's time for Activision/EA/Ubisoft to bring it back.
I think the biggest question is why. Just because the switch worked doesn’t mean do the same thing over. Otherwise there would have been a GameCube 2 or N64 2 or something else that’s a sequel.
The new joycons don't seem to have an IR sensor, which like less than 10 games used anyways.
I am seeing a decent amount of people complaining about how underwhelming it is and I'm a bit curious what would have met these peoples expectations. Don't get me wrong I get it. Nintendo has been known for their big gimmicks on their consoles in recent years e.g.(Wii, Wii U, Switch). All of them changed a lot since the previous generation. But what MAJOR thing could Nintendo change without them compromising the core of the Switch? Personally, I am very happy about the mouse feature and I think people are just sort of forgetting about it because it wasn't very visible in the trailer. In my opinion that mouse feature has the most potential out of any other smaller gimmick Nintendo has done e.g.(3d screen on 3ds, HD rumble joy cons). Of course a year into the consoles life the mouse might just stop being supported in games like lots of other gimmicks Nintendo has had but like other people have mentioned having an in-built mouse on the switch 2 is very nice. It could just make navigating the menus a bit nicer, significantly increase the feeling of games like Metroid Prime 4 with proper mouse controls, Games with denser menus or when there is just lots of things crowded together that would be impractical to scroll through with a joy stick. From the leaks and the trailer is seems like to me that the switch 2 is everything it needed to be. Just a substantial improve on the amazing foundation of the switch.
If you were one of the people who was underwhelmed with the Switch 2 I would be very interested if you could comment why and specifically what would have made you more interested.
I think the things that aren't backward compatible will be things like Ring Fit Adventure where the old joy con needed to attach to the rng. I don't know of much else like that, but that's an example.
If this launches with a remaster kind, or just a port, of chrono trigger and chrono cross, I would def be a day 1 buyer.
Im honestly surprised that so many people think the joycons sliding was a feature. I feel like watching controllers slide and fly around is just standard console trailer stuff. I really dont think thats a festure and was just a trailer thing.

I think the whole issue is Nintendo missed the mark in selling it as a “Next-Gen” experience. It literally looks like what we would expect from the oft rumored Switch Pro. It kinda feels like Nintendo had the Switch Pro in the pipeline and decided to migrate the design to Switch 2.
